PREMiERdrum
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today it has opened a formal investigation into the safety of the Tesla Model S electric car following three battery fires. The agency said its safety investigation was prompted by recent incidents in Washington State and Tennessee that resulted in fires after cars both ran over debris on the road that pierced the battery compartment, resulting in fires. About two hours before NHTSA's announcement, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that he taking three steps as a result of the fires, but added that he stands behind their safety. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/11/19/elon-musk-tesla-fire-changes/3637187/ Edited November 19, 2013 by PREMiERdrum
RangerM
If you run over an object with a traditional IC car, I'd think it could start a fire, too. I'm no Tesla defender, but this seems like a tempest in a teapot.
akirby
If you run over an object with a traditional IC car, I'd think it could start a fire, too. It could but not 3 in such a short time on such a small number of vehicles. This would be investigated on any vehicle under such circumstances. RichardJensen
Welcome to the big leagues, Elon. Have fun trying to reconcile these comments: "there’s definitely not going to be a recall" with your plan to change these vehicles.
