Escapism
What engine do you have? Do you have the power Pano roof?? Please see TSB below. It says 2 weeks or longer, but the sub-zero temps could shorten that time frame. TSB 13-03-04 – 2013 Escape – Discharged Battery – Vehicle Not Driven For Two Weeks Or Longer Some 2013 Escape vehicles built on 8/28/2012 and through 12/5/2012 and equipped with a roof opening panel may exhibit a discharged battery condition only after the vehicle has not been driven for two weeks or longer. Follow the service procedure steps in this TSB to correct the condition by replacing the roof opening panel motor shade and roof opening panel motor sliding front panel. Refer to the workshop manual, section 501-17.
SENOJ
thanks for the reply on reflection I noticed back in the summer & fall that if I put the accessories on like the radio for more than 10 mins the battery protection would kick in & shut down the car so maybe this was coming for a while spoke to my dealer service guy this morning & told him about the t,s,b, but he wasn't too supportive of that,& he said that they have had lots of probs after this cold snap as if its all perfectly normal. asked if frozen would it power the lights etc & he said yes, advised me to start car once a week !!!!,not seen this in any adverts though !!!! bad side is it looks like I will have to fight fords for a new battery or pay $150.00 for a new one. disappointed to say the least that it will not start plugged in the block heater 2 hours ago so that mite help waiting for roadside to come out

akirby
You killed the battery. Jump it and either run it for 15 minutes at least once a week or get a trickle charger.
SENOJ
flat battery after all,it was down to 9 volts so alls well going to go for a spin in the snow going to turn it over more often in the cold never had this prob before but wise to it now Edited January 9, 2014 by SENOJ
rscalzo
With these record cold temps, I'd suggest buying a Deltran Battery Tender. If the car sits, simply leave it plugged in. It will maintain but no charge a battery. http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0156-Charger-Model/dp/B000NCOKQK/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1389279457&sr=8-9&keywords=battery+tender All my batteries use them. Motorcycle, tractor. Simply starting it once in a while does more harm than good. It caused condensation inside mechanical components that isn't burnt off unless the motor runs long enough. It wates gas and draws more from the battery than it returnsd.
Escapism
All good comments and suggestions. I find it a little odd that the dealer dismisses the TSB so readily, unless your vehicle build date doess not fall within affected vehicles. theoldwizard
My 2007 Milan V6 just sat through 3 days and nights of sub 0F weather. Started right up. Yes, it is the original battery.
rscalzo
That year doesn't have the roof indicated in the TSB. Odd that a moonroof would cause battery draw when not being operated. In the OP, it sat for ten days.

In the OP, it sat for ten days. Yes, but it has been 20 years since it's been this cold so I thought it might be a factor. And the OP says its a 2013. Mine is a 2013 and it falls within that range. You don't go by the year, you go by the build date. Last time I checked many 2013s were built within the affected dates. But here is the TSB anyway. rscalzo
I was refering to the 2007 Milan. Ten days at subfreezing weather could kill a marginal battery. Add to that the current draw of all the newer elctronics and it's easy to see the problem. I still never thought a sun/moon roof would have a current draw when not being used. Yeah, same goes for me.
rscalzo
Seems today's sun/moon roofs are a far cry from the somewhat simplier crank roof my wife had in her 1973 Pinto.
