one of a kind
Think of it as entry level seniority. keep your company seniority but your plant seniority has changed
trailfndr
In other words...IF openings come up in Livonia, and high seniority transfers in, they get SCREWED when it comes to job bids and such. Something no other plant does, and was Stopped in the past the IUAW Edited April 9, 2015 by trailfndr
nmsford
Oh ok. People always talk about plant seniority but I've never seen it enforced. Anytime someone would transfer to my plant their company seniority was all that mattered.
madime39
The only place I've seen it was at Saline, never at an "true" Ford plant though.
nmsford
I've heard committee men and other local union guys talk about it many times but never once seen it enforced.

nmsford
How are you going to tell a guy with 20 years that someone with 1 year can get a job posting etc etc over them?? A lot of times when people go to different plants it's not their choice. They were laid off from their plant and placed there. Then when they get in a new plant they're told they have zero seniority??? Would never happen
one of a kind
Look at your national agreement vol.1 see what it says. No one is getting "forced" anywhere we always have options all we're saying is you choose Livonia you Come in with December 1st 2000 if not go to another plant. once again it's a choice

What kind of choice is it when your options are getting laid off, having to move out of state of Livonia??? The vast majority of the time when people transfer to other plants it's because they're out of options.
MTP'er
This isn't decided on a local level. The local has no say in this. 1984 is the leveling year. Your chairman is blowing smoke and your inhaling. Won't happen Edited April 10, 2015 by MTP'er
one of a kind
84 is leveling. And national contact gives your local the right we are just choosing to use the rights given to us by that contract
trailfndr
Interesting that Livonian wants to do this NOW... Most everyone knows they are going to be adding jobs at some point in the next few years and people will be wanting to transfer into the plant. Yet if you ask the people that Livonia forced to go to other plants several years ago, they all carried their full seniority with them And yes, Saline did something similar to this, BUT, that was not for transfers, that was only for those LOANED to the plant on a temporary basis. 25yrs
This has happened at the Big Three in Canada for yrs. If you are given an option to go to another plant in another city for "preferential" hire your seniority in the plant begins when you arrive. You hold your original seniority date for pension, benefits and vacation but, drop to the bottom of the pile when you arrive in your NEW plant. It's been like that since the 80's or longer.

So if preferential placement is handled that way, how is it handled if people are transferred without being given an "option"? Preferential placement is considerably different than, say, when a plant closes and you're not given an option on which plant to transfer to. Just curious... 25yrs
You can bid between plants in Windsor. There is also an assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario. Some laid off members from Windsor are working in Oakville. They cannot be transferred there. There had to be openings available for them to go as preferential hires. Their in-plant seniority begins when they start.
MTP'er
You know what go ahead and start this sh*t 182 and see what happens with all the other locals . God forbid you at local 182 ever have to go to another plant cause it ain't going to be pretty.
jose
I'm sure all that transfer will just vote out existing officals. Be careful what you wish for you just might get it.
one of a kind
That might be true, but all the people that are all ready there will not. All they are doing is implementing what the national contact says ALL LOCALS are in titled to.

25yrs
You can go to another plant in another city/state and carry your seniority to bump??? Incredible. I've been in automotive for almost 40 yrs and we have never had that here. Nice work if you can get it.
