Clouds of blue smoke when I start my Fusion in the morning.

2004 model 1,4 diesel. Recently bought with 130000 miles on the clock. Went very well until one morning when clouds of blue smoke from the exhaust. Eventually started, with knocking sound. After a while it warmed up and behaved far better. No smoke when it's warm. Garage says it's fuel injectors. A small fortune to repair. Is that a correct diagnosis? Any advice?

Is there a check engine light on? A stuck open injector will do everything that you say it is doing, as will low high pressure fuel pressure. Hard start, lots of smoke, knock. I am unfamiliar with the 1.4 itself, but here in the states I'd make sure that the FRP sensor is not biased and that the HPFP is making enough pressure, but there is a real possibility that the fuel system has been compromised.

Injector seals, seems to be a common repair on the 1.4 TDCi.
