PIU, Armored doors

Recommended Posts

It's concerning to hear that some criminals are resorting to armor piercing rounds,

hopefully this upgrade to ballistic panels adds the needed protection for LEOs.

Meh; most modern rifle rounds can penetrate light armor (most body armor is only rated against handgun caliber fire), so I wouldn't read all that much into it, perpetually-breathless, hopelessly-shocked newsreaders notwithstanding.

Good on Ford for doing it, though.

Most officers wear soft body armor rated at IIIa or lower, which stops up to .44 caliber rounds. You need to add ceramic plates to stop the rifle caliber rounds, which adds a lot of bulk and weight to your body armor package, and isn't conducive for daily wear. These ballistic panels will be a very nice addition for any Cruiser for officer protection. Particularly in a felony car stop situation, where the vehicle is used for part of the tactical approach.
