Elon Musk Publishes List of Hospitals Tesla Sent 'Ventilators' to after Claims None Were Delivered to California

I put this here because Tesla is a Ford competitor and right now our business is ventilatos, but feel-free to move this mods if you feel it's too off-topic.

The TLDR is that CNN reported without fact-checking a claim by California Gov. Newsom that none of Telsas ventilators reached California hospitals, and then when Elon posted the receipts CNN tried to argue over the definition of a ventilator, rather than admit they were wrong and correct the story.  The hospitals got exactly what they requested from Tesla, and instead of reporting a  feel-good story, CNN went with the quick easy fake-news hit-piece.

Elon Musk Publishes List of Hospitals Tesla Sent 'Ventilators' to after Claims None Were Delivered to California

By Jason Murdock On 4/17/20 at 6:31 AM EDT

Elon Musk has responded to criticism of his company's ventilator deliveries and published what he says is a partial list of hospitals that were sent the life-saving units.

The Tesla CEO said Thursday that the string of recipients provided the "exact specifications of each unit" before shipments and said deliveries were "based on direct requests from their ICU wards," and he addressed media reports that relayed a statement saying no ventilators had arrived in California.

Musk said last month more than 1,255 FDA-approved ventilators were bought from China and sent to California, an effort described as "heroic" by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

But it later emerged that the devices being sent to facilities were mainly "non-invasive" and could not be used to treat severe COVID-19 cases without being modified. A tussle over the definition of ventilator continued this week after state officials claimed that none had been sent from Tesla.

No surprise here that CNN didn’t fact check.

Ah, but they did:

CNN contacted 10 California hospitals identified by Musk in the partial list of recipients he posted on Thursday. Of the four hospitals that responded, all said they had received bilevel positive airway pressure (biPAP) or continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines — devices that can aid breathing and be used for sleep apnea. None had received ventilators.

Musk's donation of medical devices to California hospitals mirrors his gift to New York hospitals. In that case, too, he sent biPAPs instead of ventilators, as first reported in the Financial Times.
CPAP machines typically start around $500, while biPAP machines can be had for about $1,200. Ventilators, however, range in price from $20,000-$50,000.

If you have to print Tesla logos and tape them to boxes for their photos, then it is just a publicity stunt.  There is no reason to tape your logos on the boxes and snap pictures with medical staff.

Or maybe they were just thanking him for procuring them? Those signs look staged by the medical staff, like a typical "thank you" type twitter post. If you've ever been on the internet before, you'd know this type of thing is suuuuper common; Just look at the Coors-light lady:
