Or maybe it’s driving Ferraris and Porsches around tracks while being videoed that does it…

It’s still lower than the step in the bumper, and it’s easier to step on it sideways (closer to parallel with the tailgate), as it’s farther away from the tailgate. That would solve all the issues though. I’d say it’s a combination of both. There’s no comparison between the loads a station wagon’s tailgate sees and what a truck’s tailgate sees, and the spare tire is already taking up that space under the rear of the bed. It’s not like there’s anywhere else to put the spare without taking up cargo space.
Shftn6
Wonder if this will be on super duty as well?
Watson138
Certainly looks like an interesting design.

Rockkicker
seems like a quick answer to other companies tailgate options. I say go all in with features once the tailgate is open, ie step ups, tool/utility areas etc could be cool
ibewlineman13
Seen a similar concept on some of the new half ton rams. Looked clean and a lot easier to get something out of the bed than having to lean over a tailgate to grab stuff. My only concern is how structurally sound it would be folded down with weight on it. RayLan
Maybe its just me. I don't see a practical benefit here.
