BlueCruise Software Updates

Recommended Posts

I know this has been brought up in the past but is worthy of more discussion. The fact that Ford / Lincoln does not update the BlueCruise software on existing vehicles is 100% the reason that my $67K 2023 Corsair GT will be the last Ford or Lincoln vehicle that I will EVER own. Now that Ford has announced BC version 1.5, it makes me more upset that I don't even have version 1.4. The fact that Ford is continuing to develop updates to the BC software, but withholding it from the existing customer base that paid top dollar for the feature is just ridiculous. I feel bad for the F-150 owners who are still on version 1.0. BlueCruise version 1.2 is good, but definitely could use improvement. My wife does not like when I use BlueCruise with her as a passenger because of issues that are likely fixed in newer versions of the software. I keep telling her that this is just the initial version rolled out with this vehicle, and it should continue to improve. Now after almost a year on version 1.2, I believe that I'll be permanently stuck on this older version due to Ford's lack of ability to roll out software updates. Would Ford be willing to pay big bucks every year for a Microsoft Windows software subscription, but be stuck on Windows 98??? I highly doubt it, but that's essentially what they are expecting of us. Ford / Lincoln should be offering owners with BlueCruise the ability to bring their vehicles into the dealership to have the BC software updated, as opposed to waiting to figure out how to perform the OTA update (I can only assume that is the issue). It would be a good customer satisfaction stopgap measure. Just as soon as GM offers a hybrid, midsize SUV with Super Cruise, I'll be jumping ship and never looking back. Not only is the GM Super Cruise vehicle software getting updates, but they keep adding more roads that it works on. GM's Super Cruise now works on 1 million miles of interstate, while Ford's BlueCruise is still stuck at 200K miles. I can’t believe that Ford execs expect people to buy the new Mach-E (the only vehicle they’re updating) in order to get the latest BlueCruise version. THAT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!! Nor will I pay any BC subscription fee to run older software. I'm extremely frustrated by Ford's approach, and will be dumping the vehicle by the time my current subscription ends.

I’d be willing to bet that the newer versions require updated hardware which is why it isn’t available.

Yeah, that's possible.  It would be helpful to indicate that somewhere to set owner expectations.

Quickly browsing other forums it appears that Ford has had some issues with OTA updates not going well.  It is also very typical of Ford to concentrate on new models and let the older ones hang in the wind.  The kicker comes if you are paying for the service and they never update the software, why would you continue to pay.  The failure to deliver updates could also be a failure to perform under the advertised terms which would be rectified with a class action suit.  Ever since my 2012 Explorer, Ford has never failed to disappoint me with the utter incompetence when it comes to updating software.  Seems that no matter the platform (MS or Google) they still can't figure out how to keep things updated.

I agree 100%.  I heard rumblings of a class action lawsuit.  I'd happily participate.

I dunno about that-I've had zero issues with my 2022 Bronco getting OTA updates-there's been about 4-5 of them in the past 2 1/2 years i've had it.
