Total September sales were 189,863, down 21 percent compared with a year ago. Sales to daily rental companies were down 62 percent and sales to individual retail customers were down 15 percent. Ford, Lincoln and Mercurys all-new and redesigned crossover utility sales were up 96 percent in September and up 52 percent year-to-date the largest increase of any major manufacturer. We continue to be encouraged by customers strong response to our new products, which were launching with high quality, said Mark Fields, president, The Americas. Demand for our new crossovers continues to grow and contributes to our efforts to stabilize U.S. retail market share. In September, Ford Edge sales were 11,632 and Lincoln MKX sales were 3,805. Both new crossovers achieved their highest retail sales month to date. The Edge and Lincoln MKX were introduced in December 2006 and already are among the best sellers in the mid-size and premium CUV segments. Sales for the redesigned 2008 model Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner crossovers were higher in September. Escape sales were 11,132, up 10 percent, and Mariner sales were 2,699, up 4 percent. The Lincoln brand posted its 12 th month in a row of higher retail sales. In September, total Lincoln sales were up 33 percent (retail up 40 percent). Year-to-date, total Lincoln sales were up 15 percent (retail up 17 percent). Lincolns rebound reflects the new Lincoln MKX crossover, the new Lincoln MKZ sedan (up 25 percent in September) and the redesigned Navigator (up 38 percent in September). Were building a strong foundation for future growth at Lincoln, said Fields. This is the early phase of an aggressive plan to restore Lincoln as Americas choice for luxury vehicles. Land Rovers September sales were 4,190, up 21 percent, reflecting the addition of the all-new LR2 crossover. Land Rover sales were up 8 percent year-to-date. Sherminator98
Mustang, Focus, F-150 and Explorer all had huge hits in sales. The Taurus is still stuck in low drive, but the Taurus X seems to be doing pretty well. The Edge and MKX/Escape and Mariner are bright spots. the Ranger had nearly 43% less sales then last year! ugh... Anyways, good news is that the Focus has an all new model coming out this month...and we have a new F-150 coming in the next year or so. Other then that I'm not sure

igor
Focus had limited inventory this month - 07 production ended in august, and the 08's are not on the lot yet. the Ford brand car decline looks awful, but off the 33k unit decline, 22k was from Taurus alone - Mutang lost 4k, Focus lost 4k and FiveHundred/New Taurus lost 3k units. Ford Jellymoulds
Come on Lincoln don't be so harsh, T-Stag will be very impressed by those XK sales, all of those 218 sales are going to repay Ford handsomely, for the 12.7 billion Ford invested, at last Ford reaping rewards from Jaguar. Igor ^Good points. It's nice to see Ford aligning production correctly these days. -I'm glad the friggin Fusion sold over 10K units this month. At the rate the nameplate's sales are heading, we might see a decline in Fusion sales this year. -The MKZ, which never gets love, sure is moving at a solid pace -How many Tauruses do they make in Chicago, two an hour? I seldom see them on dealer lots, and when I do it's usually 2 or 3. -Jaguar as a brand needs cut, ASAP. Its almost as if it is the niche brand that shouldn't be. Dump it........ igor
Edge outsold Escape and both were breathing down the neck of the Fusion .... I am sure Ford would love to have 4 11k/month models: Focus, Fusion, Escape, Edge .. maybe 6: add Taurus and Flex ... That would be decent lineup. I wonder how much CR-V sold this month. This makes sense why? because Mercury as positioned today does not make sense, and restricts the upscale features available on Ford - the only eason Mercury exists is to give Lincoln dealers volume .. with Lincoln inching towards 200k units a year, the dealers will not need Mercury anymore .. and Ford can build the Mercury-level cars - as it should. Unless Ford comes out with some NEW comprehensive strategy for Mercury, Mercury is dead. Igor

focus05
The Fusion had a good sales month out here in the West (which is rare for any Ford vehicle save the F-series), so I figured the numbers would come in at a respectable level. Ford needs to really start advertising. I mean serious advertising. Let's get people to the dealers' lots. I expect October will be down about 10-12% and November to be flat (maybe up, wishfully) and December to be down slightly. However, if Ford rides some good product at SEMA, LA, NAIAS coupled with good advertising of its Focus, Taurus and Sync, we can get the word out and get people into the showrooms. Furious1Auto
Why does everyone keep forgetting that Ford has been intentionally reducing it's capacity, If you aren't building as many than you can't sell as many! What we need to watch is their profitability!
