That's not true, Blu-Ray isn't "FAR" superior, HD-DVD was a lot cheaper, both the players and the discs. a dual layer HD-DVD can have 30GB, that's enough for a 1080i movie. At the time they both made their debut 1080i TVs were mainstream and 1080p TVs were quite rare and very few people bought them. Not to mention HDMI cost a leg and an arm (still does.). Sony also shunned the prono again, but I suppose with the internet it didn't help Toshiba that much.
Sony's victory sole reason was support. HD-DVD sadly lacked that. I was really looking forward Sony's chapter 11.
