I was thinking, with people running to buy a small car and people plopping down 30K+ for mini's could Ford do a Lincoln version of the Fiesta? No big engines but something that got 40mpg. Have a high quality fit and finish and it would come standard with things like leather, hid, front+side+curtain airbags, advancetrac, 10 way power seats, sync etc... It seems that this type of car may now be possible if high gas prices are to stay.

I vote Chevy, Caddy and Saturn. Either sell Snaab or kill it from the US. Buick can die in the US, don't they make all Chinese Buicks in China anyways, perhaps they can export some to Europe, LOL. Of course to do a big restructuring like this Chp 11 will be declared so they can stick it to the unions, dealers and stock holders.

Well if OPEC wants to crash the world economy, they are well on there way. Does not seem likely that the majority of people who have to drive will be able to sustain it for long. Europe's gas prices when converted to $/gal range anywhere form $6-10+! Granted our dollar is weak so it makes anything $$$ but there truckers are already crying foul so we shall see.

Umm so while I get that even if only half the story is true it is pretty damming. But why do these people continue to work there? Why would you not quite and go work for mazda, honda, isuzu, suzuki, subaru etc... OR better yet goto college and become an accountant for a bank. However if you know anything about Japanese society the pressure to preform is immense and suicide is the honorable thing to do when you fail. There is going to have to be a cultural shift in order to change things.

I beleive in the NW its for the F-series not just f-150. Wasn't paying full attention.

Fords penny pinching is starting to really show, I have a friend who bought a used 02' explorer and he is lucky he is a truck mechanic (as in 18 wheel truck) and can work on his own stuff cause its had nothing but problems.

I would have to agree, it was a nice design and competitive at the time, it was the engine/tranny issues with a lack of Ford acknowledgment of the problem that bombed it and future sales. Who cares how "great" the freestar may have been when many people had super negative experiences with its predecessor . I remember reading far to many "its only got 37K miles and needs a new engine" complaints and Ford wrote them off as the exception not the rule they were to become.
