  1. I wouldn't give TTAC that much credibility, it's just Farago's distorted and leery perception. Any jerk with a computer can trowel off rubbish and post it on a website, doesn't make it true.
  2. Creditors with about 54% of GM's bonds agreed to swap GM debt for a 25% stake in the new GM Bondholders who rejected the deal could tough it out in bankruptcy court, but could lose everything. Now that GM is in Chapter 11, no more deals will be done.
  3. Some of your assigned RWDs now sound like becoming FWD/AWDs so maybe we'll have a clearer picture when Ford NA finalizes its FWD/AWD platform for D and E cars. Mustang, Falcon and Territory will continue in their respective home markets but whether a RWD Lincoln or Ford Sedan is really needed for North America is debatable.
  4. You really need a better crystal ball that doesn't echo other people's propaganda. 1) Not a chance, even Toyota has a UAW plant. 2) Ford won't be filing CH 11 any time soon, not with around $20 billion cash on hand. 3) Possible if Ford feels disadvantaged by GM deal. 4) The 4 brand GM is alreadyat 50% of GM's 2008 sales
  5. Ford continuing to prove that taking control of one's own destiny is much better in the long run. GM still has to get people interested in buying their rather ordinary products.
  6. Ford can do something GM can't, convince people to willingly convert debt into stock. How about more debt for stock swaps, reducing Ford's remaining debt even further? I can't see why not.
  7. That's right GM kept a stake in Opel, the corpse on legs.
  8. I really like how GM thinks it can out pace Ford's restructuring achieving the same goals inside 18 months, they haven't said so but reading between the lines that's the objective. I can see Fritz Henderson checking off his list: 1) Cut four brands and reducing sales by 18% - Check 2) Use Chapter 11 to jettison all that nasty debt - Check 2) Reduce production capacity - Check 3) Keep same morons in charge that got us in this mess - Check 4) Keep same crappy products that got us in this mess - Check Can anyone see flaws in this viability plan?
  9. What is your reference for determining a flop, numbers based on a thriving economy or today's mess? Everything is a flop this year.
  10. Increasing Lincoln sales = more profit to Ford, come to Papa. Even though people say it's hard to make a profit at 9 to 10 million annual sales, If Ford can get the product mix aimed at the mid and upper level models they'll do OK.
  11. Impressive, who said Lincoln couldn't compete with Cadillac. The CD3 triplets must have combined sales of around 25,000 this month
  12. Camaro: 5,463 Hmm, I thought they had like 15,000 pre orders on those things. Maybe the Pontiac G8 is more appealing to customers in terms of room and price wise.....
  13. Real world fuel economy doesn't matter as much as official CAFE numbers. This is all to do with Ford's meeting tougher CAFE and less to do with consumer fuel savings.
  14. Where does it say the government is writing of any money loaned to GM? They're not, other investors are falling on their swords, not the government.
  15. Bankruptcy is not punishment, it's an effective way to rid creditors - if you're smart. What did bankruptcy cost GM Vs The Government, Bondholders, Suppliers, Stockholders and employees? Answer: practically nothing, the new GM is sanitized, a reduced work force and retained brands account for 85% of the old GM's sales.
  16. I hope Chrysler has plenty of lubricant, it looks like Daimler all over again.......
  17. And that's what people aren't getting here, the government isn't giving the money away, they want all of it back plus interest..... That's why the banks are so keen to give those TARP billions back, the government is hitting them with interest, shock/horror.
  18. Either Mercedes Benz or VW are running a compression ignition phase on a S/C and Turboed engine - Golf springs to mind?
  19. This is more about protecting the suppliers and employee communities from an uncontrolled market exit by GM. It may not seem like it but a CH 11 GM is much better than complete collapse and liquidation, that would devestate whole communities.
  20. Throw in the helmet factor of numerous legal teams and it should be an unending nightmare played out on people's TV. I could be the next reality TV Hit on Fox. PG over on Disney: Harry (Obama) and the (Fritz) Hendersons?
  21. Sorry, that was a short hand answer I gave Wizzard. Ford as DIP are protecting a strategic supplier and they may have no intention of owning them at all. The deal could be Financing the restructuring and no more.
  22. Keep going, $19.4 billion before bankruptcy, $5 Billion operating costs in June, $30 billion Debtor in Possession Finance, $25 Billion New GM cash Float and $10 Billion Revolving Line of Credit. Almost $85 billion by my count....
  23. Debtor in possession financing means Ford finances Visteon on the purchase ofthe good assets in CH 11, all the debts and worthless assets get left behind in CH 11 court and the new Visteon emerges and is owned by Ford.
  24. Would anyone consider Fiat and Chrysler a same sex wedding or just a shotgun wedding?
  25. Definitely staggered over a couple of years, Gladstone learned it lesson two boom cycles ago. slight lull at the moment due to recession worries but we should pick up again by September.
