  1. Well you are misinformed because nowhere does the legislation say combined city highway mileage. The combined mileage is merely the combination of truck highway mileage and Car highway mileage.
  2. I thought Beretta was the two door and Corsica was the four door? I know because I hired one in 1993 when I was over in the States....
  3. Wow, imagine if GM had done all this three years ago (like Ford). They'd most likely not be staring at bankruptcy now.....
  4. Well, the Equinox starts at $23,185 and the Escape at $20,400 - that buys a bit of gasoline... Pity they don't have a Hybrid like Escape for around $29,000, they'd get 34/31 mpg......
  5. How about a Fusion that's manufactured in Mexico? Not so black and white is it.
  6. Mulally put the GRWD platform on hold this time last year but Farley had this to say in January:
  7. Oh, thank goodness. I read the title and thought it was compulsory now.
  8. An unsustainable arguement since it can never be proved but look at it this way, combined sales inside 5 years adds up to near 1.2 million vehicles on two platforms. That's still impressive for mixed large sedan/CUV vehicles especially when retail and fleet are covered. I still beleive there,s enough sales and diversity in the market to justify GRWD and a large FWD/AWD platform. Different strokes for different folks, so let's hope Ford gaps the other two enough to try some niche products. For anyone wo cares, G8 suffered for being a Pontiac and lack of advertising, I doubt Ford would make the same mistake with the Falcon/Territory as they complement the Mustang perfectly and can all be built down the one line......
  9. Look, just put the Falcon's IRS and XR6 Turbo engine in the Mustang and watch the friggen Camaros wither and die.... The Camaro is an out of time overweight car, Ford has so much fire power at its disposal it's just embarrasing for GM....
  10. I was hoping you didn't see that slight problem :shades: Ask yourself why Ford didn't feel the need to do a 4 cylinder Edge and you'll see the Equinox dilema, I bet the bulk of them will be V6 sales. GM still has to convince people to buy it.....
  11. Individual vehicle types don't have to comply with the fuel averages but I'm getting the idea that product mix is increasingly important, maybe Ford needs the EB engines in Trucks and CUVs to seal the deal......
  12. Since it's much lighter, the 3.5 EB Mustang would have the same or better shove off the mark than something like the 6.2 Boss and with 375 hp it would have more top end than the V8 Camaro. 3800 lb Falcon XR6 Turbo makes 360hp/391 lb ft and does a 13.2 quarter mine, an EB Mustang would be EB right there or maybe even in the 12s.
  13. In the last three years, the UAW has bent over backwards to make tough deals happen. I think it is fairer to judge Ford Motor and the Union on their recent cooperative behavior, both have achieved the most important thing - the survival of Ford and its products. I just wish people would get off the Union bashing thing, it's counter productive and not indicative of the spirit at Ford motor.
  14. Sure, a lot of that volume is for the Japanese market but an up turn in the US economy later this year will possibly signal an increase in all hybrid sales.
  15. Do a little research and you'll find that: 1) Chevy's 2.4 GDI has very similar power and torque figures to Ford's PFI 2.5. 2) An Ecoboost 1.6 develops 180 hp/180 lb ft and beats both hands down for low end torque and fuel economy potential. I rest my case.
  16. Since their introduction in October 2004, now fewer than 689,745 D3 vehicles have been sold. Interestingly, in the exact same period, approximately 450,788 panthers have been sold I have no reason to believe that, Taurus, Flex, MKS lose money.
  17. This is what I've been trying to tell everyone for the past couple of weeks. The F150 actually gets EPA 21mpg or CAFE 26 mpg now - it already complies with the truck limit.
  18. Since Toyota made gigantic loss last financial year due mostly to falling US sales, I don't see the problem with exporting LOSS. Don't forget that the bulk of Parts in Camrys come from parts suppliers in North America, that money and workers pay stays in the USA.
  19. VW I think already has it, Bosch owns the Ecoboost technology and probably already have it covered. The compression ignition cycle improves the idle low/part throttle efficiency of the engines, I can see this going into the Ecoboost engines as an off-boost engine cycle.
  20. Trust politicians to miss the concept of downsizing in Chapter 11, it's the only time GM and Chrysler could get away with such cut and thrust manouvres. I think the pollies are just realizing a huge voter backlash could be at the bottom of auto rationalizing especially if the government is up to their neck in it and public money is tied up in stock......
  21. Yes and no doubt it's something that Ecoboost will probably include as a cycle into in the next few years.
  22. Pity the Kiwis didn't have a national Ice Hockey team, imagine those big fearsome maoris getting stuck into other teams players and the HAKA on ice.....
  23. Feeling left out of the EU boys club are we? UK governments have lacked the understanding needed to foster a car industry and I think that Ford would have moved production back there if the governments were truly interested.
  24. Sounds like you present yourself as representing others in the UAW but what you say doesn't jibe with the the actions of the UAW who have agreed to countless concessions with Ford over the past couple of years. A quick internet search will prove that the Ford execs have a great working relationship with the UAW and I don't see how your inflammatory comments helps anyone's cause. I would suggest you and your "people" watch closely the horror story unfolding at GM and re evaluate your feelings towards Ford management.
