  1. Hey, Hey! Excellent news!!! Did Ford and the CAW just slam dunk GM and Chrysler?
  2. Kerkorian isn't the problem, I think Bears Stern is when they say investors should take short term gains now. I'm a bit concerned that a highly respectable company can say we need to view share price separately to the business revovery efforts of Ford. It seems a real disconnect to me. The way people go on shows their lack of knowledge of how Ford stocks eveoved, I found this on the Ford website:
  3. So what are Kerkorian's motives, if everyone knows he is in for pump and dump doesn't that ruin his plan? Also, why is it journalists think there is a hatred of Ford's B Stock? I can't find any reference to ill feeling by stockholders to the Ford family who actually refer most financial decisions to the board and guidance from CEO Mulally - as it should be.
  4. Perfect Karma: Ford cancels a certain Canadian car causing a plumit in Ford stock to $5.00/share. Now, where did I leave my alfoil hat..... (Joking by the way.)
  5. Usually, a Detroit recovery plan consists of holding on to market share and waiting for better times all while using incentives to prop up market share. Ford's strategies does none of this and is a genuine attempt to restructure and right size the company. They're shaving North American costs and seem to be making progress in the face of a full market slowdown. Around the world, Ford is doing great. Does anyone think Kerkorian likes Ford's business changes and increased his shares because of that?
  6. Isn't Kirk Kerkorian like 90 years old? His only long term commitment should be buying green bananas.
  7. The Thai Ranger has the two Duratorq engines 2.5 I-4 and 3.0 I-4
  8. Give it time, the same could have been said about Ford Europe 10 years ago. Europe and Asia are on an upswing, the US is in the doldrums but we can all see that Ford NA is makinghuge strices in right sizing the company for sales. A huge change for Ford by not adopting the traditional Detroit based strategy of increasing volume and incentives in the hope of trading out of debt. Market This is the same strategy used to reform Europe and South America with great success.
  9. Actually, The Korean car companies are the ones directly in the Chinese automakers sights. Kia, Hyundai and even Daewoo will all feel the pinch on their entry level cars and unless they go upmarket, the Chinese will eat them alive - not now but 2-3 years time.
  10. Meh, I said better than US 60 mpg because I did the math in my head. PS, and the full schedule for new Fiestas isn't out yet either, so the existing one proves the point of my original post which was proving most Fiestas exceed US 40 mpg.
  11. Information is available on Ford England's website, Link to ford.co.uk fiesta specifications The Euro extra urban cycle is different to EPA highway fuel economy test: - Most current Fiesta gets better than US 40 mpg, all better US 35 mpg. - The diesels get better than US 60 mpg
  12. Ejection seats? Love to see those babies punch out at impact!!!
  13. PSA (Peugeot Citroen) may be interested in Volvo down the track. Maybe Ford and PSA could expand the diesel alliance to include hybrid technology and offer a stake in Volvo.... Just a thought, not saying it will happen.
  14. Can you still hear the trolls screaming Ed?
  15. Ford is doing a brilliant job in North America stemming losses in tight times! I hope they can keep Special Items under control, they show up in Q4 and wreck the books.
  16. Upwards of $175,000 for blown 2008 Saleens converted to RHD in Australia.
  17. Yes, over $10 billion allocated to North American downsizing. 2007 results were also marred by $3.8 billion of special Items, most of which occurred in Q4.
  18. More the case of elimilating undesirable burocracy, duplication and lack of coordination and communication. Bill Ford brought Mulally in because people around him were either lying to him or just telling him what he wanted to hear. The old system were undone and provided they accepted Mulally's new corporate governance, people were welcome to stay. You will not see too much ink on it but when Mulally started, some of the "bureaucratic subordinates" were unhappy with the airplane man's ideas and they tried to go over his head to Bill Ford. Those people are now no longer with Ford. BTW, A lot of credit for JLR's turnaround should go to the four year reign of J/LR CEO Aussie Geoff Polites. Geoff fought a battle with bowell cancer for two years working hard on the TATA sale. Geoff returned to Australia for the birth of his first grand child which sadly he missed by days, passing away last Sunday. He will be missed by all at Ford Australia.
  19. Can anyone doubt that Ford is going great guns improving their position in really tough times. If survival means "Ford" has to be just Ford and Lincoln with no other brands, so be it.
  20. Hmm, what does that say about a proposed GRWD Strategy? I suppose three years of solid export sales would justify the relatively cheap outlay on an existing car especially when it uses quite a few parts in common with Ford North America anyway. Maybe Falcon could then move to a GRWD in 2013.
  21. We'll never know......we switch to US engines in2010, but the Pontiac G8 Does OK.
  22. The turbo 6 kills the 5.4 4V on bottom end torque, I suspect Ecoboost 35 will do the same to the 4.6 3V and the 4.4 Diesel will replace a lot of 5.4 3Vs in the F150 for the same reason.
  23. A 5.0 V8 and an Ecoboost V6 - that covers a lot more of the market! Both will give way getter fuel economy than the bigger GM or Chrysler engines.
  24. So what do fans want, production racing or clones painted up to look like cars you buy? Production racing is fine but can lead to bitter paritydisputes particularly if one manufacturer dominates a series. The clones eliminate variables but give much higher speed threshold and make the driver/crew skills the only variables.
