  1. you might be confusing the issues. The Autopact died as a result of a WTO ruling. That and NAFTA effectively replaced it. Keep in mind that the Autopact wasn't intended to keep the Asians out. It was to bring more Detroit plants up North.
  2. hahahaha, yeah right. Know what solidarity means? It means EVERY brother walks off the job to keep Ford from letting anyone go. It means not just sitting there letting it happen because you know your plant is safe. Solidarity is not a pick-n-choose, optional program. You are a brother or not. If you are, stand up for your brothers.
  3. moving to Tucson? Do you really need 4x4? Do you plan on going offroad? If not save your money and go 4x2. The Ford auto 4x4 is seamless. Generally, you can't even feel it engage if you turn it on while moving. You would probably be happy with the 2006 F150. And definitely go for the 5.4. These trucks are very heavy and need that much more engine just to get moving.
  4. true enough. I think its safe to say that Dearborn is probably the only plant that is 100% guaranteed to not close. After that, its anyones guess.
  5. Edge and MKX are being built at Oakville.
  6. Ford won't close 3 Cdn plants. They need to maintain minimum employment levels to get government money. If they close all but Oakville, they would have to pay back a few hundred million to the govt. And the Mexico thing? There are 2 plants I am aware of, one makes the Fusion triplets for North America and another making F150s/Lobos for Central/South America. I cant see either being closed. Twin Cities I can see as I think Ford may move to that global Ranger made in Thailand.
  7. yeah, but the year is 2006, not 1967.
  8. this always amazes me. When Ford launched the truck, they defended its size by saying it would be for contractors, logging crews, miners, etc. But they never offered a work truck trim level.
  9. Ford is decontenting all of their models. Case in point I have a 2004 F150, XLT trim. It has far less luxury items than the 98 XLT I had before it. Little things like the interior lights in the footwells and on the doors. How about getting locks on glove boxes? Don't see that anymore. Floor mats are super thin and super cheap. The prices keep going up and the content keeps going down. At some point, even the most loyal Ford buyers will wake up and start to consider another brand,
  10. please don't say "no brainer". it implies that we have no brains if we disagree with you, which I do. Firstly, yeah the Stang is successful. But for how long? Now with the Challenger and Camaro coming just how many 2 door RWD sports cars can be sold? Mustang sales will probably go down with those new competitors and by adding a Cougar... you lower those sales even more. And you think it should be upscale? Just how upscale? For a luxury performer, I'd just as soon go for an M5.
  11. Ford did not give this money away. Your statement should read "Ford revenue lowered by $6B due to lowered selling prices"
  12. Ford of Canada is only 1 year younger than Ford of America. Ford of Canada is also responsible for creating many of the Ford divisions throughout the world.
  13. Pretty much. As the #2 in sales, #1 if you include Sierra, the public obviously thinks that it is sufficient for payload/towing.
  14. keep with the times? then why must it be 302 cu in? Sounds more like living in the past.
  15. sounds like a general strike
  16. they can change the name. but that car is sweet. I think they are going to sell quite a few.
  17. at least we know the cleaner is the bastard that keeps writing this rumor crap on bathroom wall. Or maybe its the hairdresser framing the cleaner.
  18. sorry Polar... I had to chuckle. That reminds me of a car joke I heard a long time ago. The punchline was along the lines of a Pontiac Firefly convertible with dual exhaust was a wheelbarrow.
  19. in vehicles without power seats, can we have a manual crank height adjustment. Just like the one in the Focus, but in all models. My wife is only 5' so she sits a little low in the F150. The adjustable pedals are great, but can we have it on the seat too? Thanks.
  20. a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who heard it from the hairdresser of Bill Fords wife
  21. fair point. I for 1 do like the choice still offered by Ford, GM and Dodge. I don't like being told that there are only 2 trim levels. Engine A with trim 1 and engine B with trim 2. Oh tyou want engine B? Well then you have to trade up. Maybe too much choice is a bad thing, but at the same time I do not appreciate Japanese one-size-fits-all option packages. Maybe there is a happy medium. I'm just not sure where that is. And yeah, it's got to be hell for the dealers trying to stock all the models.
  22. what are we discussing here ebritt? Pensions or Employees offering management advice? 2 different discussions. Or are you just so angry at what I said that you are looking for anything to fight over? Even if it detracts from the continuity of the conversation?
  23. choice is something the Ranger offers that the Japanese do not.
