  1. Be warned. Just looked in the 2007 Ford Trailer Towing Guide. https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/rv_trai...007_default.asp Holy crap! "Fusion is not recommended for towing". Look at the notes on page 20. Even a lowly Focus can tow 1,000 pounds. What the heck is up with that?
  2. If you checked the fuel cap to make sure its installed correctly and tight enough, and the light continues to stay on after you drive it 2-3 more times, I think a trip to the dealer is the only option. The computer has detected a air/vapor leak in the evaporative emissions system. Could be as simple as a bad fuel cap.
  3. Article was a nice summary. Made me remember what an incredible car this was, and how important is was to Fords future. Then neglected. I think the quote by Jack Telnack said it best, saying it was criminal how Ford let it die. Thanks to the guys/gals that built these cars over the years.
  4. From the 2006 Trailer Towing Guide (only one page here) https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/rv_trai...ckchrtJan06.pdf it appears the max trailer weight for a 2006 Taurus is 1,250 pounds.
  5. Sounds like the 99 Cobra syndome. I was really wondering how Lexus was getting 380HP from a 4.6 DOHC when the best Ford number to date is 320. Maybe its not making 380? Maybe C&D can't drive, thats been talked about here also. 8 speed automatic? I'd like to here that run through the gears at WOT. Anyway, there is a lot more tech in that Lexus motor than the last version of the 4.6 DOHC Ford. I'd like to see Ford do similar with an all aluminum 4.6. Sounds like it has variable valve timing with the intake and exhaust independently controlled, direct fuel injection, and possibly a variable geometry intake.
  6. Has anyone seen any detailed technical articles on this engine? I still would like to see a HO version in the Fusion. And regarding the last paragraph: I wonder what changes to the 4 cylinder Ford has in store. I guess I should also ask which 4 cylinder also, they have 2.0 and 2.3. Are these engines the same ones offered in Mazda. Looking at the specs, the Mazda 2.0 and 2.3 offer more HP.
  7. I agree. Don't worry, be happy. My 96 Cobra (Oklahoma car) had light rust on much of the structure under the dash. My 2002 Explorer (Minnesota car) has similar under dash and on seat frames. Just light stuff. Was there practically when new and doesn't appear to have gotten any worse.
  8. UPDATE -- http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../608020385/1148 About 3/4 down in this article, they mention the powertrain "tweak" that got the MPG boost. No details of what was done, but it does mention its available as a service fix to the 2006 Model. TSB or SSM maybe ?? Like someone else mentioned, I wonder what the change does to acceleration potential. We need a 2007 vs 2006 lineup for test and tune night. ---------------- "The engine had really been calibrated for emissions instead of fuel economy," said Nicholas Schubeck, supervisor of powertrain calibration for Ford. Ford also has released a service fix so mechanics can retune 2006 models to get similar performance increases.
  9. Lighter than a V6 Mustang? They are smokin' some bad weed. Did I read that wrong? This thing will still be 3600-3700 pounds. Pure swags on my part, but here goes ....... Mustang GT500 3950 pounds less blower hardware 100 pounds ? stripped interior 100 pounds ? lighter tires and wheels 50 pounds ? ----------------------------------------------------------- 3,700 pounds Now maybe they throw an aluminum 5.4 at it. I have even less of a clue what that would do. 50-100 pounds savings? That puts the package at 3,600 maybe. A new base Mustang GT is about 3500, and thats with an aluminum 4.6. What am I missing here?
  10. Wasn't the EPA changing the MPG test to make it more realistic? I thought I read that about a year ago. Anyway, it was predicted it was going to produce mostly worse numbers for larger vehicles like trucks SUV's. And slight chance of better numbers for small ones. I suppose you'd have to looked at more data for some other small cars to see if there is a trend.
  11. Nice lookin' ride firemanfrank. That lower front bumper looks alot like 99+ Cobra.
  12. There was a blurb in Autoweek a few weeks ago that Shelby was working with Ford on a high performance V6 that I believe was supercharged and was said to be over 300HP.
  13. The rear wheel bearings may be a little more common than they should be. Mine has a sound that I believe is a rear wheel bearing. Also it appears Ford has released a TSB (in September or October of last year) containing a revised repair procedure for the rear wheel bearings that only requires replacement of the bearing itself and not the entire bearing/hub assembly. At least thats what it sounds like.

    Sales?

Saw a titanium green and camel one in a Target parking lot in Minneapolis today. Actually parked nose to nose with my beater Jetta. I think it was an SE with a 4 cylinder maybe. Seemed like it had twin pipes on the right side. It was 10° so I didn't do a lot of looking but what I did see was nice. Much better looking in the rear quarters than I had gathered from photos. Nice size too. Oh now I see you can't get the V6 with a stick. Gee I hate that. SVT version maybe some day? 3.5L with a 5 or 6 speed. Kinda like a rebirth of the SVT Contour. My biggest question was how that chromed grill was going to look in a few years. I hate sand.
  15. Follow the link on that page to the ST model. 2.5L Volvo 5 cylinder and 6 speed manual. 0-60 in 6.5.
