  1. Have we stooped to a new low, that we must discuss someone's water breaking on a public forum? That is just more than we all care to think about right now. Can't you come up with something better than that, or are you really that desperate?
  2. Here's your pics: http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-R...d-first-photos/
  3. Back to the topic. Senator McCain has not given up on Michigan, but feels he stands a better chance of winning in other battleground states, so he plans to suspend his television ads in Michigan.
  4. It is my understanding Senator McCain has not given up on Michigan, but feels that he has a better chance of winning in some of the other battleground states. His campaign committee will still be working in Michigan, but will not be running television ads there.
  5. TStag, You say you can't vote, so why are you on here offering up your opinions and saying that you speak for the rest of the world? That sounds awfully presumptuous to me. I think you ought to know that we really don't care what the rest of the world thinks, because they don't live here and they need to quit listening to our liberal media. Why don't you take care of things in your country and keep your comments to yourself?
  6. As long as these people are allowed to remain in Washington it will continue to be business as usual.
  7. CSMJ, Don't know why you are replying to me, I never said anything about Ford $ or whether they paid taxes.
  8. Skilled1, Obviously you have never faced your own mortality or you would not be so concerned for John McCain. I would remind you that none of us are promised tomorrow....including Senator Obama. Maybe you will feel differently when you approach the age of 70. I'd like to think that with age comes experience. I know Joe Biden has said some things lately that make me question his thinking and he's no "spring chicken." I believe many Americans are feeling "fed up" right now, so don't think have the market cornered on that. It is time for us all to stand up and let our people in Washington know that we expect more of them. They need to listen to the people who elected them. We are the greatest nation in the world and we need to remember that.
  9. Here is the statement McCain read into the Senate record: John McCain, 25 May 2005, speaking to the Senate: Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal. The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac. The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform. For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay. I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole. I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

  11. My apologies. He accepted the nomination in 1992, took office in Jan. '93, signed NAFTA on Dec. 8, 1993, and it was enacted Jan 1, 1994, and the pen is still "proudly" on display at his Presidential Library.
  12. President Clinton signed the NAFTA agreement in 1992 and the pen he used to sign it into law is "proudly" on display in his Presidential Library. The agreement went into effect in 1994. I would assume he had the power to veto it, but chose not to.
  13. Yes, and isn't it interesting that Fannie and Freddie contributed $85,000 to the Obama campaign. :shades:
  14. Not sure what you mean, but I personally know a farmer that is in the top 20 receiving farm subsidies in my state and he is not a corporate farmer. I grew up on a family farm and my Dad never believed in farm subsidies and he was well-respected in the farming community. He also believed in putting his money back into the local community and in being a good steward of the land, which I have to say is rapidly falling by the wayside, what with all the huge "factory farms" coming into our state. I am very sad to see what's happening to the small family farmer. Unfortunately, it's all about the money, isn't it?
  15. Are you kidding? Maybe your family members aren't receiving huge subsidies, but I know there are many out there who are. If you don't believe me you can check it out at the following link: http://www.ewg.org/farm/index.php?key=nosign
