  1. This little spat won't end the ford/international relationship because they need each other, and they have BY FAR the best combination in the market. Powerstrokes have been awesome (minus, as said before, a few 03-04 6 liters). The 7.3 powerstroke was the best engine ever made. I highly doubt anyone will make a motor that good ever again, but if anyone were to come close to that, IMO it'll be the company that did it before. I think that offering a second diesel option, say a cummins(dodges contract ends at the end of this year), would be a good idea. No one else offers 2 diesel options, and putting a cummins (with a better fuel pump than the dodges, of course) in a ford would bring over many dodge customers who are sick of having tin bodies and frames, their front ends rebuilt, and $400 fuel pumps replaced.
  2. Something I've noticed for a while is that Ford has the lead with police pickups around here. Within the last few years, the sheriffs and dune patrols/rescues have purchased a lot of new F150 supercabs and superduty crewcabs, and I see some Oregon state police superduty supercabs running around here. I think the sheriffs department is replacing a lot of their crown vic's with Ford trucks because they have to go out on the dunes and up unmaintained, muddy roads a lot more than other areas. They experimented with a couple dodge dakota crewcabs, but they had problems with them because all of the equipment they had mounted on them was bottoming out the suspension when they were on the sand. The forest service has had mostly F150's and expeditions for a while. There are still some dodges and very few chevies that I see occasionally, but Ford definitely has that part of the market here.
  3. okay, seeing how stupid rogerjessee is, I had to respond to his "F350 bad trannies" post. Dunno why. I know anyone that reads that forum knows he's a dumbass, but I just had to for some reason.
  4. What specific problems is it having?
  5. I noticed on a friend of mine's '90 toyota pickup that the steering box has "Toyoda" stamped on it. I thought that was kinda wierd when I saw that.
  6. The vents on the '08 powerstrokes are functional.
  7. Here's some pics I ran across a while back on another site. They're pretty Fugly, but IMO not as bad as the supposedly "nicer" XLT and up headlights. Front http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2411508570050160299LSSufH Full gallery http://rides.webshots.com/album/556486325qmHomq
  8. The Oregon state police bought some chargers too, and I agree it has absolutely nothing to do with loyalty. all they know is that they can save $1 if they buy something different. Time will tell how well they do. They may do well, but if they don't, then some actual thought will go into purchases, unless by that time there is another new $1 cheaper product to try.
  9. XLT and Lariat have been around since the 70's, maybe even the 67-72 style had them, but I don't think so. The last few years Ford has really gone full-bore into the luxury aspect of the trucks, with the Harleys and king ranches. I think leather started sometime in the 92-97 body style, but they may have had it in the 87-91 style. I've just never seen one.
  10. how can thelemon think anyone takes him seriously when he keeps getting called out for not researching the random bullshit he spews. a usual conversation on this site: person 1: toyota had a recall this week. thelemon: Oh yeah! Well, uh, fords factories are powered by babies on treadmills! And Toyota is against that! so there.
  11. Boxed frames can be better than C-channel, but you absolutely CAN NOT follow the 03 and newer dodges. Yeah, they're boxed, but that's all they say. No one notices that those boxed rails are sooooooo thin, and all of the mounts(body and springs) are sooooo thin, and they're only welded on. they tear off from any light impact. Whereas the fords have for decades had VERY thick frames and mounts that are held on buy huge rivets. Much stronger than the new POS dodges that aren't any stronger than the 70's chevy frames. At our shop a couple years ago, we had a 2001 super duty and a 2004 ram 2500, both diesel crewcab longbeds, sitting next to each other with the bodies off of both. (FWIW, the ford was rolled and getting a new cab, while the dodge spun it's bed into a tree, and was getting a new frame) you would not believe how much cheap junk was sitting there, especially next to the super duty running gear. also the dodge body is as thick as a beer can. the only thing they have going for them is the cummins. I know none of the domestic's bodies are as strong as they used to be, but holy crap, the dodge quality is nonexistent compared to the fords and chevies. And Toyota, ha. they're fun little play toys, but nothing more. until they even try to build something as strong as any of the domestics(even dodge), they need to STFU.
  12. hahaha yes. I'd rather have SMOG than SMUG any day.
  13. thinking before you write would help you a little. It obviously wouldn't be dangerous if they had a longer bed, and most people don't want to settle for a regular cab, we like options. I know, the supercrew is coming with a "long bed" now, but still not the 8ft, just the normal short bed. I agree that they're too tall. The Ranger bed is nice for small stuff and the super duty bed is just right for the bigger, heavier stuff. the F150 beds are worthless. You should be able to get a truck that will haul both people and cargo, and not have to bump up to the super duty if you don't need that much truck.
  14. They don't want you to, but it wouldn't be hard to cut them off. I guess that's ford's answer to global warming; cool the exhaust.
  15. yeah, what could ford do about that cheap aftermarket insert? That would suck, though, to have it fall off while showing it to a customer. If it's a common problem, you should stop adding them, or if they're trade ins, take them off before trying to sell them.
  16. What a dumbass. He's just a troll only saying stuff to create conflict, whether it's anywhere near true or not. He probably has never even owned a toyota. I'm not gonna bash toyota, they make some okay rigs, but not one will keep up with or outlive a powerstroke.
  17. You need a mechanic that doesn't just replace parts and not figure out what the actual problem is, but sadly, Ford doesn't seem to have a lot of those. They are good trucks. I haven't seen one with a problem, it's just the few who come online and think just because they had a problem, they're all bad. My new one has gone through 90k miles so far of mud, dunes, and hauling wrecked crewcabs to our shop without a single problem, along with many of my friends who love them. and the only complaint any of the loggers and construction fleets around here have about them is the 6 speed has their gears geared a little too far apart. There's a reason Ford sells more diesels than dodge or chevy could dream of. It sucks that you fell into the 1% lemon crowd, I feel for you. I, personally, wish they never quit making the 7.3 powerstroke. No one will ever make an engine as good as that was ever again, but if you can find a mechanic that actually knows what he's doing (and chances are that person is NOT going to be at a dealership) you can have a reliable truck that you can be happy with. I would also recomend looking at superdutydiesel.com and thedieselgarage.com, and other powerstroke specific forums. There are lots of people who know about these trucks, how to fix them, and have advice on where to find good mechanics across the country on there. People who have had the same problems as you can offer some insight on what worked for them, and some who have gotten Ford to buy theirs back could help. I hope you have better luck in the future.
  18. You can't say an 6.4 is gonna be bad because ford build 1 bad 6.0. apples and oranges. Anyone who's had a any 7.3 or 99% of 6.0's knows ford makes a good truck. now, if the 08's just weren't so fugly i'd upgrade from my 05 6.0 (which runs GREAT by the way, and everyone else I know's do too), but that's another thread all together.
  19. Intake, exhaust, and a programmer are pretty easy things to improve power.
  20. What difference does it make whether the engine is firing or not? If you're turning the motor over it's going to be dry until the filter is filled and it's circulating everywhere again. whether there's spark/fuel or not isn't going to make a difference.
  21. Don't hold your breath on a complete redesign in the near future. remember, ford's full size trucks didn't change much from 1980 to 1997. but i sure hope that new grille gets tossed for '09. the 05-07's looked too good, I guess.
  22. the 6.0 will not keep very many from buying a ford diesel. anyone who's owned a 7.3 powerstroke knows ford and international are a match made in heaven. a diesel F150 will be nice. now they need a ranger diesel(in the U.S.).
  23. that sucks. first coil springs, now this. just like chevy, ford's turning it's trucks into cars. might as well get a honda.
  24. what does SLA mean? hopefully nothing to do with independent suspension.
