  1. I've been around a paint booth or two, never removed a (12v) battery while spraying, I did get yelled at by the painters for lighting up a cig while standing outside though ?. Sounds a lot like FUD or a shop trying to rack up costs to me which is why I asked. I asked my body shop painter buddy because I was curious.. He says it may be because of the bake cycle. ~30mins at 160*. Not sure if that'd be an issue with the thermal management they have now, and it only being 30 minutes I doubt the pack would get much of that heat being so deep in the car. Also says natural gas cars aren't allowed in the booth, but hasn't had any specific BEV paint training yet, so take it for what it's worth.
  2. I know the article didn't specify, but maybe someone else knows.. why would you remove the battery pack to spray??
  3. Is there some big ramp in production they're expecting? Why drop the price if you can't build enough as is? The division's margins are already negative.... I know they want to try to keep up with or get closer to Tesla, but this seems like a premature move to me, unless they're expecting some other breakthrough (or maybe I missed something)
  4. I don't know why anyone would intentionally buy a regular cab. My trucks get used for work too, but the back seat of the crew is filled with things for work I don't want in the weather or easily snatched out of the bed. Plus they look goofy on anything newer than an OBS (have two reg cab OBS trucks too)
  5. Hard to believe they're going to do this.. but, does sound pretty cool tbh.
  6. rocket man bad, rocket man buy twitter ?- any article relating to Elon or Tesla in the last few months.
  7. Well, that depends a lot on the specs and what trims are available. If it can tow my toys on the weekend long distance without much compromise and I can ditch the 6.4 I'd be willing to spend high trim money, if it can only do the work truck duties without huge compromise on road trips I'd be at work trim money. My 6.4 isn't getting any newer and fuel probably isn't getting any cheaper, if we're talking a 10-20k spread to go BEV over another maintenance intensive diesel when replacement time comes and there isn't a huge amount of compromise, that seems like a no brainer to me. Very rough math, but at $4/gallon even if it was a 30k premium it'd still take less than 5 years to break even (not including maintenance or DEF, also not including electricity - but I plan on solar and battery storage in the next few years). Either way, if Tesla can build the Semi, Ford should be able to figure out a superduty in the coming years. I have no desire to trade going to a gas station for trying to find a hydrogen filling station - I'll keep the diesel if that's my options.
  8. This superduty customer that tows ~10k wants a BEV Superduty, and I'd bet many in my industry and similar with set routes would love to drop the fuel/gas bill as well.
  9. It's a 28 ft enclosed trailer for my lawn equipment, but almost all of the driving is low speed "city" style driving - where a BEV should shine. I'm in the process of converting some equipment over to battery and just put together a solar/battery system to install on the trailer - still waiting for it to show up. Less noise and gas stink is appealing, and the equipment I have converted so far is lighter and has more power than the gas equivalents they replaced. Cold weather isn't a concern for me, we aren't cutting grass when it's winter time. 200-250 miles of range with the trailer would be fine for my use. Whether it makes sense for Ford to make or if there are many others like me that could use it isn't for me to decide (Ford apparently has decided it's not there yet), just stating what would work for my use case.
  10. Same as the Tesla Semi, it makes sense for some use cases and not for others. For ME, a BEV Superduty is exactly what I need. Truck drives well under 100 miles a day with <10k lbs behind it on set routes and goes back to same place it started every day. I get ~250 miles out of a tank of fuel (6.4 diesel, it's a fuel sucking pig getting 7-8mpg) which lasts the work week for me. It never sees speeds higher than 55-60 during the work week and less than 30 in neighborhoods most of the time. I'd likely still keep the 6.4 for towing the toys on longer trips until charge time/infrastructure is improved. That said, I would consider a plug in hybrid to do both if it came with the features the F150 version has. I also realize I could probably squeak by on ratings with a half ton, but my work truck has a trailer on it 95% of the time and I'd be concerned about longevity being at or close to max load that often. Maybe I'll buy a cybertruck ? (just kidding, that thing is hideous)
  11. As someone waiting on a BEV superduty that meets my needs, and looking at a Tesla semi going 500miles with 80k lbs... this is disappointing.
  12. "How do you get solar energy at night?" By putting it in batteries during the day Maybe I'm missing your point, wasn't being argumentative - just offering an answer to what I thought you were asking.
  13. Ideally by storing it in batteries during the day, but I do realize that isn't reality for most yet.
  14. Completely fair, and nothing wrong at all with taking notes from someone that is doing something better or more efficiently. That approach sounds good for the consumer, give everyone an option. I wonder how it looks for the bottom line.. but probably not much difference if doing huge volumes and utilizing the same parts under the skin.
  15. It's hilarious to me that Farley is following Tesla's playbook page by page, down to a youtube live stream that starts way later than expected, and some still won't admit Tesla is driving all of this. But, great to see F making some more progress. Personally hope they don't go too far with the futuristic truck deal, I want a normal looking BEV Superduty sometime in the future.. not something that looks like the cybertruck.
  16. A one time purchase price OR a monthly subscription seems like the best way to go. People that don't own their cars long enough that the monthly would cost more than the one time price can benefit and people that will own their car longer can benefit by paying once for a "lifetime" subscription. Either way, the manufacturer makes money and the customer can chose what works best for their situation.
  17. That doesn't sound right, don't they produce at giga Nevada and just recently announced expansion on that plant..?
  18. I probably have a trailer hooked to my superduty 95% of the time and there's always something in the bed, but it is my work truck. My other trucks might get my ATV in the bed or haul some parts or pick something up for the house occasionally, but 95% of the time they are just being used to move me around. But, like you said, who cares what someone else does with their vehicle.
  19. Neat trick, but do you really need to "warm up the tires" when you have AWD? Either way, burnouts are cool
  20. I have bags with a gauge/switch and on board pump on my 250. Can let the air out from in the cab when not loaded, then just hit the switch and level it out when the trailer or load is on it. Keep the decent ride when not loaded and handle the heavy loads without any trouble.
  21. It is a decent point that I haven't heard brought up before.. but I imagine much like waiting in lines at a gas station on heavy holiday travel weekends near major interstates, you'll have the same thing with charging stations. Could be a bigger problem if charging times aren't solved in the next gen cars, but if it takes the same amount of time as a fill up by then it may not be too big of an issue. As far as number of chargers, there doesn't seem to be much overhead or maintenance with them (though I don't have anything to back up that guess). And if there's a convenience store attached to it, or the chargers are at the gas station that is still selling gasoline (seems to be happening around here more and more), it might be a none issue altogether.
  22. Ha, was like how tf is that going to fly these days when I saw the title.
