Gee, I sold auto parts from 1966 to 1996 and I've been repairing my own cars for longer. Pontiacs had timing chain issues. The only other GM issue was starters. The only other GM issue was starters. Same for Chrysler and Ford. And that was it! Mid-80's Fords had Control Module issues. It was mounted in front wheel housing. You loosened two bolts and unplugged electrical connections and in 5 minutes you were done. There were only three headlight part numbers that fit GM, Chrysler and Ford. A fourth was the 6 Volt for VW Beetles. Fifteen air filter part numbers were all you needed for all three mfrs. There were no recalls. We've made no progress! On a side note, Farley says AI will eliminate 50 % of white collar jobs. What are these people going to do? Watch and listen to the lyrics of the link below. Virtually nothing has change in 60 years! Very sad. In Terminator 2, the young John Connor says to the original Terminator (Arnold), "We're not going to make it, are we?" The Terminator says, "You have a tendency to destroy yourselves." We haven't learned a damn thing from the Terminator and Matrix movies!!!! (819) Barry McGuire - Eve Of Destruction - YouTube

JD Power 2025 Initial Quality Study
Joe771476 replied to rmc523's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I pay no attention to JD Power. A company can get them to say anything if they qualify it enough. You know, like best car made on a Tuesday at 4:01 PM when the sun was shining on an even numbered day! -

I was just thinking the other day that I haven't seen more than maybe two Hino trucks here in CT in the last couple months, when a few years ago I would see 20 a day. I also hardly ever see a Mercedes Sprinter van. I see a ton of F650/750's and Transit vans though! -

What's up where two lines have the same numbers for Mustang and Ford Trucks? -
Yeah I get it, but checking behind my car and looking around for kids always worked. Yeah I know, things can change in 5 seconds. Okay, what about seat warmers? Why do we even need them? Just a fluff. Do car mfrs. have to recall cars if there's a problem with them? Does a warning light appear on the dash for something that trivial and unnecessary? Does it affect the computer? It shouldn't, but who knows these days. I wish I had my 67 Mustang. No nonsense, I could do any repair on it myself, no engine or oil/maintenance required lights, no emission crap. My 1985 Ford had a fender-mounted control module (Standard ignition part # was LX203) that I had to change once or twice in 15 years and that was it! No computer analysis was needed. If the car didn't start it was the coil, module or fuel pump. All easily replaced. Oh well.

This is just one reason why I don't buy new vehicles anymore. In fact I won't buy anything newer than a 2012-ish vehicle. -

Yeah I noticed that, but maybe the cab was extended forward? The Pumper truck #317 is a mid-80's maybe. Still makes it about 30 years old in 2014. He's claiming Ladder Truck #417 is a 1959. That's debatable. -

I think I posted this a few years ago, but what did we determine regarding Truck 417? I know Mack used the C-series cab for one of their cabovers using 4 headlights. The front sheet metal looks like a Ford, but look at the grille and the side sheet metal. Very strange! I guess up in Canada they don't abide by silly rules like saying a truck has outlived its usefulness after 20 years! Although I think New York keeps its trucks a longer time. And even if you consider the electrical (including wiring itself) and hydraulic (ladder) systems, diamond plate, steel, aluminum, paint etc., a fire truck shouldn't cost $1 million! But it's like selling apples for $1 million a piece. All you have to do is sell one! And since they don't sell that many fire trucks, they're going to ask top dollar for the ones they DO sell! So in 2014, this truck was 55 years old! (571) Beauharnois Fire Dept. - Old Trucks Still in Service! (feat. 1959 Ford C-Series - Full HD) - YouTube -

There's more to it. First these young kids are in no hurry to get their license. And when they do, they -- and their parents -- can't afford any new vehicle, especially after you factor in car insurance and property taxes where applicable. Then they can't drive to save their lives, even if they're not distracted by their phones!! They don't know how to use their mirrors. They can't park. I watched a young girl spend 5 minutes trying to pull into a parking space at a Walmart, only to give up and move on.
