  1. Mercedes, VW and BMW and the Japs can't be too happy! And you can be sure Mercedes hates Ford for the Transit killing Sprinter sales. I think Ford is referred to by it's competition as "That pesky Ford!" That's why Daimler had to buy out Ford Louisville class 7 and 8 after the redesign in 1996/1997! Otherwise their purchase of Freightliner would have been a waste of money!
  2. Don't count propane and gasoline/diesel out just yet! When the mining companies and countries hold Lithium and other minerals hostage like they did with the chips, you'll be holding your thumb up your a$$!!!!
  3. I see Connecticut is going to adopt California emission guidelines for medium duty trucks. Last I knew, school buses fall in this category. I can't wait for the taxpayers to foot that bill when the school bus companies submit their contracts to municipalities!
  4. I thought GM had abandoned 4 wheel steering (Quadrasteer) in the 2000's, but it seems it's back. I think it's on electrics only. Not sure if drivers will be able to get used to it when the back end swings around on a turn at low speeds. On highway lane changes, all four wheels turn in the same direction, which to me means you better be well ahead of the vehicle in the lane you're moving into! I foresee problems. Also, I can't find any updated info on the propane explosion at a Bradford NH school bus depot. Was just wondering if a propane powered bus was to blame or simply a mechanic error. Bob R. that's your neck of the woods.............hear anything?
  5. This whole EV push is going a little overboard. Okay, yes, we should explore various forms of energy. I'd like to know just how much more fossil fuel is left. Supposedly it was drying up in the late 70's. Anyway, school bus mfrs. are going full tilt into electric, but I can't help but wonder if the mining countries where lithium comes from will someday withhold it and we'll be standing around with our thumbs up our A$$es! I wouldn't count gasoline, diesel, propane out just yet. And let's examine this climate change scare. Remember it was global warming? But the deniers, when a cold spell hit, would ask, "What happened to global warming?" So the activists said "yeah we sound stupid, so let's call it climate change." How can you try to reduce the carbon footprint of a carbon based planet!!?? You can't!! Didn't a climate change event wipe out the dinosaurs? Well there were no cars and industrial plants back then!!!!!! Every human exhales 2.2 lbs. of CO2 per day. The population of the country and world has doubled in the last 50 years! So let's do away with people! They came up with this greenhouse effect. This is from scientists who said Pluto was a planet for 60 years, now it's not! Scientists who say milk and eggs are good one year, next year they're not, third year they are again! Scientists who when a hurricane is approaching, draw up 10 models of the possible paths because they really don't know where it's going! The planet Earth doesn't know what the weather is going to be in the next second, but yet scientists can tell me oceans will rise! I etched something into a boulder at a beach at high tide 40 years ago and the water level hasn't risen!
  6. I just saw a trailer on TV for a movie titled "Ambulance." I actually saw SUV police vehicles but I couldn't make out the makes of the police vehicles or the ambulance. I was too far away.
  7. Well here we go again. The 70's revisited. Ford and GM dropped sedans. Some people won't want electric cars so the Japanese will win again with their Camrys and Sentras etc.! They couldn't keep the Fusion? Really?!! At least the police depts. could have had a Ford option instead of having to go to Dodge for sedans! I don't know if art is imitating life or vice versa, but all the murder mystery/cop shows in the early seasons had Crown Vics on the shows, but in later years after the Crown Vic was dropped by Ford, Dodges started showing up on my TV screen. The show "Castle" is just one example. I haven't seen one Ford Explorer in a TV mystery murder or cop show EVER!!! Have you? Anyway Ford just might see a drop in police orders if the Dodge sedans get better fuel mileage than the Explorers. I haven't done any research on MPG comparisons.
  8. I found a list of rules if you will that NASCAR put out 60 or 70 years ago. Damn if I can find it now. Two of the rules were: A) This is a correction. All truck blocks in any car will be a Ford only. The 9-1/2 inch rear end was not in the rules. B)There will never be a foreign brand allowed on the race tracks! Bet you didn't know that, huh.
  9. Sounds like another dumb idea by Ford. Every time Ford has done stuff like this for shareholder value, it has only emasculated and emaciated a once powerful empire! They got rid of Philco and Aerospace biz, farm tractor biz, Class 8 truck biz all for shareholder value. Stock prices tanked! Ford use to be a powerhouse! Now they just make cars and medium duty trucks. Wow. Do you see the trucks and chassis Mercedes provides for concrete pumpers, fire apparatus, cranes?! That's a powerhouse! Keep the EV under Ford, period!
  10. I watched the race for the first time in maybe 15 years or maybe longer. . I became disenchanted when they made all the cars the same like cookie cutter cars. The mfrs. really don't have any input anymore. It's all driver/celebrity oriented. The Fords excelled at Daytona, but it seemed like a Toyota commercial to me. At one point there was a three minute ad about Toyota. Every time the Toyota Camry pace car led the field, the sportscasters mentioned the brand, model etc. Sometimes there was a Toyota pickup as pace vehicle. The sportscasters never used to go into detail when a Ford or Chevy pace car was leading the field in the old days, did they? I don't remember them doing so. if this is the future of NASCAR, count me out!
  11. But have you noticed that the "S" Sterling logo was in an oval? I think Ford made them do that and I also think Ford made New Holland keep the blue color as a reminder that it was originally Ford.
  12. Why are Transit sales down 20% and Ram Promaster is up 40%? They dumping them?
  13. Why didn't they just go with the dual action tailgate like on the station wagons back in the 70's? The entire width went down or was hinged. Handle would not be seen.
  14. Why are Transit sales down 20% and Ram up 40%? Is Ram dumping them?
  15. In fact, can somebody show me a sales chart for class 6 thru 8 by brand? I've been all over the internet and I can't find any info.
  16. In fact, can somebody show me a sales chart for class 6 thru 8 by brand? I've been all over the internet and I can't find any info.
  17. When did Freighliner take over class 6? Ford was the leader for several recent years according to HDT magazine. Well it's easy to take excess capacity from class 8 and downsize to a class 6 and 7 truck. Going UP to class 8 is a little more difficult, but not impossible.
  18. So who pushed Ford off the board of Rivian? Why is Ford distancing itself from Rivian when they should be embracing it!?
  19. Ford should be using the medium duties to get their feet wet with heavy duty electric vehicle applications.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, Ford is/was the leader in class 6! In my opinion, class 7 is dependent on class 8 for crossover sales. In other words, if you don't offer customers class 8, you are not going to sell class 7.
  21. Uh, Ford was in class 8 too! There's no way you can tell me it's that hard to get two rails, connect some cross members, throw on some tires/wheels, an exhaust system, an engine (any engine), a differential and a cab. if Ford used a cab based on the class 1 thru 5 cab, it would be a home run! If Ford went into class 8, their medium sales would triple overnight! And don't give me they don't have a dealer network. All these truck dealers/repair garages repair every brand, not just the ones they sell! Just order the parts!
  22. Ford's stake is worth $12 billion. I still can't understand how these new start-ups that have very little assets and very small amounts of vehicles on the road can outdo Ford and GM! I think I'll start hyping a water powered vehicle.
  23. On a side note: Is that GM's new logo? Talk about emasculating a company!
