  1. Any future decisions based on what is best for the Company needs to include their best asset...the line workers. People want to blame poor quality on the workers when if there is a quality issue, it is due to poor or inadequate design, not the men and women that put those designs together. A prime example is the 1.5L Ecoboost with coolant intrusion into the cylinders....is it the guy that built the motor or the designer that created it?
  2. The entire process is being negotiated in the press which is a huge mistake.
  3. Just an FYI....I pay for my health care as well as part of well negotiated union contract.
  4. I never, ever said Corporations are "evil empires" and I am a proud supporter of the capitalist way of life....if a corporation does well and makes a shit ton of profit, why would they not want to enrich their employees that helped put them there instead of worrying about "enhancing investor value" over all else??
  5. This is what happens when outsiders give opinions of what should be in a contract negotiation...
  6. And you act like people will remain fat, dumb, and blissfully ignorant to the fact that they are being exploited forever at those non-union plants. We are never going to agree with each others view of the situation, but I am happy to debate it.
  7. All states are now "right to work" due to Janus vs AFSCME......or as I like to say, "right to work, for less"
  8. I get it, you're not a fan of unions. Thankfully, I am.
  9. The rank and file turned down the "final" offer. It's not extortion. Negotiators reach agreements all the time, does not mean the rank and file must accept it. Here in NY - a recent meditated offer was presented to NYS correction officers, it too was voted down but here in NY, public employees are forbidden to strike due to the Taylor law which outlines fines if they do attempt to strike. So in the case of the correction officers, now they go back to the mediator and tell him, "Our members said no" and now they need to sweeten the offer. The only sad part of the correction officer story is of over 18,000 members, only 4500 voted.
  10. Well, to be fair...I said "Most compelling" and not "just plain coo-coo" but that was a fun thread.
  11. People that can buy a BMW, MB or Audi have much more "disposable" income to throw around and buy unique vehicles like a Tesla....does not make it a luxury vehicle. Teslas ARE nice, but lets face it. Even Elon fancies himself more of a "Henry Ford" type exec than a "Henry Leland", in his work to bring electric cars to the masses.
  12. I went from a Lincoln Corsair to a Ford Bronco (because I wanted one)...does that make my Bronco Black Diamond a luxury vehicle?
  13. Just because it costs more than an Acura, Infiniti or Lincoln does not make it a luxury vehicle.
  14. As a member of a union negotiation committee AND one that is preparing to go to the table soon, there are certain metrics that need to be met first prior to presenting an offer to the membership. With that said, our team has studied our employers ability to pay factor and what comparable unions also got in their negotiations and settlements. When all that is done, once a contract offer is presented, as a member of said negotiations committee, I am duty bound to present the offer in a positive manner (some would say "selling it") and if I did not and instead told my members that it sucked, I would be charged with bargaining in bad faith. Here is the rub where I am from, while the contract is expired, we are open for a challenge to union representation - but even that is not all that it is cracked up to be since all negotiations comes to a grinding halt while said challenge is settled.
  15. It may be priced at a premium, but it is not considered a "luxury" vehicle.
  16. Amazing that this thread is still going strong over 10 years on!! Thank you @Joe771476 for starting one of the most compelling threads on BON
  17. I think I broke the Bing AI....I asked it to create a 2024 Ford Pinto wagon....I have gotten this for the past 5 minutes.
  18. And that is the biggest fallacy of being a member of a union - people mistakenly think you cannot get fired if you are in a union shop. That is incorrect. All it means is that when an employee faces a termination level event, the employer must follow the termination procedures laid out in the CBA that they agreed to with the union.
  19. At one time, that was a significant thing to have to do...nowadays, it is meaningless due to the clowns on both sides of the isle looking for their sound bite instead of actually doing something meaningful.
