  1. And what the frame is like, boxed or not, and if it has the 10 speed.
  2. "Rival Ram has decided to use a similar solution for all its pickups, beginning with the 20151/2 Ram Rebel, released last month." But Ram 4 days ago said: As you might expect, other truckmakers are responding. Here are just two. Ram: "All Ram Truck configurations are designed and engineered to perform equally in impact tests." http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/07/2015-ford-f-150-gets-mixed-iihs-crash-test-results.html So that was a lie.
  3. Some 2015 Rams are not reinforced eventhough Ram said they were all built the same. Ram, you lie! Mike Levine ‏@mrlevine 11h11 hours ago Fact: Ram only putting "wheel blockers" on some 2015 trucks. 0 retweets 0 favorites https://twitter.com/mrlevine/status/628219289263325184
  4. UPDATE: "When this crash test was introduced in 2012, the new F-150 was already far into development, Ford spokesman Mike Levine said. Engineers weren't able to design the extra front-end protective measures quickly enough for all versions, he said, so a decision was made to add them first to the four-door SuperCrew truck, which accounts for a large majority of F-150 sales. The protective measures will be part of the vehicle's 2016 design." http://money.cnn.com/2015/07/30/autos/ford-f-150-crash-test/ If they knew about the test since 2012 I don't know what the hold up was for the other versions. At least they are fixing it for 2016 MY. Maybe this is part of the reason why a lot of the RC and SuperCab long wheelbase trucks and all HD Payload trucks were cancelled and not built for the 2015 MY and will start in 2016 MY.
  5. The split is stated in the article. "The SuperCab — or extended cab — accounts for about 12 percent of sales and the regular cab 5 percent. IIHS hasn’t rated the regular cab."
  6. This Ram parts issue has been going on since 2009 when Mike Levine still worked at PUTC. They've had a long time to get these parts fixed.
  7. This has been going on for several years. The trucks have defective steering parts which they don't have the parts for or cannot fix. Ram guys said it wasn't a problem. Now this. smh. http://www.pennlive.com/nation-world/2015/07/sources_fiat_chrysler_to_buy_b.html
  8. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued a voluntary recall today that addresses concerns over remote hacking of some of its vehicles. The company says the network itself has been repaired as of July 23, so that specific hack can't occur. The recall, which affects all vehicles with 8.4-inch touch-screens with UConnect, will also include additional security measures to the vehicles' onboard electronics and safety systems detailed below. Vehicles Affected: Approximately 1.4 million vehicles manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, including model-year 2013-15 Dodge Viper supercars; 2013-15 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks; 2013-15 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs; 2014-15 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs; 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans; and 2015 Dodge Challenger sports cars Read more: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/07/fca-recalls-14-million-vehicles-over-hacking.html#more
  9. Chrome bumpers are still there. This is merely one trim level.
  10. Chevy has the options pkg discount in the $8000 off Silverado ad that is running right now. And it's only tied to one particular truck like the Ford. What's really confusing is when you build a Ram truck they include a down payment in the selling price. They list base MSRP on one line, options total on a separate line, a down payment, then the estimated "selling" price with a 10% down payment. Not just a straight up total MSRP so you can see what you are really paying. This is annoying and makes the price appear to be $4500+ less than it actually is.
  11. I hate that. Also the Platinums that were supposed to be $8k off are only $7k off "at most" if you qualify for all the offers. It's that Top MSRP trick before equipment pkg discount again like you said. $7k off a $57,380 truck is only 12% off MSRP. I don't think the XLT SuperCab 2.7L Chrome Pkg deal is to sell trucks that are overproduced. This is to gets folks into the showroom, as most folks don't do their homework before hand.
  12. That's not $12k. The $45,065. MSRP on the first truck is misrepresented on the website. The window sticker shows the dealer website MSRP is inflated by $2k. and is actually $43,065. That drops it down to $10k off. This truck is a 2.7L XLT SuperCab Luxury Pkg so if you want something else you're not going to get that much off. Plus you have to factor in bogus rebates you aren't going to qualify for. Article on this linked by Mike Levine.... https://twitter.com/mrlevine/status/622108687079972864 Mike Levine ‏@mrlevine 4h4 hours ago $10K F-150 incentives? "...a frenzy upon further reflection with no real substance." http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2015/07/reasons-for-ford-truck-incentives-overblown/ … via @DetroitBureau
  13. Post the link. The ones that are up to $10K+ off are fools gold and loaded with junk rebates and incentives that are not incentives at all.
  14. True. Bloggers are writing about the F-150 getting discounted "already." But the order banks opened a year ago..... 2015 F-150 Order & Start-up Dates!!! Order Date: 7/16/14 http://www.f150online.com/forums/2015-f-150/496786-2015-f-150-order-start-up-dates.html 2016 Order banks open on 8/1, 2 weeks. If the 2015 F-150 never got discounted all we would hear about is how they are overpriced. The incentives are still on the low side unless you are buying an XLT SuperCab with the 2.7L and the luxury package - then it's about average. $7k off.
  15. They do this every year and I don't see what the big deal is. In the $9400 example, it is only for on particular model, 2.7L Luxury pkg XLT supercab - good luck finding one. And only if you qualify for Ford credit. It also includes the $2k Luxury Pkg Discount. Dealers love to include this to make it sound like you are getting money off, but this is not an incentive. This is the EQUIPMENT GROUP DISCOUNT that is part of MSRP when you build and price. So at best you are $7400 off here on this single model. Final order date is in 2 weeks and if I was ordering a truck I would want more than $7400 off a $47k truck.
  16. UPDATE: According to Automotive News, some auto industry strategists are second-guessing Chevy's decision to attack Ford's body material choice... The fact that parent company GM uses quite a bit of aluminum in the existing Silverado and is likely to use even more in the next generation makes the attack seem a bit disingenuous. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/07/gm-videos-take-fords-use-of-aluminum-to-task.html ___ The strategy is risky for Chevy, too, says Jim Sanfilippo, an independent marketing consultant and former executive at ad agencies for Ford and Hyundai. For one thing, it could come off as hypocritical for GM, which uses some aluminum components, including the hood of the Silverado, and is sure to use more in coming years. GM is expected to make broader use of aluminum on the next-generation pickup -- possibly for the doors and liftgate -- when it arrives in late 2018 or early 2019, sources say. "If I'm a GM engineer working on the next truck, I'm scratching my head a little bit," Sanfilippo says. "They're probably telling the marketing people, 'Hey guys, you realize we're already lining up our aluminum suppliers, right?'" http://www.autonews.com/article/20150706/RETAIL03/307069962/chevy-ad-escalates-pickup-war-puts-steel-vs-aluminum-issue-on-the
  17. It will be "easy" for GM to flip flop on this. GM will go to aluminum in 2018, but that is a few years away and by then it may not be all aluminum. GM will claim they used aluminum in the right places and this other more durable materials here (ultra high strength steel, carbon fiber, etc.), or "our aluminum is better and stronger", it is welded, not riveted etc. Whether it is better or not, GM will claim it is and flip flop just like they flip flopped on the tailgate step (that Richard mentioned), the bed side steps they bashed in 2009 (which Howie called the man step that "doesn't fix the problem" in an infomerical), heated steering wheels, etc. And in the meantime they will bash Ford.
  18. They'll get the F-150 inventory right just before the Super Duty goes aluminum and loses production sending the media into a frenzy again.
  19. Read the closing statements. It explains all. Fourth, some automakers told Automotive News that the chicken tax is not the only barrier keeping their smaller pickups out of the United States. Toyota spokesman Scott Vazin said the size of the Hilux would make it a "tweener" in the U.S., overlapping too much with the full-size Tundra and midsize Tacoma. A Volkswagen spokesman said the company, which has said the tariff was the biggest impediment to selling the Amarok in America, now also doubts whether the truck is the proper size for the U.S. And a Mazda spokesman said the BT-50 would be a mismatch for Mazda's sporty, affordable-premium U.S. brand identity.
  20. Consumer Reports' complaint IS the fact that Ford pickups have traditionally been the most "truck like" and the 2015 F150 continues with that tradition. They (true to form for car magazine testers) say "Ram 1500's unique rear coil spring suspension raised expectations for ride quality." They mention NOTHING about loaded ride or ride pulling a load. In closing - you want a pickup to do a job a pickup is SUPPOSED to be able to do you buy a Ford OR a GM. Air Ride is supposed to be better than coils alone BUT................ This is what PUTC said about Ram 1500, "Ram lost most of its points was in its limited payload, braking numbers and the ride quality of the air suspension when towing or loaded." One last point - Consumer Reports is ok for DURABILITY DATA but poor for actual tests. Remember this, they have picked the Avalanche and Ridgeline multiple years in a row as best pickup trucks.
  21. Gonna Get Rid of my Sticker Quote: "I keep it over the Check Engine Light. Actually doesn't bother me. Don't see the CEL and forget about the sticker. Sure I can eliminate the CEL with my Ultra Gauge but it keeps coming back. Today I took it to Firkins Ram in Bradenton. Simple. They did not delete. There was no drama like I read about so often here. 1/2 hour later they gave me the truck back and this paper. Notice that the new DEF system is the same number as that TSB placed here for our reference. Also note I'm not remotely upset, yelling or deranged about this. To me the dealer and Chrysler/Fiat are being good and responsable. I don't know or really care how long it takes for the new DEF sytem to come . "Someday my ship will come". For now I notice no change in operation. The light doesn't bother me either. I have my sticker." link: http://www.ram1500diesel.com/forum/ram-1500-diesel-general-discussion/5678-gonna-get-rid-my-sticker.html Ram EcoDiesel engine Trucks Diesel
  22. The issue is all over f150online and f150forum. My 05 has it although I have covered it up with a bug deflector.
  23. From the PUTC Ram and GM fanbois: "I think this is a cost reduction move to do G.M.'s high legal problems and makes it harder for the future people with problems to recover their money. Does the warranty matter to me. Your dam right it does and especially with an all new platform I.E, Ford F series. So again looks like Chrysler will be getting my money again. Posted by: HEMI V8 | Mar 17, 2015 6:42:26 PM Why would i want a truck that is ...When i can buy a better warranty Posted by: HEMI V8 | Apr 18, 2015 1:13:12 PM WHY BUY ANY OTHER TRUCK? 2014 Ram 1500 Unsurpassed 5-Year/100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty+ Posted by: Hemi Mechanic | Nov 14, 2013 11:21:12 PM Will Ford give a better warranty on their new pickup that will match what GM and Ram offer? Posted by: greg | Jan 13, 2014 7:51:20 AM Until ford comes out with a 100k warranty they aren't even an option in my new truck search. Posted by: Ryan | Apr 14, 2014 8:51:46 AM The Chevy Silverado has a warranty with 100,000 miles. That is 40,000 miles more than Ford and Toyota. I have no desire to continue to "debate" with someone who cares so little for the Chevy Silverado, so congrats, if you read and reply to this message, you'll get the last word. Hooray for you. Posted by: bobby | Jul 10, 2010 4:31:27 AM Would you buy a 3yr. old Eco used with 61,000 miles? Don't forget that fantastic 60,000 mile warranty. That would not be a smart move imo. Posted by: Fred the man | Feb 6, 2013 6:01:35 PM Maybe Ford should change their 5yr/60,000 mile warranty, the worst in the truck industry. Oh, I forgot. Companies never drive over 12,000 miles a year. That's what the Ford boys say. Posted by: fredtheman | Jun 19, 2014 12:41:53 PM It looks as unreliable as the 2014 150. But being new, maybe Ford will move to 26th place for reliability with the new pickup. I wonder if Ford will match GM and Ram's warranty with the new pickup, but I doubt it because of the poor reliability record for Ford. Posted by: greg | Nov 14, 2013 5:37:41 PM "Until ford comes out with a 100k warranty they aren't even an option in my new truck search." I like many others will NOT buy another vehicle without coverage till at least 100K!!! if the manufacture will not stand behind their product, how can they expect a buy too! 24. Three 2015 midsize crossovers from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and one from Hyundai came in last among seven midsize SUVs tested by the insurance industry's auto safety arm in its latest crash testing, according to results of the released Tuesday. Dodge Journey got the lowest rating of "poor" for an overall score in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's toughest crash test, the small overlap front crash that's meant to mimic what happens when a vehicle strikes a pole or another vehicle on the left-hand side of the front end, directly in front of the driver. The Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee and Hyundai Santa Fe were rated "marginal" overall after the testing At the other end of the scale, with the top ratings of "good" or "acceptable" in the overlap test were the redesigned Nissan Murano, the Ford Flex and the four-door version of the Jeep Wrangler. With its finish in the overlap test, plus its results in the other tests in the IIHS battery and its crash avoidance technology, the Nissan Murano now will carry the IIHS' most coveted rating: Top Safety Pick Plus. "The designation of the IIHS 'Top Safety Pick Plus' for the all-new 2015 Murano is exactly what Nissan expected for a vehicle that has always set the trends in its segment," said Fred Diaz, a Nissan senior vice president, in a statement. "This Murano has once again raised the bar for midsize crossovers." The Flex, meanwhile, earned the designation Top Safety Pick for its finish in this test. The Jeep did not, based on the other tests, such as the roof crush test, since the Jeep does not have a fixed roof, IIHS noted. IIHS spokesman Russ Rader says that while the Journey rated poorly, it was not the worst crossover or SUV that the agency has given this test. The worst so far has been the Mazda CX-9. The Journey's chief failure was structural integrity. The passenger compartment buckled when the vehicle was crashed into the overlap barrier at 40 miles per hour. The instrument panel and parking brake pedal were pushed back as much as nine inches into the cabin, IIHS reported. The instrument panel ended up on top of the crash-test dummy's knees. The pedal tore through the lower left leg of the dummy. In addition, the dummy's head barely came in contact with the front air bag before sliding off to the left, and the side curtain air bag didn't deploy, which meant the dummy's head could come in contact with hard surfaces. IIHS called it a "classic example of poor small overlap protection." Durango was also rated poor for body integrity. Cherokee was marginal in the category and rated poor for restraints. "Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep have had some successes with redesigned models, but they haven't done much in the way of interim improvements," said IIHS Chief Research Officer David Zuby in a statement. "As a result, they still have many models that rate poor or marginal." http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2015/05/12/dodge-suv-iihs/27139905/
  25. INSIDE THE AUTO BUSINESS Like a 20-something single female who endlessly goes on and on and on about how amazing marriage would be, Sergio Marchionne's constant talk of the need of automaker mergers is beginning to make FCA look dreadfully desperate. From Bloomberg: "While first-quarter profit surged 22 percent, margins lagged far behind FCA’s Detroit rivals. Ford made $924 million on $31 billion in revenue in the first quarter, GM $900 million on $35.7 billion in sales. Fiat Chrysler earned $92 million on $26.4 billion." http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2015/04/auto-news-for-thursday-april-30-2015.html?m=1
