  1. I quoted it to show the anti-Ford fanbois and the Chevy Communications Manager talking points. Too funny. Awhile ago someone asked about conquest buyers, here is some info on that. Is GM conquesting their own vehicles? "However, beneath the encouraging numbers for the Colorado and Canyon are some less positive trends, said IHS Automotive analyst Tom Libby. Nine of the top 10 vehicles previously owned by buyers of the Colorado and Canyon are GM cars and trucks. Owners of full-size Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks made up more than 16 percent of the consumers who switched into both smaller GM pickups, according to IHS data. "That was ominous," Libby said. "There may be a deeper issue here" related to the potential for undercutting sales of higher-margin models." http://www.autonews.com/article/20150423/RETAIL01/150429908/gm-gets-boost-from-smaller-pickups-but-doubters-question-for-how-long
  2. There has always been a certain amount of cross-shopping between midsize and full-size pickups, so that is nothing to be concerned about. But if you look at sales since Colorado and Canyon were introduced, you see strong demand, strong prices and very low dealer inventories. Customers are reentering the segment from all sorts of GM and non-GM vehicles, just as we predicted. If you talk to dealers or customers, there is NO sign that this is a flash in the pan. This is one of those times where the analysts and reporters need to get out from behind their computer screens and talk to customers and dealers in the real world. Posted by: Tom Wilkinson at Chevy | Apr 28, 2015 9:20:45 AM No doubt there is pent up demand, but keep in mind that the midsize segment ran at 800,000+ units a year for 20 years. That is a lot of customers, and a LOT of pend up demand. Also, when you talk to customers in traditional midsize truck markets like southern California or the northeast US, it becomes clear that there are a lot of people for whom a midsize pickup is their preferred vehicle, due to narrower roads, denser traffic, smaller parking spaces, etc. How you feel about midsize trucks depends a lot on where you live and where you drive. Posted by: Tom Wilkinson at Chevy | Apr 28, 2015 9:49:33 AM Nissan makes a good truck but its light years behind the GM Twins. This article was written by MiKe Levine, Ford Gurls are just jealous that GM has the guts to enter this market and win. Ford wont bring back the Ranger, they only care about the sales numbers, everyone knows GM owns the sales in relation to individual owners, only the fleet sales help Furd win anything. 3. 3 weeks after Mark Williams from PUTC said the Colorado wasn't stealing sales from full-size trucks... by Mark Williams | April 28, 2015 "Clearly the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have injected some adrenaline into the midsize pickup truck segment and, so far, have provided all the segment players with growing sales, but for how long and at what cost? According to Automotive News, as many as 16 percent Colorado or Canyon buyers switched from their full-size counterparts (the Silverado or Sierra 1500). Some experts think this potentially means that Colorado and Canyon sales eventually could take a big bite out of GM's half-ton pickup profits as well as flatten sales. Some analysts believe the next few years will be good for midsize pickups due in large part the two new players and a revitalized Toyota Tacoma coming out by the end of this year, but over the next five years things could be different. Even if the midsize truck segment grows, some are saying it won't get bigger than 500,000 units, meaning less than 3 percent of the entire automotive industry — not even close to the segment's heyday in the late 1980s at around 9 percent." 4. When Colrodo won MT's TOTY they said Chevy expects it to perform well in future crash testing. Now that the ratings have been out for a few days, there hasn't been a peep from MT or GM on the Colorado rating.
  5. Federal regulators have given its top five-star rating to the biggest version of the nation's bestselling vehicle, the Ford F-150, but General Motors' new midsize pickups came in at four stars. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2015/04/16/ford-f-150-crash-ratings-chevrolet-colorado/25889207/
  6. As posted on PUTC and written by Tim Esterdahl, editor of Tundraheadquarters and TacomaHQ, Toyota truck fan sites: link: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/04/five-reasons-ford-should-bring-ranger-back-to-us.html
  7. But how would he know by looking at total sales that the Silverado did not lose any sales to the Colorado? Silverado sales may be up because they were terrible last year, down 18.4% in January 2014.
  8. According to Mark Williams logic.... "The popular idea (especially among truck-neutral auto writers) that the Chevy and GMC midsize choices would likely steal sales from their half-ton big brothers does not seem to be panning out. Combined monthly sales of the Colorado and Canyon are averaging just less than 10,000 units, yet Silverado and Sierra sales are both up for the month, and solidly in the green for the year. Much of that growth is happening in the half-ton segment." link: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/04/best-selling-pickup-trucks-march-2015.html

  10. Drivetrain Warranty: Ford went to a 5 year / 60,000 miles for the 2007 MY. GM countered with a 5 year / 100,000 miles for the 2007 MY. Ford stays firm. GM goes bankrupt in 2009 and gets a bailout. GM goes back to a 5 year / 60,000 miles for the 2016 MY.
  11. Ford won against anti-Ford/pro-GM fanbois like this from PUTC that bragged about the longer warranty... Until ford comes out with a 100k warranty they aren't even an option in my new truck search. Posted by: Ryan | Apr 14, 2014 8:51:46 AM •Best-in-class powertrain warranty – 5 years/100,000 miles Posted by: JR | Apr 4, 2012 11:40:04 PM Mark: there are a lot of folk out here that drive 100K in 5 years you know? and I for one like the idea of powertrain coverage for more than 60K ! most folks drive at least more than 60K in 5 years! so I like many others will NOT buy another vehicle without coverage till at least 100K!!! if the manufacture will not stand behind their product, how can they expect a buy too! Posted by: sandman4X4 | Apr 14, 2014 1:43:35 PM GM did 460 out of a 6.2 with a 100k warranty. How does that apple taste??? Posted by: Tyler | Nov 2, 2013 12:32:38 AM It looks as unreliable as the 2014 150. But being new, maybe Ford will move to 26th place for reliability with the new pickup. I wonder if Ford will match GM and Ram's warranty with the new pickup, but I doubt it because of the poor reliability record for Ford. Posted by: greg | Nov 14, 2013 5:37:41 PM
  12. Not gonna happen and makes no sense specially with Ford trying to lose weight with the current F-450.
  13. Here’s the flaw in Edmunds’ findings. They never took a sledgehammer to a 2014 F-150 to find out what it would cost to repair similar damage to a steel body panel. I’d like to take a look at that repair bill. Ford says the cost of pulling a dent from an aluminum body panel should take no longer than a steel one. Ford spokesman Mike Levine also says that in many cases the new F-150 will actually be easier to repair, because of its innovative modular structure which reduces repair time and helps save costs. Major body damage like the type Edmunds inflicted on the 2015 F-150 is rare – only about 1 percent of repair work, according to Ford. The majority of F-150 collision repairs will be non-structural and can be completed by most body shops today (e.g. bumpers, grilles, mirrors, dings, dents). In fact, Ford offers up a fun video of its own, showing professional athletes whacking golf balls, baseballs and even a shot put into the reinforced truck bed to demonstrate that the aluminum F-150 is actually about 30 percent more ding- and dent-resistant than the outgoing steel model. http://www.forbes.com/sites/joannmuller/2015/01/27/whats-crazier-than-smashing-an-aluminum-ford-f-150-with-a-sledgehammer-the-repair-bill/
  14. If you recall Ford recalled this for the ambulance '11-'12 Super Duties in 2013. But there was a big brouhaha because Ford said this could occur in non-ambulances, but they were only recalling the ambulances at this time. http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/55081-ford-recalls-ambulances-because-engines-can-stop/ http://bigstory.ap.org/article/ford-recalls-ambulances-because-engines-can-stop
  15. The 2015 Ford F-150 has been honored with the inaugural Truck Trend 2015 Pickup Truck of the Year award from the truck experts at the magazine https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2015/01/06/f-150-is-truck-trend-magazine-pickup-of-the-year.html F-150 outperformed all other contenders in various tests evaluating truck design, capability, performance and fuel efficiency “Ford has found a sweet spot in the half-ton pickup segment, delivering a compelling mix of efficiency and capability, while still delivering an enhanced driving experience that American consumers demand,” said Sean P. Holman, Truck Trend content director. “What we put these trucks through was nothing short of grueling, and it was the F-150 that consistently impressed our experts.”
  16. Plus regular gas in the F-150 is 40 cents a gallon cheaper than the premium gas PUTC put in the Silverado, Sierra and the Ram. I'll also add that PUTC made no mention of this when they scored for fuel "economy."
  17. Visser says online sales aren't meant to replace dealers, though. Cars ordered online will still have to be delivered at dealerships, he said. The goal, however, is likely to make buying a Volvo easier for customers who live far away from a Volvo dealer, and also allow the company's roughly 2,000 global dealers to stock fewer vehicles. http://www.carscoops.com/2014/12/volvo-plans-to-sell-more-cars-online.html
  18. Correct. "The steel firewall, by the way, is used because steel has optimal noise, vibration, and harshness–quelling characteristics; Ford’s piece uses two bits of steel with a damping material sandwiched between them." http://blog.caranddriver.com/10-things-you-didnt-know-about-the-2015-ford-f-150/ "And while most of the body sheetmetal is aluminum, there is one component in the body that isn’t: that’s the laminated Quiet Steel sound-absorbing firewall. Aluminum didn’t do as well at isolating engine noise." http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/pickup/2015_ford_f_150_first_look/#ixzz3LfKYAYjH

  20. Ford argues that a gas-burning EcoBoost engine in the new aluminum-bodied F-150 is a better buy, because Ford's engine costs thousands less than the Ram diesel. At today's fuel prices, even the hybrid system Ford's working on would pay for itself sooner than a diesel, Nair said, though he wouldn't completely rule out a diesel F-150. http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/mark-phelan/2014/12/03/climate-change-ford-greenhouse-mustang-ecoboost-diesel-auto-news-phelan/19803441/
