  1. Yeah...Mercury had better sales than Lincoln. :shades:
  2. I'm not so much asking as wishing it could tow 4.5K-5K pounds.
  3. What a piece of work you are. I have only seen speculation, nothing official has been linked/proven as to why the Edge can tow more. Again,. you need to separate opinion from fact. ONLY FORD knows why the Edge is only rated for 3500 pounds...
  4. I agree...it's a great value. They could dial it back a tad and pocket the difference.
  5. Other than marketing speak...I really don't see the difference. Engines (or lack of), drive systems, and structure do not make a vehicle. Jeep has shown us that. I would love to replace my Expedition with a V6 Edge that could tow my boat and gear. I also have a family member that's in the same boat (pun completely intended). Is it really that wild of a concept that a mid-sized SUV can tow more than 3500 pounds. Is there really only a market for 7 passenger vehicles that can tow 5K pounds?
  6. I agree, the Escape is dated...but it still looks good. My fav of the current small SUVs. Either way, Ford is moving a ton of them which intern will help them in the future. I have recommended the Escape to two co workers after the great experiences I have seen in my work one.
  7. LOL...The SUV is like the "super size" fries from McDonalds. McDonalds, under pressure from the health nazis, got rid of their super size fries...except that they didn't. They just relabeled them "large". Same thing with the SUV. It never went away. Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Expedition, Explorer, Edge, Escape, etc. They are all SUVs. But in an effort to pander to the enviro nazis, the auto makers renamed them "crossovers" or "utilities". On the Edge Eb though...I think it's a great combination...but it's stupid that the V6 Edge can't tow more. Such short sightedness.
  8. I agree...the Lincolns with the split-wing baleen grills (past and present sadly) come to mind. But the current Escape does not look like crap. The Edge does not look like crap. And both are up for the year with the Escape being up massively. I disagree that Ford is doing well because of Euro design...if anything....the Fiesta is doing good as it's finally getting noticed (this year) but it was tweaked for N/A. But the Focus? It's stumbling. So maybe you are onto something. Despite the Focus having the goods, because it looks horrible, it's not selling.
  9. Yeah...I don't mind it in the Edge. The Explorer is a joke. It's a fine art between balancing efficiency with driveability. Sure it may be economical...but if it's slower than a one-legged man with a walker, who will want it?
  10. Which to me means 51% of people couldn't pick a Lincoln out from a lineup of cars. Current Lincolns are as bland as a Camry in their eyes...they just don't get noticed. This is VERY good because expectations will be low. I guess the 2 decades of neglecting Lincoln is going to pay off.
  11. I was going to mention the increased quality, the increased mileage, the great reliability, and the fancy features...but I chose not to....it seemed a bit futile after that statement.
  12. While Ford probably made a mistake by putting such a tiny engine in such a heavy vehicle, the basic concept that EB = diesel is still there. I agree on the fuel economy though. People will not like it if it doesn't deliver.
  13. You said the 'naughty words'....(Motor Trend) I've learned that you cannot praise any of the auto magazines as they haven't the first clue as to what they are talking about (that coming from a bunch of people in an internetz forum).
  14. I am amazed they didn't receive the engines along with the F-150. That is the weak spot with those SUVs...everything else is just fine. It would have been a nice hold over.
  15. It's pretty obvious he was talking about design language. So are you asserting that because of European design language, Ford is doing well?
  16. Ford already has their "diesel" bases covered. It's called Ecoboost.
  17. What does that have to do with the European design?
  18. Bah...it's the 7.3...it will out live every 6.0 and 6.4 built plus 6.7s that aren't even built yet!
  19. I guess I don't understand how/why it would be a loss in sales. And can you see people towing a 27' trailer with an Explorer? Give people choice. I'm sure there are many people out there that need to tow up to and including 5K pounds on occasion, but for the majority of the time, want a economical vehicle to travel back and fourth to work. Thank God that none of you are employed by Ford. If you were...we'd still be driving around in Model Ts. After all...they sold very well...why would Ford ever need to change them? Why would Ford want to make the Edge more capable and more appealing to more people?
  20. I've done neither. And on here, everyone is NOT entitled to their opinion. If said opinion does not fall inline with a few peoples view of reality, then you are automatically targeted with sarcastic responses or purposeful misunderstanding and misrepresentation just to slam the poster...all because they shared their opinion...in a polite, non offensive way. Fortunately, there is an ignore feature. Unfortunately, it does not block the drivel when someone quotes it.
  21. Thinking about it today...I would rather see Ford continue on it's "no Ranger for the USA" warpath and instead, spend the little amount of money it would take and give the Edge a 5K tow rating. Right now, you have to buy some huge monstrosity like the Flex or Explorer to get a decent tow rating (aside from the Expedition, trucks, etc). I bet Ford would do very well with a mid-sized SUV with a decent tow rating. It's silly that the Escape and Edge share a maximum tow rating. With it's powertrain being in the Explorer, the Edge should be much higher.
  22. Sure. It's your opinion. The actual facts say otherwise, but it's ok that you have your opinion. Do you know what the definition of the word 'opinion' is? My link
  23. Word on the street is that the Avalanche will not return after the GMT900 platform.
