RichardJensen Good catch sir, yea the KR is older model so not a good apples to apples...I know there are a whole lot of factors that go into the cost of making any specific automobile and my example was much too simplistic. Better would be the KR at 7800 lbs of components at $40K vs my 580lb Harley FXR at $18K KR cost me $5.1 per pound FXR cost me $31.0 per pound Sorry guys way off track about what this thread is about... I sort of scratch my head sometimes trying to figure why some things are priced as they are.... of course I understand the notion of "what the market will bear"

I am very loyal to Ford trucks simply because they always live up to my abuse and don't cost me a fortune to own over the usable life of my vehicles (10+years and 280K+ miles) I have generally been entertained by Chevy and Dodge truck commercials but frequently cough out a BS! on many of them I always fantasize how I would advertise the Ford truck ....if I could get FoMoCo advertising team to hire me I know I could do much better job telling how a Ford truck is superior in most every way but comfort.... sorry but tis true, even the $60K F350 high zoot truck drives exactly like it's 5400LB carrying capacity demands...butt jarring harsh on bad roads when empty.. but smooth as silk with the load in the bed with a braking system that can handle slowing it all down if needed

I guess my own assumption is wrong and perhaps your spitball may be way off also as I read your "averaged out over all of the volume" I think we don't have enough information for a global 7.2% or NA 11.1% margin to say how much of any specific car is positive yield Example from my stable of Fords... I can think for sure that the total cost of all components of my F350 4 door Long bed 4 x 4 King ranch at 7800 lbs wet is much more that all the components in my 4000LB MKC with very similar cost to buy ($40K+/-)...Thus I assume the "profit margin" on the MKC is more that the KingRanch
  4. That was fun thanks I was stationed with the Army in Germany in the mid 70s I bought a GI special (under $500) a used Taunus with a V4 engine and column shift. I always thought they screwed up the rear end gearing because going 70mph she was screaming high RPM...I did not know better as was my first European car and I was a very young ignorant GI My wife finally came to Germany a month later and one day she shifted it into a gear that bogged down the car... I thought she did something wrong It was then that I learned there was such a thing as 4 on the tree.... every column shift I drove in the USA was "3 on the tree" Once I found high gear she drove at a much more reasonable RPM Autobahn speeds

I would have loved to see one of the lil darlings, be totally unfazed by the loss of the WiFi, and pop his or her phone into hotspot mode and keep watching the movie OH I suppose they edited that out cuz we all know the car MUST have every bell and whistle to sell to low information folks that almost all TV seems to create more of day in and day oput

I doubt seriously that I have any competent way of reading the reports but I wonder if I can boil what I read into how much FoMoCo actually made on the sale to me of a $40,000.00 MKC assuming the reported 7.2% operating margin of all global activity Does this mean $2880.00 from the sale to me is that simple or is their true "profit" some lesser amount due to things I simply do not understand BTW on a purchase of this magnitude I have no problem with a company making a fair profit and staying viable and employing people.... $3000 "profit" does not seem unreasonable to me

Back in 2001 and again in 2004 when shopping for a F250 4x4 LB and F350 CC LB 4x4 the dealer had some neat spread sheet to attempt to show the PS diesel upgrade cost (+/- $5900 at the time) paid for it self in fuel economy over time. IIRC the comparison was against the base V8 @12MPG vs the 6.0L PS @ 16 mpg When I pointed out the $5900 at some percent interest over the life of the loan increases the true cost of the Diesel and you must include periodic maintenance (oil, filters etc) the salesman was clueless that a customer might actually think of the total cost of ownership Fact is, if the price differential would have been a more reasonable split, I never would have bothered with the math of it and probably got the diesel based on my typical 10+ years of use....but in my case with 80~90% of the power, significantly less periodic maintenance cost, only a 4 mpg difference with diesel costing $.55 more per gallon, the $510 V10 option made more sense. The only real hit I took was the 3 or 4 family vacations a year with a 19,000Lb TT in tow dropped my MPG to 7~9 So far for the life of this truck she averaged 13.7mpg doing light hauling duty (under 5000LBs) and daily work site visits Only above normal cost of engine maintenance was my attempt at spark plug replacement @65,000 miles yielded a broken plug and not wanting to break them all I took it in a paid $425 for a plug change. At 58,000 miles she need a front seal in the differential ($125) Fifth Ford truck since 1968 all kept over 8 years and so far this work horse has been the least expensive to own despite the premium I paid for King ranch (semi) luxury Did I mention that I love the 3v V10 415 cube engine....grin

Every adjustment to minimum wage that was not the employers idea, results in less hours for all employees, fewer employees, and inflation for most consumers of the product or service, thus negating any gain by the employee I have never seen an example of government meddling in business employee contract negotiation that is a win win for both parties
  11. There are more than one 2015 MKC with similar water issues and long painful resolution for the owner and dealer

I loved the power, smooth engine, lower recurring maintenance and nearly equivalent fuel economy Was very sad to see that engine option dropped in the F250 F350 segment It was interesting to me to see a LOT of V10 powered pumps and generators during Hurricane Katrina

I suspect the Pope may be speaking from a limited view of reality Where he is from and the culture of no private firearms has an impact to his thinking Add in the fact that most of us here are not real cognizant of all the manufacturers feeding the desire for tinpot wackos all around the globe creating miniature armies and need LOTs of weapons and ammo I suspect his daily briefing includes a bit about the weapons trade into the conflict countries killing a bunch of Christians I would love to have the contract for all the AK ammo just shot in the air every day by nut case middle easterners happy or mad about something
  15. As I age being blinded at night annoys me more and more despite learning to never stare into oncoming headlights off topic and I hate most government regulation but some of the aftermarket bulbs are ridiculously bight on low beam

I ordered 2016 MKC on 17 June, the car was built on 6 July and on the way to me here in central Texas, eta first week of Aug Over the last 25 years I have always ordered the exact mix of things on the cars and trucks and waited for the vehicle to show up Never have had a significant problem with any of the last 5 vehicles 2000 Escort, 2002 Ranger, 2001 F250 LB 4x4, 2005 F350 King ranch 4x4, 2010 Focus The trucks for me, and the micro cars for my graduating children This will be my first Lincoln and first with an infotainment system At 60 I am expecting a learning curve so I lurk about learning from all you who own the MKC

  24. I have the first year 5R110 auto tranny in my King Ranch F350 and was delighted with the upgrade over the 4R100 in my previous F250 4x4. Mine has been flawless for the last ten years. Tow haul mode and adaptive learning was a great improvment However, the first year had a lot of truck in the shop for extended wait for back ordered part (some light weight plastic piece in the tailshaft area) But I started to notice (on various forums) most of the trucks were used in the north as snow plows. In the discussions I surmised that very few snow plow operators know that you NEVER directly shift a moving vehicle from drive to reverse as you are still going forward.....Yes Ford could have made it BULLET proof to take that abuse. Based on how I read the warranty guide, owners manual, I personally think Ford should NOT have covered that abuse, but from what I read they did The track record is good on ford truck trannies from my customer perspective. I would not be worried about the new 10 speed one when it appears
