The EV4 sedan is horrid and should have never been made for production, however the hatchback is much better looking and I could see it doing quite well. The EV2 is the best of the bunch though.

When I looked up other performance sedans, there wasn’t much out there besides top trims. I don’t think I could name one that isn’t a top trim. We’ve already seen articles where ford was benchmarking the Cadillac black wing, so that is who ford thinks the competition is. Now, they could come in drastically lower in price with a base model, but that’s a tough sell to shell out $45k on a sedan and not get all the bells and whistles. Especially with accord and Camry starting at 28k and fully loaded models are less than $40k. My guess is that ford won’t offer a base trim. I’m thinking the equivalent of the mustang coupe premium trim will be the lowest they go, but still offer both engines. With ford wanting to maximize profits and seeing what the competition is charging, I still don’t see this starting less than $50k. Hope I’m wrong!

I don’t have anything against a mustang sedan, I just don’t get the point. Ford moved away from sedans for a reason. Most sport sedans seem to be souped up versions of “regular” sedans. They are also usually luxury vehicles because that’s really the only market that will pay big bucks for a sedan. More affordable sport sedans like the Kia stinger haven’t faired too well. I think you guys are way off on price too. The focus RS would be nearly $50k in today’s dollars. Here are some other sport sedan prices: Civic Type R - $46k CT5-V black wing - $99k CT4-V black wing - $64k integra type s -$54k tlx type s - $59k m3 - $77k Audi rs7 - $130k Corolla GR - $40k panamera - $105k elantra N - $35k I’m guessing starting price would be $50-55k and even higher with the v8. I don’t think there will be many buyers at those prices. I kinda hope Mach 4 doesn’t stand for 4 door. I hope it stands for 4wd and that this is the off road mustang we’ve heard rumors about. That one is even more pointless than the mustang sedan but it would be a lot cooler.

Didnt the Diesel Brothers do something with Nikola? I remember something like they bought the Badger or something like that. I always thought it was a nice looking truck.

Ford Sales January 2025 - Down 6.3% Overall
T-dubz replied to rmc523's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Most of the big % changes can be explained. Bronco has the 25’s coming out and the 24’s have some good discounts on them. The Mach e had some pretty big rebates. Maverick has supply issues. Ranger had supply issues last year. The only two I can’t really figure out are the explorer and transit. Explorer just had a refresh with a much improved interior. Whats its issue? Transit with a 45% drop, what’s the deal there? -
Ford Considering Off-road Supercar

Are they talking about something crazy like the local motors rally fighter? Or something more sedated like the 911 Dakar? -
Ford Wants to Be 'The Porsche of Off-Road'
T-dubz replied to Sherminator98's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I’d like to see more of this as well. I’d also like to see trims like the rattler on the f150 go other models, though maybe pick a different name. This would give people a more affordable off-road model to choose from. low end - rattler mid - tremor high end - raptor -
Ford December/Q4/2024 Sales Results

I like rtr. I think this will be good for the ecoboost. Lower trims usually don’t look as good as the higher trims and this fixes that. -
Another issue that may or may not be a problem is you no longer need a sports car to go fast. EVs can accelerate faster while still providing all the space, functionality, and creature comforts of a SUV, truck, or sedan. And today’s ICE trucks and SUVs are not too far off from sports cars from a few years ago. F150, escape and explorer can all go 0 to 60 in mid to upper 5 second range.

The ecoboost is irrelevant since I was comparing prices of the GT. But an ecoboost mustang started at 27k in 2021 and is now 32k. The rav4 was used to show that not all vehicles had a massive price increase. But you can do the same with the corvette. It had an msrp of 61k in 2021 and a msrp 70k now. The mustang GT price increased 38% while the corvette increased 15%.

The mustang being impractical has been a constant since it was first made, that’s not the reason. Adjusted for inflation, the mustangs price is roughly the same as 20 years ago. This does not mean that price can’t still be a deterring factor. Not everyone’s wages have increased at the same rate as inflation, so it could be more expensive to those consumers. It also doesn’t help that the price has increased so rapidly. In 2021 the mustang GT had an msrp of 36k. It’s now almost 50k. That’s a huge jump in a relatively short timeframe. For comparison, the rav4 had a starting price of 26k in 2021 and is now 28k.

According to this article, Ford doesn’t think pricing is an issue. https://www.motor1.com/news/747170/ford-mustang-priced-right-despite-low-sales/ I would beg to differ. Any article about low mustang sales is filled with comments about its price. Sharing a platform with another vehicle could help lower the price. A Lincoln or thunderbird could be options. An alternative could be something like the Toyota Supra/bmw z4 deal. Wouldn’t a Camaro/mustang deal be crazy?

If EVs are unaffordable without the tax credit, then they were always a losing option. Hopefully now losing that $7500 will force automakers to innovate and make them cheaper. Not sure how I feel about cutting the infrastructure money. The problem with EVs and their infrastructure is that they are always advancing. Do we want to spend billions just to have the infrastructure be outdated in a couple of years and then redo it all again? Think moores law.

Hmmm, not sure what their design inspiration was for this. The front looks chinese, the side looks like a 2000’s era GMC suv with its square wheel arches, and the interior looks like a 1970’s truck. I think the overall shape is good, but I’ve said this a 1000 times, Hyundai/kia always seem to put one or two styling elements in their vehicles that keep them from having broad appeal.

If ford’s engineering dept isn’t cutting it, then that whole dept needs to be revamped. Hopefully this skunkworks is only temporary and the lessons they learn get passed on to engineering to right the ship so to speak. I disagree. I think this forum represents the auto-buying public quite well with a wide range of views. Look at all the disagreements we have in every topic 🤣. I think everyone here is open to the idea of EVs. My personal view is that they are perfect for urban families with multiple vehicles. If you are single, live in rural areas, or drive long distances often, an EV makes things more complicated. They aren’t quite ready for prime time yet. Once solid state batteries are common place and infrastructure is built out more, more people will be willing to take a chance on EVs.

Anyone else see the incentives for mach e on ford’s plan pricing website? That’s gotta be a typo right?

The best part of this is the brass trim on the exterior. I think that’s kinda cool. I like the long hood, the exaggerated wheel haunches and even the headlights. But the new logos are terrible. Something doesn’t seem right about the rear c pillar. The rear and front grille are terrible. The angular design is also going to severely date this thing (think Cadillac XLR). There’s so many iconic fastbacks with long hoods out there that it was always going to be an uphill battle for this thing to compete.
