You have no idea how it feels to help build a product that generates literally billions in sales for FoMoCo and open up a sales brochure for the Ford line-up and apparently your car doesn't exist. The FUCKING ASSHOLES launched the 500 and STATED IN THE SALES MATERIAL THAT IT'S GOT A BIGGER TRUNK THAN A CV. I'm a grown man who's worked for Ford for 23 years and late at night I think about this shit and CRY! Whats wrong with these people , the've got a unique product (BOF Large Car) that could be pushed on many fronts , NG , ethanol . saftey you name it I'm beside myself as to the reasoning . Surrender the market share and you'll never get it back, but I guess that doesn't matter. My family has 53 years at STAP and I'll always bleed Ford blue but it is SOOOOO Disheartining

Shouldn't be suprised the CV vanishing from Ford's website I suppose, the Vic vanished from the advertising department well over a decade ago, and vanished from dealer showrooms and lots in general when Y2K was ERgoing to kill us all. Way forward Ford! :finger:

Those of us who want a new CV will have to wait until some program cars and Hertz and Avis rentals come back on the market used in a few months with 15000 miles on them.. they will be typically LXs loaded, but no sunroof...otherwise you will have to get a fleet # and smooze a new one thru some agency...the FORCE be with you. And of course the GM no longer has a HPP or the LSE available....wah wah wah...

Keep building the Grand Marquis - I'm 41 and won't drive anything else.

I'm on my 2nd one, and will buy a 3rd one brand new before the old girl is put down. Of course, Ford has been trying to put the Panther away for at least a decade - at this point they hope neglect will finally kill it.

Gee, for $18,000 after rebates I can get a base Grand Marquis, or a Milan, comparably equipped but with a 4 cylinder.

Wonder which one I should get?

Although I personally prefer the Crown Vic, I think it's sound marketing to give Mercury a unique product. Now about some marketing, period?

(I'm glad to see that the GM is still available with the handling package (duals, etc.). Now why the heck won't my local Mercury dealer order any in stock with that option? )

The Crown has made the jump to fleet with both feet...it seems like this is Fords' way to promote the new Taurus. Now....about the fleet CV...make it the ultimate bad ass cop car...put the most powerful engine ya got under the hood...and for all the taxi's...how about a 4.2 V6 with a Hybrid setup...should be no problems with room/packaging. If the V6/Hybrid is a durable success in this package.....then it could migrate to Grand Marquis and light trucks.

As for a car that you could walk into a dealership and buy....the Crown is dead, long live the Crown! Hell, if they have relegated CV to the fleets....they should take the Crown Victoria name off it and rename it the LTD for taxi and rental, and 500 for police. (or vice versa) Save the Crown Vic name for an upscale future product. Don't let the Crown Victoria name be sullied by "fleeting" it....it is what drove the value of the previous Taurus into the ground.

It seems I should be able to add an 08 P72 to my taxi fleet for evaluation.

If I decide to do that will I have to work with *Ford Fleet*, or can any Ford dealer deal with my wishes. It looks to me like the only way to equip (or purchase) my evaluation unit would be thru FF? Did I answer my own qustion? :sos:

This is sad. I have had a Crown Vic / Panther in my life as long as I can remmber, from riding in my Dads CV company cars, all the way to now. I'm sad to see the CV go. Of course we can still pick up used Units from Hertz and Budget....who knows for how long. I like the styling of the CV better, don't really care for the Chevy Uplander nose on the Grand Marquis.

I'll keep the Marauder as my garage queen until further notice...... Thank you STAP for building this car. As some of you remember, my Dark Toreador Red Marauder Saved my life......Here's her replacement....

Not to mention wrong wheel drive and unibody. Many a ninny would be too quick to tell you to get a Milan which is the scary thing....

Great looking marauder love the color. Who knows maybe Ford might bring it back lets pray. Even the name Marauder alone commands respect. I have a couple that drive around my area both are black the color of yours is top notch.

I hear your pain guys but the reality is that besides government and fleet sales, very few buy the panthers anymore.

Information from fleet national on 2006 vehicle purchases had the Crown Victoria running at over 85% fleet sales - the bulk of those to government fleets. Unlike the previous Taurus which was over 90% to daily rentals, Ford will continue the Crwon Victoria as a specialist car for Police and government fleets, for now.

As you say, the Grand Marquis is available to retail but at last reports, it was bleeding 47% to daily rental sales - an area Ford is actively reducing. Rather than make any rash decisions in the middle of restructuring, Ford is going with a small make over hoping this placates most buyers.

The Fivehundred/Taurus is an enigma, it didn't sell well because it was under powered and under advertised - Ford obviously doesn't know which was worst. So in their wisdom, they renamed it Taurus, increased its power and gave it a 6-speed auto trans. With the help of a strong advertising campaign, they are certain that the sluggish sales will be dramatically improved. That's fine if it works but what happens Taurus if sales are still slow?

With GM set for major rollout of unitbody zeta architecure in the next two years, Ford is chosing to stay the course with FWD and relegating RWD to a niche product. While it can be argued that FoA can supply a product in conjunction with Mustang to cover the RWD voids, will that erode the preference for Ford in the eyes of Police departments wh0 still like/prefer the Crown Victoria?

As an outsider, I see that the biggest error Ford has made is a failure to project their plans for RWD platforms in North America, ceeding any developments to the realm of gossip like these forums. They should have come out two years ago and announced long term plans and intentions for plants like STAP and not keep people hanging by a thread wondering about the future.

Either way STAP workers should have been told whether a switch to new product is coming or if the panther is the end of the line.

That is the real tragedy.

Didn't mean to offend.

Yes you can get your P72 and your long wheelbase P70, but you have to have a fleet #. No more new Town Cars until December when production ramps up at STAP.

GMarquis has no HPP or LSE listed in order guide.. Air suspension is a stand alone option..2008...Production started 7May 07... Have no fear, the loaded LX CV P74s will be available out of rental fleets in a few months.

Do you know what the "convenience package" or the "comfort package" contains for 2008?

Is there a 2008 GM ordering guide available?

Thanks!

The answers to both questions are available at www.fleet.ford.com you can get most of the stuff without signing in... For the PI.. for 2008... The comfort and convenience package is the Cruise, single CD player and power driver's seat...and yes it is available...and you get the tire pressure monitor N/C and you pay extra for the ashtray and lighter and yes.... you can get a remote door opener without a keypad...more extra moolah... check em out... The GM has one less color and no HPP and No duals only the air ride as an option...trucks heading to FL with them as I type...

So no more dual exhaust on the Panthers entirely or just Town Car? What now is the standard rear gear, still the 2.72? Is the 3.27 optional? I sure am glad I bought mine when I did.

Better said that the GM has no hpp....only air susp, thus 2.73 and single exhaust

Crovic is Fleet only and the P71s have duallies and 3.27 and 3.55s all others have 2.73s and single exhaust

Town Car is down for 6 or more months for the move to STAP

tire pressure monitors are std for CroVic and GM.
