ExplorerDude
Just as the Topic Title says: Should Ford sell off Volvo and it's stake in Mazda? Given the current economic climate, is it worth it to sell them or hold them a little bit longer?
FordBuyer
Just as the Topic Title says: Should Ford sell off Volvo and it's stake in Mazda? Given the current economic climate, is it worth it to sell them or hold them a little bit longer? Come on guy? Would you like to try and sell your home right now in this market? Everyone acts like these are normal times with credit market frozen and everyone hodling off on purchases. Right now, you just pray you have enough money to make it through the storm. ExplorerDude
Well that's my point, luckily they have assets to sell off but who would buy those assets now? I really don't think they could get for Volvo what they paid for them back in 1999.
jonas1022
No telling what is the ultimate best choice in the current climate. Personally, I think they should sit pat with what they have. Mazda and Volvo are far from bad, maybe not the best money earners at the moment. Should things improve, it will be a good thing to have at least one premium brand in the stable. Like mentioned above, they won't get what they paid for Volvo in 99.
jpd80
Ford were very lucky that Tata bought Jaguar/Land Rover when they did, It's too hard to sell Volvo at the moment, better to reel in costs and bash them into shape. Volvo and Mazda provide Ford group with a lot of valuable technical expertise and losing that is probably strategically dangerous at the moment. Better if Ford can reel in Nth American losses. If USA fires into positive or break even, Volvo's losses can be managed and remedied. Edited November 13, 2008 by jpd80
