Deanh
No car I have ever owned has had it. The closest thing to it is the small strip of rubber on the nose of my Mazda6 below the bumper cover to avoid curb rash on steeper approach angles. every car I have ever owned has one or the other, and based solely on that the unpainted plastic is DEFINITELY easier to maintain and deals with "damage" better..... Deanh
interesting...just ran around the lot, curiousity got the better of me, EVERY Ford has some sort of protection, whether it be running boards ( SUV's), rubberized paint ( most sedans ) or plastic lowers....most subtle is the flex, the rubberized paint is underneath... Well that's the only way to do it with the doors having the rocker panels included.

Thats the most common. Its a really really heavily textured thing on some cars. Toyotas in particular have a very textured chip protection on them. Fords do too, and even Subaru used to have it on the front of the hood. It wasnt textured though but if you did get a chip in it somehow, you will see that its ungodly thick. Its basically a rubberized coating, then its painted over. Go ahead guys, look around your rocker panels or the very bottom parts of your fenders. Youll see a very textured paint down on those parts.
