mettech
Just how much quicker (0-60 and/or 1/4 mile) is the 3.7L Mustang with the 3.31 axle and how does it affect the MPG?
NickF1011
Marginal on both counts.

NickF1011
Agree... but looking for a slightly more quantitative reply..:shades: Don't have any hard figures, but I would say likely no change to city fuel economy, perhaps a drop of 1 mpg highway. You'd be looking at maybe a couple tenths of a second at most in the 1/4 mile.
TomServo92
My Mustang has the 3.31 gears. I can't give you any acceleration numbers (other than it's damn peppy!) but my mileage hasn't suffered in comparison to the EPA numbers. DC_Dave
Agree... but looking for a slightly more quantitative reply..:shades: -1.5 highway +1 city 3.31 is 21% lower than 2.73 and a lot quicker to 60. I dont have the numbers, but I would guess. .4s

TomServo92
I just refilled the Mustang after a mostly highway (@ 75mph) road trip and it averaged 26mpg. I'm sure if I had dialed it back a little on the speed, I would have gotten 27-28mpg. My old Acura Integra 4 banger didn't get any better than that. akirby
My old Acura Integra 4 banger didn't get any better than that. What year/model? I had a 86 2 door blue hatchback manual. Loved that car!
TomServo92
What year/model? I had a 86 2 door blue hatchback manual. Loved that car! 2000 Green hatch. I loved it until an F250 t-boned me at an intersection. It never drove the same. I traded it for a 2004 Mazda6.

Barely any MPG loss, maybe 1-2 city. But you'll definitely see an increase in 0-60 time. It'll be noticeably more aggressive off the line
SG2013GT
From what I've heard, the 3.31 gears are the only way to go with the 3.7.
ruteger
Are the 3.31 gears available as a stand-alone option on the base 2013 Mustang 3.7L?
TomServo92
Are the 3.31 gears available as a stand-alone option on the base 2013 Mustang 3.7L? I believe it's only available in the V6 Performance Package.
ruteger
I believe it's only available in the V6 Performance Package. Wasn't the 3.31 axle ratio previously (like 2012) available as a stand-alone option in the base Mustang?
MJB3
Wasn't the 3.31 axle ratio previously (like 2012) available as a stand-alone option in the base Mustang? Yes it was. According to the Canadian Mustang Order Guide it is available as a stand alone option up there on the 2013. I had my dealer check on the availability several times as I was ordering my 2013 V6 Premium but he said that he could not order the 3.31. Edmunds website also shows it as an option but, as I said, I was unable to order it.

Don't much feel like coughing up $2k for the Performance Package (esp the 'summer only' tires) just to get the 3.31. I'd have been interested in a strippo base 2013 (which isn't that stripped, with the now standard HID headlights and smoke LED tailights) 3.7L / six-speed combo with the 3.31 as the only option for a nice, budget hotrod. FireMedic1343
Love the MPG's on the V6!
trickflow514
I would think if you are getting the v6 then definitely get the 3.31's . Don't be worried about hwy mpg but if you are then instead of doing 75mph do 70mph and you will get the same mpg.... Especially if these things come with 6 speeds I think you won't have to worry.
