F250 Posted June 13, 2013 Share Posted June 13, 2013 It looks like these holes hold/receive the crossmembers that support the bed based on the size, shape, and spacing. Typically, these are above the bed so this new construction would drop the bed a few inches. Not clear but holes do not appear to be for weld through crossmember. DearbornDerek Posted June 14, 2013 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Note huge openings (holes) cut into side of boxed frame in the same picture. Weight savings? Not sure about fully boxing the frame then cutting the sides open. That is the hole where a bracket would be welded on to connect the upper shock to the frame on the current model. When I was working on the 09 launch, I was told by an engineer that it was cheaper to cut new holes then it was to remove them. True or not that is a left over hole from current model.
