Stentgraft95
I have a 3.7 AWD and sometimes while coasting to an intersection it feels as if if the car is slightly braking without my foot anywhere near the brake pedal. I've confirmed this by hitting the neutral button while coasting to a stop and the car definitely frees up once I do this. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? bobo69
Engine braking?
akirby
If you're coasting downhill and tap the brakes it will engage the engine for braking so you don't have to ride the brakes. Tapping the accelerator should undo it.
fordmantpw
It's called ADFS: Active Deceleration Fuel Shutoff. When coasting, the engine shuts off the injectors completely to save fuel. It feels like greatly enhanced engine braking, or like you have your foot on the brake. It subside when you put it in neutral because there is no engine braking and the injectors fire to keep the car running. On slight inclines in town in our Flex, I have to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep it from slowing down too much. It's the 'new normal'.
