matthewq4b
Repealing of the Chicken tax is going to transform the US truck market forever. The winners will be Chyrco/Fiat and Ford, to a lesser extent, Mercedes, VW, Toyota, and maybe Hyundai. Fiat will be able to match Fords Transit line with products in house and from Iveco. Ford of course wins with being to import the Transit with out having to skirt the chicken tax. Mercedes will be able to bring over the excellent Vito series of vans and possibly the Citan. Some MB dealers are pairing their dealerships with a MB light truck dealer next door such as David Morris has done here so their are poised to take advantage of it. At best MB will be a niche player. VW has a rather large van line up that mirrors the Transit line up but not sure they would be able to capitalize on it as they don't quite seem to understand the truck segment at all in NA. Toyota already has Hino here so they could benefit from it as well. Hyundai is a wild card they have a large truck lineup both light and heavy and have proven to be able to adapt quite quickly to the NA market so they may end up being a surprise in the long run. I'm not sure how this would affect the medium/heavy segment. We are starting to see some euro influences in the segment with streamlining and super singles on drive axels and even some trailers. Could we see Fiat/Chyco- Ram move back in to the Medium and maybe even the heavy segment utilizing Iveco underpinnings? It is going to be interesting to watch it play out regardless. AGR
WowNot sure if you're agreeing with him or not. Chevy, Toyota, and Honda will soon be fielding compact hatchbacks, leaving Nissan and Chrysler as the major holdouts. About 40% of Focus sales are hatchbacks, and the ratio of Jetta to Golf is about 2:1. In the past, it was often closer to 4:1.

Some people cannot think outside of their own pocket book. So to them they believe that people will only buy what they themselves will buy. This is a blind side. Because the popular products of today may not be the popular product of tomorrow.
