IUEC135ELEVATOR
Changed out the roof top clearance lights from the original lights with clear lenses to ones with tinted lenses. Figured I would post some pics just in case anyone was wondering what is involved with changing them. Took 1 hour to swap. Plastic parts on new lights looks better quality than fords oem lights.....LED board on ford lights looks higher quality than the aftermarket ones. Bought 2 extra sets of aftermarket lights so I will always have matching lights for years to come as they fail/burn out. (Buy extra and have spares/backups to ensure that they never go bad......IF YOU DONT buy spares it is almost guaranteed one will go bad as soon as they change the design of the light and discontinue that model....???) ( if they hold up really well and last a long time I'll let you know, if they start burning out I won't even mention them?) There are many different companies that make lights for the existing Ford clearance light holes and connectors. My purpose for posting this was to show people what is involved with taking the old ones off. I did not know what to expect taking these off and replacing them. I really thought I would be fishing wires through the roof or having to pull headliner down to get to connectors. So I was very pleased to see that the connectors actually plugged right into the lights much simpler than what I was expecting. txsd
Did you have to get through any waterproofing sealant when taking of the originals and did you seal the new ones at all?
FirstFord22
@IUEC135ELEVATOR keep us posted. When I get mine I was thinking about swapping them out with white, but I wasn’t sure how involved it would be; you’ve answered that question. In the 6 or so months it’ll take to get my truck, you should have a pretty good idea how well they hold up. Thanks for the post

The factory ones and the aftermarket have a medium density foam with adhesive on both sides. There is no kind of rubber or silicone sealant Under The Lights. Both OEM and the aftermarket have a rubber washer that goes under the screw head when you put it through the light.
787Toolman
I bought a set of amber lens lights for my 2017 Platinum, but I never attempted to cut the holes in the roof thinking a rectangular hole is a bitch to make, need to punch it out and that too is a bitch, so I skipped it and moved onto to something else and the lights just collect dust. My 2022 has the lights but the new style have clear lenses with amber LEDs instead of amber lenses with clear LEDs. I may change mine out to something else after I see how they look at night. That’s my thought as well. I was also considering purchasing the lighted F250 side badges depending on the complexity to change them out
NedFletcher
I really wanted clearance lights but I couldn't get over the worry about a leak. How well do they typically hold up? Are you supposed to replace the adhesive foam under then every certain period of time?
IUEC135ELEVATOR
I have never had clearance lights leak on any truck I have ever had over last 20 years ( door jambs yes, firewall/cowl yes, third brake light yes but roof clearance lights never)
Pauljbouda
Looks good…wish I would have added the lights on my build
Gharri30
Ohh I like those tinted lenses. I'll definitely keep an eye out for how they hold up for you.
Misnjak
So I’m a bit confused; I order the roof marker lights on the bios of my lariat 250; do they come amber or will it be white and led since all other exterior lights on order are led? winkzoot
It’s a clear lens with an amber light.
