CBears
So, got my train car number. Used the Norfolk Southern tracking phone service. My new favorite thing to do by the way. Most recent status was “departed on flat car”. Does anyone know what that means? I’ve got a mental image of my poor truck sitting on one of those flat train cars covered in hobos and graffiti while the train flings things at it at 80 mph for 800 miles. ? Anyone know for sure what this means? Are the trucks in some sort of shipping container or something? Thanks in advance. westernsky
It means they didn’t strap it to the top of one of those round liquid cars. Consider yourself lucky……

Can’t imagine them going just on an open flat car or maybe I just don’t want to.
NH_Bulldog
Maybe it is the new Ford program to ease the assembly backlog, they just ship you the frame first and all the other pieces and parts follow for you to put it together yourself like Ikea furniture. Actually, the Johnny Cash song "One Piece at a Time" could very well be more accurate. All we can do is try to keep a positive attitude considering everything we have been through Edited April 1, 2022 by NH_Bulldog

NH_Bulldog
Flat car may not be so bad. I just saw a video of an autorack going under a low bridge and peeling the roof off a bunch of them and destroying every vehicle on the upper deck of the railcar. Forderorder
Flat car does not mean it is not enclosed. This one says "Vehicular Flat" and in the photo you can see that it has sides and a roof: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1819339
