This doesn't make sense. It does in China as this size is probably a better fit for previous Edge buyer needs, it’s an inch wider and four inches more wheelbase. I’m thinking that the tooling and modules for larger CD4 version is coming into play (scales of economy for Ford manufacturing?). Helps to keep in mind that Explorer will become an EV in 18 months and Ford China is probably not planning to sell the CD6 Explorer until 2035 like Ford US is planning to do... So Edge L is the ICE replacement for Explorer while Explorer will move on as EV in China. Don't forget, Ford also has Equator which is also the same size. So 3 same size SUV, at least for now. It will change in 2024 when the Explorer EV comes out. Equator (value) Edge (mainstream) Explorer (premium, soon EV) Edited February 27, 2023 by bzcat

It will change in 2024 when the Explorer EV comes out. Equator (value) Edge (mainstream) Explorer (premium, soon EV) The Edge L is not an ICE replacement for the Explorer because they belong to different price segments. The Explorer is marketed as a more premium "traditional" SUV, while the Edge L is more like the 3-row wagon version of the 2-row coupe-like Evos. The Explorer was refreshed for 2023 in China (it has its own thread somewhere here), and it's more premium than the North American/International Explorer. In China, it's not always size that dictates a vehicle's segment. This is the reason you have more affordable models sold alongside more premium models in the same size-segment. Examples: The Focus and the Escort which are both C-segment cars, and the Escape, Territory & Equator Sport, which are all C-segment SUVs. PS: Leaked image of the upcoming Explorer Timberline for China. Edited February 28, 2023 by AM222
