2025 Explorer vs 2024 Grand Cherokee L

Recommended Posts

The Ford with 400 HP gets to 62 MPH in low 5s while Jeep with 293 HP requires about 8 seconds, yet writer doesn’t complain about Jeep being underpowered by comparison, but states 300 HP 2.3L Ford standard engine would likely be inadequate?  Seems a little  inconsistent to me.  Also, his comment about giving Pentastar engine 40 or 50 more HP is out of touch with reality.

“Still, the twin-turbo V6 is the only engine I would consider for the Ford, the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder found in the rest of the lineup two few cylinders and not enough grunt for a rig this size, in my opinion.“

To be fair, he does also say in the next sentence "the same applies to the Grand Cherokee L.....if Jeeps is going to drop the Hemi V8, it should give the V6 it more power."

In other publications, other reviewers have stated the 2.3L in the Explorer is more than what most people will need.  I'm sure it's still faster and more responsive than what the Jeep has to offer...

Even in the Bronco which is slightly smaller but roughly the same weight, I haven't heard people complain about it.

I think alot of people just need to compensate for their own insecurities and ask for stupid shit like a V8 in it when the V6s put out more power.

Latest reports state 2025 Explorer now has Mustang’s all-new 2.3L “MPC” EcoBoost, which replaces the previous 2024 Explorer 2.3L EB standard engine.  Just sharing information since everything that has been written will not necessarily apply.

Car and Driver stated the 2.3L EB should be plenty of power, though it’s not clear they tested the “all-new” 2.3L EcoBoost introduced in 2024 Mustang last year.  Ford appears to have rated the Explorer’s power and torque lower than when engine is installed in Mustang, but still matches 300 HP and 310 lb-ft of previous Explorer 2.3L EB.  Car and Driver refers to test data from a couple of years ago for 4-cylinder, so not the same engine even if results are likely very similar.

In any case, 2.3L easily beats Jeep Pentastar V6 in raw acceleration, not that average buyer does many 0-60 burnouts.

“The ST's boosted V-6 also is available in the Platinum (it was previously standard), with the alternative continuing to be a 300-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, which should be more than adequate for most users. Regardless of engine, all models now feature the previously optional Trailer Tow package and a 5000-pound towing capacity.“
