  1. One thing, Ford does not need to expand to medium duty class trucks, because they are already there. BTW, "what we have always done" means they will counter with improvements. GM still has no competitor to the F-750, Transit Connect, and the future Ranchero. Globally, GM has no competitor to the Cargo, F-Max, Transit Courier, and Transit Custom nor JMC's light truck line in China. GM is also losing their global mid-size truck partner as Isuzu is going with Mazda. GM could very well close down Thai production of the Colorado. The best of Ford always comes forward when it comes to trucks. They haven't messed it up in 20 years (referring to the sale of their NA heavy truck line to Daimler and European heavy truck to Fiat in the 90s.)

  2. Thunderbird should be a larger 4 seater. The 2 seat birds never sold well, even the retro birds. Being that the Mustang is 2 doors, the Tbird should be 4, preferably with Suicide or "coach" doors. Keep the Mustang drivelines intact, and you have a winning sedan.

  3. Mike Levine said it last Friday on twitter and that same night the loading dock next to the plant was full of railcars when I rolled into work at 5:30pm.

  4. That's an intriguing thought. I have no idea what a new form factor would be, but it would have to be something that justified the name Thunderbird. Hope it happens, it'd be a pity to let the name die. Even people not familiar with cars usually know what a Thunderbird is.

  5. stop....unless you want your laws stipulated by crazy states youd have more appreciation for the reasoning behind the electoral college....a US governed by California would be.....leavable.

  6. I say kill CAFE... If liberals want more efficient vehicles, then they can put their money where their mouth is and only buy fuel efficient vehicles. Lead by example, not force. This is just another terrible example of a political party using the power of government to restrict free trade and dictate what we can and can't purchase. We should all be able to buy an H2, or a V10 Dodge Viper if we so wish, and can afford to throw down the moola.

  7. I agree. I wonder if the market for the T-Bird has come and gone. I’d love to see a 2-seater, but I got to believe making a business case for a 2-seater would be difficult. As for a 4-seater, you stick four doors on it, and you have another sedan which, seemingly, fewer and fewer buyers want every year. And a 2-door coupe? That would be my choice, but they’d sell even less. But I hate to see the Thunderbird name die. Such a rich nameplate, with great memories for those who grew up in the 50’s and 60’s. The original ’55-’57 2-seater, the ’58-’60 Squarebirds, the ’61-’63 Bullet Birds, the ’64-’66 Flair Birds, and the ’67-’69 Glamour Birds, all featured expressive, unique styling. By the 70’s, the T-Bird lost its identity and unique styling, and became nothing more than one more big Ford.

  8. It could be argued that the coalition of voters who delivered the White House to Trump in 2016 also delivered a mandate to do away with (or significantly reduce) the 2025 CAFE numbers. Whether or not that mandate is/was durable enough to survive successive elections may never be known. The 2018 election went down as a split decision so it's hard to read the tea leaves there. It'd be very interesting to see the results if the CAFE standards be put to a direct ballot referendum. Personally, I think there's far less support for them among the car-buying public than the regulators in DC think there is.

  9. As much as I'm annoyed with Ford's apparently inability to control the releases of its own product news lately, I'm also disappointed that every Bronco rumor goes from zero to ridiculous assumption in about one second. It's gonna be a mid-sized, off-road focused SUV with 300-ish hp. As much as I'm a member of the "save the manuals" club, a good auto isn't a deal breaker. I also have no real opinion on a hybrid version, as I wouldn't be likely to buy that variant.
