  1. maybe it got the same program as the Focus Duratec I4 that bumped it up MPG wise
  2. I don't know what Ford could get out of making 2 different Lincoln Sedans off the same platform, Its almost pointless to just have a stretched out MKS to become the Lincoln flagship. What would it offer over the MKS besides being bigger? It would need something different about it to make it worth while..maybe suicide doors? I see no point in the D386 if its just streched out and costs more then the MKS
  3. From what I understood it was Shelby that decided to go that route. The new cars have aluminum hoods I agree that the 96-98 Cobras did have an awesome looking hood..I wanted to get one for my 98 GT
  4. Someone who suppostly works for Shebly on themustangsource said it had to do with some issues with using a fiberglass hood like on the GT-H...prob BS for it costing too much, but I heard you could order it as an option.
  5. Did they do anything to the greenhouse on the Tahoe or Suburbain from the previous gen? I like the new Expy too..I wonder if the the next Explorer refresh will share a similar front end. Ford screwed that one up pretty good, but it looks like it got down the family grill look good on the Expy...hopefully they do the same for the F-150 also.
  6. And that same hole exisits between the Fusion/Milan and 500/Montego? I don't think so. Personally I think the Lincoln flagship should be RWD, but who knows
  7. I think the point the article was making is that the MKS will replace the outgoing TC by default since it will be the biggest/most expensive Lincoln you can buy. I don't see it as Lincolns Flagship at all
  8. When was that ever the plan? Everything I've read pointed towards a 10 year run of the C170 when it was first introed to the US Why didnt we get the C1? Because Ford was still amortizing the costs of the C170 in the States and will countine to do so till its replaced by the C2. It was Ford's intention to make a profit on the Focus, but well that remains to be seen.
  9. The Second Gen Ford Probe was far better looking then the 1st Model Though the LX model was pretty homey looking. As a side note, my sister Killed off the "Probe" and the "Cougar", since she owned the last year of each one was made. She owns an Explorer now..wonder if Ford will kill that off next :P
  10. Same place that its totally ridiculous to compare a 2+2 seat car to a 2 seat car. Both are totally different from one another, besides them be the Halo product for their division and they just happen to be "performance" cars
  11. Where can I get my 20K 4 seat Vette from also?
  12. And totally lose any abitily to fit anyone over 6ft in the drivers seat. I had a 98 GT and the 06 is worlds better Any suggestion on how to do this and still meet crash reglations and not have the chassie stiffness of a wet noodle like the Fox platform and make it affordible? What your suggesting is to make the car the size of a Focus. All cars have grown in size/weight over the years. Whens the last time someone bought a mustang for its MPG for crying out loud? The days of a Mustang weighing under 3K pounds is long gone. Check out some of the compact cars out there..the new Rabbit weighs 3K!
  13. guess you never seen a Lexus or Infinity for that matter...they share sheetmetal with their Nissan and Toyada brethern.
  14. I'm still failing to see how Ford Lincoln and Vovlo would make Ford any better off if they did go this route. Maybe Ford/Mercury/Mazda/Lincoln/Vovlo..... Plus I bet that Ford wouldnt get jack for Jag/Land Rover/Aston Martain anyways...plus why get rid of AM and LR, since they are profitible?
  15. I'll make the assumpution that the new 6 speed is cheaper and easier to put together vs the CVT transmission with the MPG differences being negitabile.
  16. And the reason for that is management totally dropped the ball in the mid 1990's, when Ford went to make $27 billion in 1997/98.
  17. Taurus: 111,922 Would be, should be gone. Modified sales: -111,922 Reading is fundamental
  18. Huh? Its August 2006, more like a year and half....And they never specified if it was CY or MY release dates. I see no problems with the MkS launching next Fall as a 08 Model. Except the lack of a V8 in it
  19. Why spend more money on a product that doesnt make any/barely money to start with? Your not going to spend your way out of debt with building a C1 based Focus in the states. As for the more expesive myth then the C170, uh have you seen what Ford has done with the C170 since it launched? For one thing they made it cheaper then the orginal models that launched in 2000. Not to mention that all the C1 based cars sold in the states have a much higher avg selling price then the Focus does. The current Focus is stuck in a B-car price point at a C car expenese. If Ford offered a loss leader B-car, the Focus could move up market and in price also, where they could make $$$ on it. Untill then it wont. wasn't that the point of Ford looking at a new Plant to build the C2 Focus in the Southern US? UAW is an impedament to making US plants more effecent also, requiring changes in working requirements and whatnot to make the plant more effencent. Why not? its far easier to make a "cheap" car more expesive then vise versa and not to mention that we'll be 2 generations behind if we didn't....
  20. Do you seriously think that the Focus, just going over to the C1 platform will single handly turn the company around? Come on, lets get a reality check right now. I'm starting to wonder if the Focus fananics are as bad as the Panther Mafia here. For the Record...No Single Platform will be enough for Ford turn the current corner its in now. If you want to see what a successful single platform gets you, just check out DCX and its almightly LX platform..and its recovery was about an inch deep. Ford has the right mindset on how to fix its problems. Unfuck whats wrong with the current Focus and then move it over to a new platform in 2010 and build it in a plant where they can make money on it if they decide to keep it in the States. Theres no way in hell a C1 will be sold in the US anytime before 2010.
  21. The only reason is why you think they are so great is because you can't get one. Its nearly the same situation as a Luxury car...drive a Mercedes or BMW and it just becomes another car. Hell i got a ride in a 7-series Taxi in Germany...ohhh makes me long for one now!
  22. Just because the C1 based Focus is better suited to UK tastes, that means that Americans will like it more then say the Mazada 3, which sells pretty well here?
  23. I've been seen the Compass commericals non-stop the past week or two on TV and they are annoying as fuck with the stupid bobbleheads in them. I nearly fell out of my seat when my GF said she liked the way it looked, and this is coming from a person who normally has impecable (though expesive) taste in cars. I nearly had to smack her
  24. Well also consider the fact that Ford was much in the same position over 25 years ago in the Early 1980's and if FOE wasn't there to bail out FoNA, we wouldnt even be having this conversation. FOE was in deep doo-doo in the 1990's...its a cycle and its one that Ford needs to fix.
  25. Mercury also appeals to people who would never drive a Ford..not to mention what would you do with all those Lincoln dealerships that don't have any large volume products to keep the doors open with? Mercury is cheap to keep around, but yet adds sales by under informed customers. The Fusion and Milan is great example of this..The Fusion is Hip and sporty and Milan is stylish and I feel very similar to what the Jetta offers, which is what market Mercury should be aiming at.
