  1. If Ford could afford it, I think they should put out some real concise advertising about the brand. Maybe start it out with a bunch of the good news and then "surprise" everyone at the end by revealing that all the good news was about Ford. Quality, Innovation.... make it exciting... make people feel proud that they drive a Ford. Here on the West Coast, it seems like there is some sort of stigma around owning a domestic car. This needs to change or the road ahead will be even more difficult.
  2. The problem with heating up a large patch of land like that is that you expend so much energy in the recovery of the oil that the energy you get from the oil recovered doesn't make it worthwhile. It's like buying a house that's worth less than the selling price. The only way I can see them doing this and getting a net benefit from the oil recovered is with Nukes....
  3. Getting back to the cost of oil.... here's a sobering slide show by Matthew Simmons (Energy Investment Banker) http://www.simmonsco-intl.com/files/Hedge%...0Conference.pdf
  4. Halo cars do help when it comes to positive press. A glowing review might be done on the top end (halo) verison of a model, even though the large majority of car buyers will go for something lower on the totem pole. The existence of a halo car alone brings up the prestige of the cars beneath it. The car buying public are not a bunch of bean counters, there is a lot of emotion rolled up into the process. B)
  5. Wonder what the reserve on this is???? The bid is $22,100 and it says the reserve is not met!!!
  6. They should just have different trim levels.... let the sales people do their job and up sell. Upgraded engine, suspension, leather... nav.... nice stereo.... all that extra stuff.... So they start at $11,500 and end up with something around $18k or so. Works on my wife everytime. Also, if you have a great car that all the media outlets review.... then you'll see something like Starts at $11,500..... as tested $21,590. And then they gush over the car......
  7. They're okay..... direct.... somewhat funny (in an infomercial sort of way....). It would probably generate some discussion, maybe enough for the car to stick in someone's mind. "I was going to choose between Camry or Accord, maybe I should check out the Fusion....." We can hope.
  8. I like to live on the edgeahhhhh..... Now, let's do something about the Edge commercials.
  9. Probably a good move on their part.... although I hated to see them do it. It somehow gave Ford more legitimacy to have AM under their umbrella. At least from a performance point of view. Hopefully this will allow Jag to do whatever it needs to do to move back up the luxury/performance ladder.
  10. Probably depends on what gas prices do as to whether or not the lack of the D35 will be a hindrance to the Fusion. As for considering Mazda in the "marketing" plans as equal to Ford, Mercury and Lincoln.... that makes no sense. Most people off the street have no idea that Mazda is in any way related to Ford. I just hope we see a plug in hybrid for all the green people out there.... something tells me we won't be first to market with that either though......
  11. Yeah.... it's a downer, but had to be done. Seems like it would have been worth more though. Hopefully, this will not have to be repeated with any of the other brands. Seems like this sale will allow Jaguar to move up a bit.
  12. Maybe the next BIG thing will be a mix of composite use and alternative fuels. Especially since Mullaly was at Boeing when the push from aluminum to composites occurred, maybe something similar could happen at Ford. I'm not an engineer, but if Aerospace can get 30% better performance.... maybe some of that can be adopted to the automobile sector??
  13. Exactly my point.... you're taking snapshots in specific locations. Pretty much comparing a weather forecast to an entire climate model. Look at the GLOBAL average temperature..... Salmon are spawning in the McKenzie River in the Northwest Territories and the local Inuits have no name for Salmon (they previously didn't spawn there). The arctic ice cap is over a METER thinner than 3 decades ago. That equals a drop in Arctic ice volume of about 40%. Over the last 100 years, the global sea level has risen 10 to 25 cm. But you're right.... we won't all be able to agree that it's happening and what is to blame. There are a lot of factors.
  14. This is pretty pathetic..... I've been a Ford guy all my life, but these aren't Bold Moves.... they're Desperate Moves. Stop spending money on this crap and bring some decent product to the showrooms.
  15. I wish they hadn't used the term "Global Warming". People seizing on that term can always bring up a day, week, month or whatever when a specific location will have cold weather. I think a more accurate term would be "Accelerated Climate Change". Average global temperatures have been increasing yearly, there is more CO2 in the atomosphere than at any time in the last 650k years. Glaciers are shrinking at accelerated rates across much of the Earth. I could go on.... Even if we tried to do something about it, we'd probably not succeed. Among other things, China is building a coal fired powerplant every week for the forseeable future. We're screwed.... next
