  1. Any emergency. And just one of those is enough to warrant me having my own vehicle. And I actually take pride in my vehicles. Publicly shared vehicles are going to be mistreated piles of garbage in no time. Have you seen what the seats of cabs and buses look like??
  2. Reverse headline: Ford 1/2 ton Ecoboost a hit. Did Ram miss the boat?
  3. It would be convenient in some instances for sure. But only really to augment existing owned vehicles for most people, not to replace them.
  4. I'm familiar with the same flow of people making a complete mess of Annapolis traffic on their way to the Maryland and Delaware shores.
  5. Plus they are always in the right place. You need to go somewhere? You don't have to wait for a vehicle to arrive. You have one there all the time: yours. Another example of how this only works in the city. To reach rural areas in any reasonable amount of time there would need to be a ton of these automated vehicles sitting out in the middle of nowhere that hardly ever get used or are constantly in motion to be in the right place at the right time, which is horribly energy-inefficient.
  6. I tend to agree. Could change my mind with some subtle exterior and performance tweaks though to give it a little more aggressiveness, so here's hoping they do a Red Label version that may appeal to me.
  7. The difference is whether or not a diesel F150 would bring in buyers that it's not already getting. The Flex and SHO do, whereas a diesel F150 may just take buyers away from those who would have opted for an Ecoboost F150 anyway.
  8. Beats me. The Edge has been one of Ford's most consistent sellers since its launch.
  9. Far as I'm concerned, the C-Max is a dud. Escape Hybrid would likely be able to sell at lower cost at higher prices.
  10. Depends how many unique parts it will require to use the C-Max's setup in the MKC. Plus if Lincoln determines there's enough demand for a hybrid small CUV, then I would think the folks at Ford would reach the same conclusion and want to be in on the party.
  11. It's as different as the current 5.0 is to the old Windsor motor. Is there still a naturally-aspirated 2.3 in the lineup though? Thought that was replaced by the 2.5 and/or 1.6/1.9EB's.
  12. Without price controls, that is inevitable when the government keeps handing out blank checks for kids to go to school. And the vocational schools here are a start, but I think they need to be instituted earlier and far wider.
  13. I could see how technology could be developed so they do. All you really need is a sensitive radar that examines the road surface for imperfections. I believe Land Rover already uses a related system to automatically adjust the suspension for road conditions. That said, I don't see how you would ever be able to entirely eliminate the need for manual input in at least some situations, especially in rural areas. This sort of tech will only ever really fully work in high density, high traffic areas where the vehicles would be able to operate with each other in a network.
  14. Because it's being spent in so many wrong ways. So much "education" in this country does nothing to actually prepare students for real life. People graduating who don't know how a credit card works. Don't know what compound interest is. Have no idea how savings accounts or investments work. Can't create a household budget. Don't know how to shop for healthy food. Just the simple skills needed to survive. Perhaps we should get that part figured out first before we go promising every boy and girl that he/she can be an astronaut if they work hard.
  15. Eh. Doubt it, unless there's an Escape going along with it.
  16. A good start would be to dispel this nonsense being peddled by the government that every child is capable of and deserves a college education. Some people are destined to be service and trade workers who shouldn't be put on the same educational path as engineers or doctors. Stress teaching them actual useful skills instead of theoretical mumbo jumbo that will never apply to their lot in life. One smaller improvement that should be done immediately nationwide (and will now be required in the Maryland high school curriculum next year) is to have a mandatory course on personal finance.
  17. Seems most of these futurists think people only live in densely populated urban areas, which is the only place many of their ideas would practically work. As for me, I'll own at least 2 cars as long as I'm able to drive.
  18. That doesn't count Canada either. Fairly certain Edge is being exported to China from OAP already as well. Volume won't be an issue for it.
  19. I don't think too many people are nostalgic about the 2.3T in the 80's Mustangs. There's a reason they were only offered for a few years. The 2.3 was going to exist whether the Mustang used it or not, as there is a need for it in other vehicles. More than likely, it just happened to check all the boxes that were needed in the Mustang also, so there it is.
  20. Eh, seems like an easy enough thing for them to add as a smokescreen.
  21. It's also a matter of making production simpler with an all-new model. Remove one entire body style and there's one less complex system that could potentially slow down the launch.
  22. 350 sounds a bit optimistic, given the 2.7 EB won't make much more than that. 320-330 would be my guess.
