  1. They usually mount in a freeze plug, or on a water pump like the one on my 3208 CAT motor. They keep the ani-freeze warm. You can turn the key and watch the temp guage jump as soon as the engine fires. A must for diesel powered engines.
  2. I can start my truck while sitting in a college classroom. Its really sweet when its 10 degrees out.
  3. I use to work evenings at CAP. It was 4 am on a 10 hour night that saw heavy rain turn to snow. I remote started my P71 Vic from inside, on my way out, to let it thaw out. I quickly noticed that many people could not get their doors to open because they were frozen shut. I remember one women was crawling through her hatch back to get inside her car. I was lucky to get a passenger door open and thought how cool remote start was on an icy night like this. A block heater would have been of no use to me that night.
  4. I've purchased 8 or 9 remote start/alarm kits off of Ebay over the years. All you need is a bypass module that plugs into the head unit and bypasses the chip in the key. I currently have Compustar units on my car and truck that will start the engine from over 5,000 ft. The remote has a pager on it and can tell you when it has started, or that the alarm is triggered. Total spent was around $250 but it takes me a whole weekend to install one. The Ford dealership installed unit is nothing more then the brand name Code Alarm with Ford stickers all over it. And yes, Ford keys are cheap on Ebay and easy to program your self.
  5. Looks like a gasket that falls off and gets sucked into the intake.
  6. Is that retail or jobber price? Employee cost is usually much less. Same thing with body/repair shop cost.
  7. But, how is any of that even important if the car does not get your attention in the first place?
  8. Jack Roush works closely with Ford, and is a great source for innovative ideas. I would like to see a natural gas conversion next.
  9. "We came away impressed with how normally the truck ran." http://blogs.thecarconnection.com/blogs/ma...ups-go-propane/
  10. I would like to see one in person like that. I see lots of new Focus's every day, all over my area. I'm waiting to see the new Fiesta in person before I trade up my 03 Taurus for that, :stats: or a Focus..
  11. Funny you should start this thread. I had an 09 SE parked next to me yesterday at the community college. It had those bad ass aluminum wheels on it, and the chrome do-dad on the side was absent. All of the rear windows had been darkly tinted aftermarket. I snapped this with my cell, It looked killer good.
  12. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Everything is a race to the next stop and go light anymore. I use to haul skids loaded with cast iron and know all about shifting and sliding loads. I learned quickly about a thing called finesse. Back in the day, a good friend of mine drove an 85 F-250 300-6 with a manual trans. It had an auxilary diesel tank in the bed, and a 7.5' Western pro plow, and I never heard him complained about power. I use to have a Ford F-7000 dump truck, powered by a 175hp 3208 CAT, that could pull a small church. When it comes to trucks, it's all about the torque.
  13. The national average means nothing to consumers in high volume areas like Chicago. Diesel has been at least a dollar more here for years. What do you think the price difference would be if more diesel cars are offered, and demand was even greater???? Your logic is flawed when it comes to Ford and diesel cars.
  14. Um, Lee, diesel averages close to a buck higher than 87 octane in and around Chicagoland.
  15. Sounds like a big fat truck LOL!
  16. I posted an article a while back regarding a consumer reports article on bad valve stems from China. http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index...showtopic=26041 Now the NHTSA is investigating 2007 Ford vehicles, that may have had the bad valve stems installed as OEM. :reading: http://blogs.consumerreports.org/safety/20...ire-valves.html
  17. That song gets me all nostalgic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swzK7Q8teSM
  18. If that is the case, then why is Honda also lagging in sales? People are just not buying big ticket items period. My brother in-law runs two used car lots, and his sales are also down. First the high cost of gas, and now the credit crunch, are contributing factors to what is going on.
  19. Ya, but engine sludge was standard equipment on several Toyota models in recent years.
  20. Its been played at least a bizzilion times here in Chicagoland. I'm a fan of the Fixx, but not of the Toy! Legendary quality
  21. People are using lo-jack more then ever on things like skidsteers and diesel aircompressors. Loot found via GPS IndyStar.com September 28, 2007 Tipton -- Police investigators used a GPS tracking device to find stolen equipment being stored inside a Tipton County barn. Police say thieves took trucks, trailers, earth-moving equipment and small items with an estimated total value of about $200,000. In Tipton County, about 30 miles north of Indianapolis, Sheriff's Deputy Denny Pearson says a Plainfield resident had put GPS trackers on several pieces of equipment because of recent thefts. No arrests had been made in the thefts. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...0709/1196/LOCAL
  22. I knew a guy, that knew a guy, that had to unload a trailer full of brand new toilets, fast!
  23. My bet is that they had a trailer stolen before.
