  1. Time, the same flaming liberal organization that voted Bush as Man of the Year in 2004 when his approval rating was about the same as Barack Obama's approval right now.
  2. Time magazine...liberal? Gallup...leftist? Again, First time I've heard that one. Both Time and Gallup are about as middle of the road as you can get.
  3. Many publications including Time have noted that Rasmussen has a right-leaning bias. Why else is it that Rasmussen is quoted almost exclusively by right wing media and they always seems to conflict with the other major polling organizations? Gallup is widely regarded as the most accurate and impartial polling group. Speaking of which, today's Gallup shows Obama's approval at 51% and his disapproval down 2% to 42%. http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx
  4. It's nice and all...but I can't help but wish that Ford had pushed the envelope a little further. The only part I don't really care for are the headlights, which are just too bland. The Explorer America concept was truly a bold vehicle.
  5. So tell me how 49% for the legislation as it were is a "solid majority of Americans are opposed to this legislation" (your words). Seems to me that the country is fairly equally divided on the issue, despite Fox News' insistence that the majority of Americans are outraged and do not want healthcare reform. Another poll from CNN shows 39% are for it as-is and 59% disapprove...but, out of that 59%, 20% disapprove because the legislation didn't go far enough (such as including a public option). That equates to 51% polled desiring some sort of Democratic health reform. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/03/22/cnn-poll-americans-dont-like-health-care-bill/?fbid=qBIBehxqrwm
  6. Wait 'til the deficit is reduced and the CBO's projections are realized in 10 years thanks to healthcare reform.
  7. On the contrary, 49% of Americans approve and 40% disapprove of the health care bill based on recent polling. http://www.gallup.com/poll/126929/Slim-Margin-Americans-Support-Healthcare-Bill-Passage.aspx And, Obama's approval rating is up 1% to 51% following passage of the health care bill. http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx
  8. This is the most honest conservative piece I have read in a long time. http://www.frumforum.com/waterloo
  9. The ability to vote more than once per day and the link being posted on social networking and auto enthusiast websites have completely skewed the results in this poll. The Fusion was leading early in the poll before it was picked up by Facebook fan pages and other sites.
  10. I saw a mid 90's Toyota Tercel on fire on the side of the highway a few months ago.
  11. Are they high? I have sat in both the Fusion and Camry, and there is no question that the Fusion has better materials inside. The Fusion dash is rubbery, while the Camry dash is just hard plastic. The Camry's plastic is so cheap that white scratch marks were showing up all over at the auto show. Once again, MT makes me question why I renewed my subscription.
  12. With today's technology and proper tires, modern RWD handles nearly as well as FWD in winter weather. I am a recent convert to RWD and have had no problems getting around this winter with nothing more than a couple Winterforce tires on the back. A $165 setback for a decent set of snow tires is not enough deterrant for the 8 months of superior handling that RWD offers.
  13. I stopped reading after this comment What defines "good"?
  14. It's amazing how backwards the car sales are in Japan compared to the US. Honda in 5th, but Suzuki in 3rd?
  15. That was one of their ads?? Wow.... Are you sure it wasn't a dealer ad or something? What vehicle was it for?
  16. I swear, GM has been working on a new Impala for what seems like a couple ice ages. I remember talk back in 2007 about a RWD Impala and how it would take cues from the '67. Then suddenly RWD was in doubt, but a new Impala would be out by 2010....then it was on a stretched Epsilon II, and would be out by 2012...now we find out they just started and we're looking at 2013 minimum? I swear, this car has been about as drawn out as a Guns N' Roses album.
  17. In Soviet Russia, spamfilter obliterate you.
  18. Did anyone else notice retail sales were down 5% over last January? That's a little disconcerting. Considering Toyota's woes at the moment and how poor auto sales were last January, I don't see how Ford could have sold less retail. Edit: D'oh. I went back and re-read...down from December. That makes more sense.
  19. When people say Cougar as a Focus coupe, I instantly think of a rebadged Focus with a waterfall grille. The Cougar name might as well stay dead if that is going to be the case. If they are going to bring back the Cougar name, it needs unique sheet metal. I'm picturing a high performance, higher-price sports coupe that would compete with the upcoming RWD Subaru Legacy and perhaps Hyundai Genesis. While I would prefer RWD, AWD or FWD wouldn't be bad as long as it is a modern sports coupe that lives up to the name. Anything less...Ford shouldn't even bother. Lynx isn't too terrible of a name to bring back, but Tracer needs to stay in the 80's IMO. When I hear the word Tracer, I think of cheesy synthesizers, neon grid backgrounds, and bad special effects.
  20. They are more concerned about the January sales tally than they are customers with Toyotas currently on the road.
  21. I did the same thing at the Midlands International Auto Show this weekend. The Acura spokespeople were within earshot and I said out loud standing by the RL "What is this, the Transformers edition?".... "Did they hire summer interns to design the front end?" One of them started glaring at me. :shades:
  22. I haven't owned many cars, but my 1990 Chevy Lumina Euro was the 'weakest' I owned, even though it wasn't as weak as some others mentioned here. The 3100 made 140 hp, 185 lb ft of torque, and could do 0-60 in 9.5 seconds. The torque really made it seem quick at low speeds, but it was gutless above 50 mph. I also had a 1994 Lumina Euro, but despite the same engine and same horsepower, it felt slightly quicker and more robust (also had 100,000 fewer miles when I bought it). Worst car I almost had - 1983 Dodge Aries. I was about to turn 16 and was looking at cars. This was shortly before my parents bought a new vehicle and I got the '90 as a hand-me-down. My uncle sold used cars and tried to give me a deal @ $1100 for an old lady driven Aries with bucket seats. I didn't want it at all, but my mom insisted I at least take it for a test drive..."you might like it!" It was gutless and couldn't move out of its own way. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I found out my parents were buying a new vehicle and I would get the Lumina.
  23. IMO, both Ford and GM would have survived had GM and Chrysler not received financial assistance. GM would have gone into bankruptcy right away and probably been gutted much more heavily than they were (i.e. Chevy and Cadillac are all that would have survived). GM would also be in much worse shape than it is today, but I believe it would have made it out of Chapter 11. For all the backlash the loans received, they helped make the transition smoother and have put GM in a much better position to succeed post-bankruptcy. Chrysler, on the other hand, was saved by the loans. I think Jeep would have been the only nameplate to survive after having been sold off by Cereberus.
