  1. So that's the plan. Nassar runs Ford down so bad it'll take 10 years to get out of it's slump. He's fired. And buys it back cheap. Ford needs to put a restraining order on Nassar. He couldn't handle PAG right the first time, I have no hope he'd do it right a second time.
  2. Here, Here! You've summed up my thoughts of late exactly.
  3. Sixcav, you're going off half cocked. Those prices are not the official MSRP. Those are a "rough" idea of pricing. I mean just look at the options. Stability Roll Control and Side Air Curtains are still "optional". Those were declared standard awhile ago already. They just haven't changed the page. So the best recomendation is to take a deep breath, and fuggetaboutit. The prices you spec out are what I would call worst possible scenerio. Given the current market competitivness, it'll be lower.
  4. The review of the MKZ in this same section claims "mid 20's" for overall driving. Also a link on Edmunds states the same thing for the Edge. So that means 22/27 to me. Somewhere around there. Maybe 21/28. I'm hoping for top 20's on the highway myself.
  5. Lucky bastard! I'd kill to test drive one right now. Ok, ok, that's an exageration... Thanks for the pictures. A few of those angles really answered some of my personal questions about room. How would you rate the ride vs other Ford cars? I'm more curious about quiet and comfort. I'm sure it'll be sporty enough for me coming from a Grand Marquis.
  6. "Lutz vowed in a recent e-mail that we will see "no more ugly or middle-of-the-road cars or trucks from GM. I won't have it."" "But let's be fair. Those weren't Lutz's cars." "I think GM has the right product plan," ..."They'll run right over Ford and maybe Chrysler (DCX), too." Umm, OK, let me see if I have this straight. New guy says old cars suck. New cars will be better. Isn't this what Mark Fields has been saying, and more importantly, already starting to do?? Then an analyst says the new cars will run over the current market. Yes, while that may be true, the current Ford lineup will be also changing quite a bit. So I think that's way over stated. Chrysler has nothing new that is even close to exciting. So the odds are better there than at Ford of being "run over". Acadia is almost too large, IMO. The other three models don't look very exciting. I'm assuming those are the current model they are showing. If not, GM's hope's will be dashed upon the rocks. Heck, even the Acadia needs some more pizzaz I think...
  7. SRC is one of the big reasons I'm looking at getting an Edge. Along with the standard side air canopy system, I think it's one of the safest vehicles out there. Now I just have to convince the wife! :-)
  8. Hmm, I just noticed the 17's are painted too. I missed that the first time. Personally, I like the 17's better too. I'll have to remember that come ordering time. I'm actually hoping the dealer will have one on hand when they start putting them on the lots. I think I'll be calling my dealer up and tell him what I want so he can order it. But my problem is the wife won't commit to one until she drives it. But with a car that is going to be really hot selling, I don't think they'll have any problems selling it if we dont' get it. So I guess I just need to call them.
  9. I'm planning on buying almost the same Edge, color and all. For me, if there is any doubt, I'd get the towing package. I won't be towing maybe once a year on the Edge. Small 14ft boat at that. But I want one for my bike rack. It plugs into the receiver. So that way you're not strapping anything to the vehicle. But to see the rims, do a "Build and Price" off the Ford site. When you get to the rims section, you can click on the More Info link and see each. Personally, I want the painted rims. I'd rather have 17" rims though. More sidewall and "should" be a bit softer ride. But I have painted rims on my Ford truck and those hold up to the road chips better than the standard rims. No fading of color or anything either. Chrome may chip or peel and be more noticable too. So I'm going for painted rims. http://www80.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/F...amp;sBrand=ford
  10. Yeah, I think the retro wagon thing is played out. The PTC was "cute" for the first year. But now with the HHR out also, Ford would look like a copy cat. I think the HHR looks out dated already. I'd much rather Ford brought over a couple of their "small" people movers from Europe. Some of those are nice sporty edgy lines that would work here.
  11. Hey, if Toyoda can call their Camry "all new" and nothing has changed, why are you banging on Ford? At least be consistent and say "everyone" shouldn't be doing it.
  12. Excuse my ignorance here, but how does one get in on the X-plan pricing I hear about. The wife and would like to pick up an Edge this fall as well. But we're looking for a loaded one in the Blazing Copper.
  13. Indications from previous threads are pretty much saying the Yammy is gone. Supposedly Ford would rather take their 3.5 V6 and super/turbo charge it with direct injection to get the similar HP figures. Maybe more.
  14. I think it really depends on what Ford is planning. Personally, I'd like to see Ford bring over the econo box Thai Ranger, including the diesel. It brings Ford back to the old days of compact mini trucks like the old Ford Courier. First vehicle I drove BTW. But then take the current US Ranger and replace it with the F100 based on the Explorer chasis. That new F100 would be similar size wise to the Dakota and Canyon. Put a economical base V6 in it and the 4.6 w/ 6 spd and I think Ford would have a bang up truck line.
  15. Why?? So Ford can teach Toyoda how to handle a recall properly??
  16. To get back on point after all this "garbage" garbage, I think there's a couple of points that need to be made. Ford does not sell enough cars to support all the manufacturing plants they currently have. The factories are kept at an operating percentage that is below effecient and profitable. Since there is no immediate likelyhood the Ford will magically jump production, plants will need to be closed and realigned. Does that mean workers will be layed off? Yes. Does that mean management needs to be reduced, YES. I'm sorry American workers are being laid off, but that's business. If they are not laid off, Ford goes bankrupt and a whole shitload of people are done. If the people being laid off don't like it, tough shit. You should have been buying American cars and getting your friends and family to be buying American. Ford has some hard decisons to make. Are they the same decisions others would make, probably not. Did Nasar and some of the other guys make mistakes early on who to lay off, Yes. But that doesn't change the present situation. I have more faith that Fields is getting Ford in the right direction than any other previous management. So, if you don't like what Ford is doing, you can go to some other maker. And I mean for a job or a car. Quit your bitchin' or STFU. Either way, I don't really care.
  17. I find the statement "redouble" efforts to be curious. When did they double them before? Why didn't that work? Why are they having to "re" double it? I thought we were supposed to be bowing to the almighty foreign companies that can do it better then the Americans. I'm just grinning ear to ear to read this stuff. So when they get into the same position as the Americans are/have been, it's just different somehow. Ha, serves tehm right.
  18. Umm, what are you talking about? I've seen pictures of those two cars side by side. They clearly didn't change the greenhouse. Shoot, outside of some front/rear minor changes, nothing changed on the outside. Ok, ok, they changed the rims. Big hairy deal. If American cars can get lambasted for not updating, it's hypocrisy if it doesn't happen the other direction.
  19. I had to Google up those two Sentinal and Cont. concept cars. I think the Cont. would make a much better looking Lincoln. The Sentinal for some reason just had too many sharp edges. Didn't do anything for me. Now the Conny looked damn good.
  20. I did some Google searching and here's what I found. I did find some old links showing the Zephr getting the 3.5 and listing it as 250HP. Mostly links like that. I was looking for the Ford announcement and I couldn't find that anywhere. But what I did find is almost as good from Detriot News comparing it to ther automakers mid 3liter V6's and stating the bump from 250 to 265 HP. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../604120342/1148 What I also found was some links stating the Lincoln Mkx AWD having "mid twenties" for fuel mileage. I'm hoping the FWD will have 2 points better like the 500 FW vs AW does. So with any luck, the FWD Edge shoudl be the upper 20's minimum.
  21. Ford did come out with an official announcment of the 265HP. I think it was early this year. It came out about the same time as the announcement that Toyoda and some other manufacturers HP numbers were inflated.
  22. I was seriously looking at picking up a Ridgline to replace my '89 F150 standard cab. I tow a Coleman pop up camper. Dry weight is 2500. So I suppose fully loaded is about 3500. After I saw that tow rating when it was officially released, I quit looking. And that was even before it was released. I have a 2003 SCrew with th 5.4 and it tows it like it wasn't even there. God am I glad I didn't pick up the Fudgeline. Someone slap me for even thinking of not getting a Ford! Now where the hell is my Edge! I'm still waiting. Arrgh!
  23. Perfect timing! I'm planning on buying an Edge this fall. :cheerleader: :happy feet:
  24. Hmm, that's funny. I've always thought the look of the Edge was more car-like than the Freestyle and not very SUV like. To me, it's more like a wagon than a SUV. But a modern good looking one. Hey, I don't care. I still think it looks better than the Freestyle. Freestyle is just too plain and old fashioned wagon looking, and not in a good way.
