  1. W-a-y off topic Smelling farts could be the best thing you do today Possible Obamacare preventative treatment?
  2. Pluses and minuses. There's more in the minus column, imo.
  3. Or it will be the way fuel was rationed during WWII. Those of privilege or power will get the magic "X" and the rest will be "A" cars.
  4. How many situations can one think of that doesn't afford a 30-minute advance time?
  5. If you're familiar with the mass migration of the people of West Virginia, Ohio, VA and NC to Myrtle Beach every summer (esp Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day), you can imagine the hole it would leave in such a community property as shared cars.
  6. Demand for (the use of) cars is dependent on time of day. Unless you're going to have a large number of empty cars continuously moving all the time, then they'll have to "park" somewhere. I'd say personal ownership of cars is extremely efficient. They're used when they're needed, and not when they aren't.
  7. I may not be old enough to remember a time without the minimum wage, but I have serious doubts it was ever a middle class wage. As we have moved from agrarian, to industrial, to post-industrial it is inevitable that the characteristics of Middle Class have changed. We have not (unfortunately) kept our educational system in line with that. This (I assume) we can agree on.
  8. Does Caterpillar operate in a vacuum, or is Cat is an international company, competing with every other company in the world making high-level construction equipment? In order to compete, Caterpillar must operate as efficiently as possible. There are many factors that go into this decision--taxes and wage costs are part of it. The higher that either go dictates the higher the price they must charge for their product, OR the lower other costs must sink to make up for the deficit. Do you agree? If not, what is the economic rationale that says that (all other things being equal) a company remains viable by charging more for their product than their competitors in the marketplace? My grandchildren will be just fine, thanks. I don't intend to leave my children empty-handed.
  9. What is the/your definition of "Middle Class"? What I'm asking is......what should (in your opinion) define the "Middle Class"? Is it an income, a skill set, a lifestyle, or some combination of all?
  10. As stated above, I thought Ford had a (the?) patent on the cap-less fuel filler. However, I was not aware that anyone (non-FOMOCO) had such a feature. Is Ford licensing it, or do they just own a very specific patent on their particular design? I've got used to it on my F-150. It's convenient, although the first time I have to clear debris from underneath the fuel door, I know I'll worry about contamination. (I had a dirt dauber nest inside the fuel door on my old Ranger once)
  11. Can anyone explain, what does this even mean? It's a neat-o catchphrase, but exactly what bottom are we supposed to be reaching? Noone I know, even the most diehard capitalist, is trying to reach a bottom of anything.
  12. According to Ed, I don't "get it" either. (See the GDP thread) Perhaps that's the new catch phrase now? "You just don't get it" Wouldn't seem to have much attraction to those who disagree.
  13. Actually, I "get it" quite well. "Income disparity" will never.....repeat---NEVER......get better. Reason? Zero never moves, and you could double the salary (or taxes) of everyone in the country, and income disparity only gets worse. We live in a society where stupid (or just plain ignorant) people are easily manipulated. I don't worry about stability OR prosperity of society at all. The simplest reason is the type of persons the author is trying to describe would have trouble purchasing a pitchfork at a Home Depot without the price tag telling them what it is. That pretty much insures MY prosperity. And the type of people who depend on that ignorance (to remain in power) require the glue of perpetual outrage for stability. Income disparity, Hobby Lobby, gay marriage, Obamacare, illegal immigrants......etc.....etc.....etc. I may have my political issues, but I never let any get in my way.
  14. Perhaps we could look at the reasons that direct foreign investment in France has dropped by 94% in the last decade and go from there?
  15. If I owe someone an apology for working hard and being moderately successful, OR if I am supposed to envy the Amazon guy, I want to know why.
  16. Well, you can't do this with an android. (no, I'm not saying RJ would do this, but it is funny)
  17. While I don't doubt Ford's product improvements contributing to the loyalty gains, I suspect there is a measurable number of (American car) buyers who would have looked at GM but didn't due to the bailouts.
  18. Short of some hardware glitch, I don't know anyone who's had a problem with Android, much less security with Android. Most peoples' security snafus occur when they lay their phone down, and someone else grabs it, but that's with any device. Hell, a large number of people (including those on iOS) don't bother to enter a lock screen combination, or use something so rudimentary that security is thrown out the window. The relative "lack" of android OS-level security compared to iOS ignores the fact that the numbers of infections we're talking about (in this country) are pretty minuscule. True, go to some Chinese Google Play-clone, and all bets are off. But, it's that lack of absolute control that attracts me to android in the first place.
  19. So go Nexus or soon-to-be Android Silver. My razr maxx is not being updated past 4.1. Never had a problem, even though I'm rooted.
  20. Given that Lois' were lost 10 days after the initial inquiry into the targeting of conservative groups, no.
  21. At some point, with increasing power output, I imagine the strength of the materials becomes an issue, but I guess we must have a way to go.
  22. If the Chevy guy I encountered at a stoplight recently is any indication, the EB is likely making an impact.
  23. Disagree. There is no evidence that (at the time) the name was intended as a slur. Regardless, for me this is about protecting property rights, as well as speech. Both trump the "right not to be offended".
