My thinking is multi-faceted but one might be, when Ford drops support, is there a reason for any Android/iOS developer to continue to produce (or support) "Sync-enabled" apps? I did see this, today. So, there's hope. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3011596/car-tech/ford-software-update-puts-a-siri-button-in-millions-of-cars.html

I'm not sure what that solution for replacement would be, but I have no doubt that Ford will ultimately have to drop support for Sync. I'm probably one of the few willing to spend the cash to get an OEM head unit to replace the existing one. Love to see them offer a replacement that would allow Android Auto or something similar. I'm sure I haven't seen all of the aftermarket offerings, but most look so jury-rigged it really brings the interior down. At least they've gone away from those oval radios.

I'm am trying to be proactive about the (anticipated) ELD mandate. Our fleet consists of primarily F350s towing multi-axle trailers, and we have to comply with hours-of-service rules, including handwritten logbooks. I haven't seen there will be any sort of exemption for these smaller trucks, and everything I've read about e-log solutions is directed to the big trucks. Does anyone have experience with integrating an ELD into these smaller (but still big enough) trucks?

Is there a TSB on when the IC lights remain on? I saw this on my truck when it failed to start the third time. Just didn't want to go back to the dealer for them to say they couldn't find anything wrong, again. Also, regarding the Battery Management System. I think I've read the system will reset itself if the truck is allowed to sit for 8 hours undisturbed. If incorrect, I'm assuming only a dealer can do this? (I'd expect your average AutoZone clerk wouldn't be aware of it at all)

A little over 40 degrees this morning. Started like a champ. Gonna try going to go by an Autozone after work, unless I have (to help my 8th grader with) homework.

I have the column shifter. Don't recall seeing a warning of any kind about shifting to park.

I've seen references to a single plug near the tailgate causing common parasitic losses when water infiltrates, but I've not experienced the problem during wet weather, nor had I been driving in wet weather prior to parking the truck. I'd read about a "Battery Control Module" causing problems when it doesn't read/remember the correct state of charge of the battery, but I have NO idea what that means or what the ramifications could/would be.

I've Googled this, and I hadn't seen an exact duplicate of my truck's symptoms, so here goes. Since I got the truck new in August, 2013, my truck has failed to start 3 times. The first time was this past Spring (~72 F) just before my afternoon commute. The dome lights came on and were weak, and the truck wouldn't start. After a jump, I took it to dealer, and they said nothing was wrong--suggested my 25 minute commute wasn't driving it enough to keep battery charged. (Sounds like bullshit to me) The next time was this past Summer, at night. Truck had sat from Monday 'til Saturday at airport. Nothing would work prior to jump, so battery pretty much discharged. This morning it was 39 F. Remote unlock didn't work, but on approach I noticed the instrument cluster was lit (dome lights didn't come on when opening door). I don't know if this is a symptom of the problem, or if it's a symptom of a dying battery. (chicken or egg) In all cases, after jump starting the truck, you'd never know anything had happened. Truck runs great, and doesn't fail to start normally until.......?. If it helps the truck is a 2013 F150 EB SuperCrew. Sync, but no MFT. Assembled in January, 2013 in Detroit. I leave the lights on the Automatic setting, but I know I've never left a dome light on or the door ajar, and I've always turned the heat/AC off before I turn the truck off. (a habit) I've considered replacing the battery, but the dealer said it was fine (but I'm starting to assume they didn't want to do it under warranty) Thoughts or insights?

DONALD TRUMP HAS *NOT* CHANGED FORD PLANS
RangerM replied to kyle's topic in Lounge: Off Topic Discussion
Whomever wins the election next year, he/she will not rule by edict. It will require cooperation. -
Based on your "specs", you're beyond need and have entered the realm of want. Get what you want; cost be damned.

Not sure why the OP would cross-shop the Colorado and the F150 SuperCrew. I understand that Ford doesn't sell a direct Colorado competitor, but the trucks themselves seem like two different classes. I haven't sat in one, but I've read others' opinion that the Colorado is "big on the outside, and small on the inside". If true, that would make the two vehicles even more dissimilar. The SuperCrew is positively cavernous on the inside, especially the rear seat.

Can't speak for what you're "building", but certain trims may not offer all engines. I originally looked into an STX before I got my 2013, but the Ecoboost was not an option--only the base V6 and the V8. I wound up with an XLT with the EB. Don't have anything against the V8, just haul air most of the time, but since I have the 3.15 rear I figured I could get better mpg with the EB.

FCA concedes on Tier 2 without busting budget
RangerM replied to jpd80's topic in Competing Products
My best guess is there's a recession coming in the next two years. So yes, profit sharing will be lower, if it exists at all. If I'd been the UAW, I would've fought more for product than wages. Putting all your eggs in a product (Ram trucks) that heavily depends on an expanding economy and relatively low energy prices seems very shortsighted to me. -
Report: All but 2 Buick models will be built in China after 2016
RangerM replied to silvrsvt's topic in Competing Products
I know Buick is popular in China, but why? Is it because it's tailored to Chinese tastes, or does it carry a certain cache with the Chinese market because it's American (read: foreign). I'd say that's why Mercedes was initially popular here. The cars were built well, but were not that much more reliable than comparable American iron. But, a Mercedes in the driveway was a good way to let your neighbor know you could afford more than he. -
EcoBoost a really good marketing scheme

I'd be curious if VW ever acknowledged the Bosch memo in writing; and who signed it. -
It's a tenet held by some denominations. Can't name them off the top of my head, since (for me) it's not worth remembering. I rarely sidestep a conversation on faith. It's how it's built.

Taurus and Transit tail/running lights
RangerM replied to lfeg's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I leave my lights in Auto mode. ('13 F150) It works very well; only turning it off if I'm idling. I'm assuming those vehicles have a similar feature?
