  1. Right now, I would feel safer in a CHINESE car ( or any other car) than FORD.
  2. This is what is happening with FORD. The Lexus airbag failure if it is in fact a failure ( it has to be proven first) is nothing compared to this. If FORD fails to address this quickly they are finished. In the early morning hours of May 2, 2005 an Iowa couple woke to the smell of smoke coming from her pickup truck in flames parked inside their attached garage of their house. While the Mr. Mohlis went to put out the fire that was coming from under the hood of their Ford F150, the garage and house became engulfed in flames. Before Mrs Mohlis could escape, she was overcome by smoke and died from smoke inhalation. The Mr. Mohlis attempted to rescue his wife from the burning house, but his attempts were unsuccessful. He was later found by fire personnel outside the residence suffering from smoke inhalation, cuts and bruises. http://www.fordfires.com/ KISSIMMEE, Florida (CNN) -- Early this year, Laura Hernandez nudged her husband, Nestor Oyola, as he slept in their Kissimmee home and asked him to put the Ford Expedition he had bought her the day before into the garage. She did not want to risk leaving it on the street, where it might be vandalized. "That was my dream, to have a Ford Expedition," she recalled to CNN about the $22,000 Eddie Bauer 2001 model SUV -- green with gold trim and leather seats. Oyola moved the Expedition and they went to sleep. After years of sharing a single car, the couple -- who moved five years ago to the United States from Puerto Rico -- were finally living the American dream: They owned two vehicles and their home. At 5 the next morning, half an hour after her husband had driven his SUV to work, Hernandez was awakened by barking from Chakuil, their Chihuahua mix. "He saved our lives," said Hernandez, who smelled smoke and roused her 15-year-old daughter, Rotsenmary. They had time to grab only the dog and their pet birds before flames spread from the garage and engulfed the house. Rotsenmary suffered a second-degree burn to her left leg; the charred remains of their 6-month-old cat -- Beethoven -- were found in a corner; the vehicle, the house and its contents were a total loss. A fire investigator, hired by their auto insurance company, said the blaze was caused by a cruise-control deactivation switch in the SUV -- a type of switch that Ford installed in millions of its vehicles from 1992 until 2003. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/16/for...les/index.html My mother and father lost their home and many of their dreams when their 1990 Crown Victoria caught fire in their garage and destroyed their home. My dad, Bill, had just finished lunch and had gone back to work. My mother, Doris, was loading the washing machine in their McGregor, Texas home, when she heard popping sounds coming from the direction of their garage. She put the clothes down and rushed to the kitchen. What she saw would change their lives. Smoke was pouring under the door between the garage and the kitchen and rapidly filling the house. The fire that started in the garage would eventually destroy their house and many of their dreams. It was their home for 30 years. Dad built it. I grew up there. We had celebrated many a birthday and holiday there. Mom and Dad were about to start their retirement years in comfort and security there. That's all gone now. In March, Dad and a few friends spent a week or so, cleaning up what was left. My heart broke each time I saw the look on his face when he returned in the evenings. There's an empty lot now in the neighborhood where they used to live. Mom and Dad are living with me until they can get their lives back together. All of our lives have changed as a result of this. The insurance company's fire investigator said that the fire started in the 1990 Ford LTD Crown Victoria that Mom inherited from my grandfather. It had been in the garage for at least four hours with the engine off. Can you imagine how angry I was to learn that Mom's car had been recalled and Ford never told her? My Dad even took it to the Ford Dealer for service and they didn't say anything. I'll bet you'll be as shocked as I was to learn that almost half of the 7.9 million cars that Ford recalled in 1996 because they catch fire, are still on the road and not fixed! And Ford and the government aren't doing anything about it. http://www.safetyforum.com/fordfires/buf.html On October 22, 2004 I bought a 2003 Ford Taurus from Sunbelt Ford. I drove it about 70 miles over the week-end. On October 25, 2004 I drove it to work which is about a 5-minute drive. My windshield was fogged over so I turned on the defogger. As I turned into the school parking lot I noticed a strange smell but attributed it to the foggy air. I got to school about 7:15 and about 7:40 the secretary announced to whoever owned a Ford Taurus to go to your car. I ran out and the car was smoking. I went and called the dealership and told them that they needed to come to the school. I ran back out and the car was in flames. The fire department was called and they put the fire out. I was beside myself with grief. The school nurse and another teacher took me to lay down in the nurses' station. As I was given a ride home the tow truck was just arriving to pick up the car. About 11:00 my daughter came to help me sort things out. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:_-K3Oh...;gl=us&stri p=1 And if that's not enough, check out all the pics of different Fords at this site: http://www.rvappraisals.com/ford-fires.htm This is way too easy. Ford should have recalled every single vehicle with these switches five years ago.
  3. Why would pointing out the truth be construed as "Negative Nancy"? FORD (and GM to a lesser extent ) is selling their arms and legs just to remain afloat. Eventually they will run out of assests to sell and what happens then ? The UAW will only give up so much in terms of wages and benefits. The fact of the matter is FORD and the other domestic needs to sell desirable cars ( and not just gas guzzling trucks and SUVs) at a profit in North America. You cannot cut production indefinitely.
  4. GM could sell a billion cars tomorrow and still go bankrupt. If you ain't making money you will go bankrupt sooner or later. I dont wish either GM or FORD to fold but eventually they will need to show profit on a cosistent basis like TOYOTA or HONDA otherwise they are toast.
  5. I think FORD and GM will go bankrupt long before TOYOTA. FORD is almost there and GM isnt that far behind.
  6. I think FORD fans get a collective orgasm everytime an import crashes. Even GM fans have more decency than this.
  7. I know it sucks to be a Ford fan right now. But don't take it out on import owners. I sense FORD fans lack a level of maturity that is evident in other automotive forums. Can't win an argument resort to name calling. But then again considering that Ford will soon be smaller than Hyuandai and KIA, I can understand your misplaced hostility. Don't worry just go on Prozac. That should help
  8. Please do, I didn't go to Harvard. I am just an import driving douchebag.
  9. It is hard to believe that someone with your intellectual capacity has a relative that got accepted into Harvard that drives a lifted F150. Me think you are lying. It seems like all the high school dropout and douchebags that drive Toyota has a fatter wallet than the so called intelligent people who drive Ford. Maybe that is why Toyota is the biggest and most profitable carmaker in the world and little Billy Ford is selling an arm and a leg just to keep Ford aflot. Btw, most of the trailer trash in my city drive domestic while most of the rich drives Lexus, MB, Audi, BMW and Acuras.
  10. First of all, most cars today are pretty well put together no matter what the brand is. Second, people keep their cars for a lot longer than 90 days. A lot of cars that did well in the JD Powers initial quality study didnt fare nearly as well in the long term. A case in point is the Hyundai Sonata. All I am saying is the FORD's celebration is kinda premature. If the FUSION, Milan etc can hold up as well as the Camry and Accord 5 to 7 years down the road then I would start celebrating.
  11. JD Powers is absoulety BS. It seems every year they have a new "winner" in their IQS. I bet next year it won't be FORD. I wouldn't use the JDP survey as a bragging rights.
  12. Other than GM, no other company comes close to matching Toyota's global sales number. I don't see anyone displacing Toyota anytime soon. Heck, FORD can't even outsell Toyota on its home turf.
  13. You forgot the RX and the LS. In fact the only two Lexus that doesnt sell well are the GS and SC. Otherwise they have a solid lineup.
  14. Most Americans are not going to accept your argument that a Mexican built Fusion is more American than an American built Tundra. The fact is FORD and GM are closing plants and laying off workers while Toyota and Honda are doing the opposite. This phony patrioitism BS to convince people to buy FORD or GM will not work. They tried that in the 80s and it didnt work back then and it certainly won't work now. The way you gain marketshare is by building class leading product.
  15. Wait a second; you think todays trucks are ugly and that 40 year old beater is a beauty queen. Your definition of pretty is very weird to say the least. I bet you think Rosanne is prettier than Cindy Crawford.
  16. Wow I thought the RAV4 with its optional V6 would easily outsell the CRV. Guess I was wrong. I agree the CRV is one ugly SUV.
  17. In real world the performance gap between a 550 HP MUSTANG and a 420 HP M3 would be negligible. The MUSTANG would probably weigh at least 200 to 400 lbs more. The current Shelby GT500 cannot even keep up with a base C6 Corvette which has a hundred less horspower not to mention the Mustang's handling is about as good as an oil tanker
  18. Hey Derek; i am sitting in front of my computer for last 20 minutes trying to figure out what your post means. :reading:
  19. OH Cmon' man. This is a FORD fansite. You are obviously a Toyota fan and there is nothing wrong with that . So there will be a pro Ford bias here and that is to be expected. As for the four star frontal rating, that is not really that much of a deal. Four out of Five is still a decent rating in my opinion. I am willing to withohold my judgment unitl IHS comes up with result for it off center collision. That is a much more meaningful gauge of a vehicle's safety in a real world collision. As for comparing FORD to the sinking Titanic, do you really want FORD to go bankrupt or any domestic automaker ? Because you know what, if that really happens it is gonna effect you in more ways than you think. Just think about that. Auto manufacturing is a pillar of the strenght of the US economy. If that goes under, the US economy could face another great depression. Be careful what you wish for.
  20. Does it really matter if the Sienna got recalled or not ? It still gets better ratings then the Windstar, Freestar Duo. People still think the Sienna is the better van compare to the domestic alternatives. The fact that Ford is pulling out of the minivan market and GM will soon follow them as well leaving Chrysler as the only domestic minivan maker is a testament to the fact.
  21. Is it just me or are you feeling the same? There are way too many Toyota commercials on TV and Radio. Toyota is really desperate wanting to be No. 1. Toyota will be No.1 not because they are desperate to be No.1. It is because the morons who run the domestic auto industry ( and yes that includes Billy Ford ) pretty much handed them over the title with their ineptitude and incompetence. In some respect they are already No.1 where it matters the most (aka largest by market value, largest profit margin etc). Toppling GM this year in terms of overall sales will just be icing on the cake. And the reason we see more and more Toyota commercial is because they are awash in cash that they can spend for advertising.
  22. Maybe the fact that Ford offers the lamest engine in this class probably has more to do with than Kool Aid.
  23. Our Toy dealer is getting 5 next week. The salesperson told me all five of them has been taken and all of them comes with the 5.7 Liter engine. He also told me Toyota will have no problem selling 200K Tundra.
  24. Is FORD and GM competing with each other as to who sucks more ? Oh well at least Chrysler is doing a little better. I see Toyota as usual is doing great. If this trend continues for much longer, both GM and Ford will be looking at CHAPTER 11.
