They are thirsty for their size though. I have a 3v in a Mustang and it has been as reliable as the sun coming up in the east everyday. I remember like yesterday when they came out in the 96 Mustangs and the Mustang community screamed bloody murder and I was one of them! I wanted no part of them. They evolved and by I think 1999 they finally made decent power with the PI heads. I had an 03 Mustang Mach 1 powered by the 4V 4.6 and while the car (Sn95) was not all that hot the engine was a real screamer for its day and would match LS1's tit for tat. My 06 is a much better overall car but its no match for the 03 Mach 1 in a drag race. Still, is respectable and I dont care all that much about quarter mile times these days. Then, there was the terminator. What a hot rod that was back in 2003. There were a lot of versions of this engine. I just think of all of the Crown Vic Police cars and cabs powered by this engine. You still see them everywhere. Im not sure it was the best thing when it came out but Ford did a pretty good job with the evolution of it.

Ecoboost sounds like it belongs in a 74 Mustang II.

It may fit the rest of the brand but the closest thing Ford has to being a stand alone brand is the Mustang and "Eco" and "Mustang" dont go together. It might be the top dog in the F series but its playing second fiddle in the Mustang.

GM is on a roll these days. How many cars do they have recalled at the moment? Its going to get expensive for a while.

And Ford let a guy named Chase Elliott get away from them. He is going to haunt Ford for a decade or two. 7 nationwide races with 6 top tens and 2 wins and just turned 18. Another thing on the expansion of medicaid. (expansion of the welfare state). This money runs out in 3 years to the states. Then what? My idiot governor took the bait but he will be out of office when it comes time to pay up from the state tax payers. This administration is so desperate for some good news about Obamacare that they will do anything and hope and pray the low information voters dont catch on.

How many have actually paid up? How many are on medicaid? What is the mix of young to old? How many are subsidized by the tax payers? How many of the 6 million canceled policies signed up on Obamacare? These are resonable questions that the white house and BHO dont want us to know. They know I garantee you but if it does not behove them politically they will not release this information. If it was such a sucess Jay Carney would be screaming these numbers at the top of his lungs. Barack Hussein Obama care is failing mathmatically I garantee you. This is another lets run the clock out and hope it works over time situation and keep the public in the dark about how we are blowing money left and right for nothing.

I maintain that this about about advertising "best in class" with the wonderful "ecoboost technology" and little to do about the take rate or real world results. I can just see the average guy showing up at the dealership saying how many cylinders did you say it had again? It might be a great thing across the pond but it wont fly here in the US. Ford already had the engine so why not toss it in there for publicity benifits. This so reminds me of the SFE pickups a few years back. A total waste but it made for good adds. I cant wait to see the upcharge and what the benifits are and do the math on the payback.

It wont sell because of the manual only. But that is not the point. This is a gimmick by Ford for advertising best in class blah blah blah. They have over reached and the I3 will be a slug in the Focus and they know it. I am ok with it in a Fiesta and its probably worth a hard look if you wanted one of them. Going to be interesting to see how they can charge more money for less power.
