Why the Obama Plan is working
taxman100 replied to mustang84isu's topic in Lounge: Off Topic Discussion
In a nutshell, Obama's economic plan is to have the Federal Reserve print a lot of paper money, and give it to people to spend. The rally in the stock market has been on historically very light volume. There is not a lot of conviction from the big money that the government spending recovery is going to stick. -
A strippo Taurus - does anyone seriously think it will be anything else? Ford is all about globalizing their products, so of course it will be the Taurus. There are two guys in my neighborhood who have new Taurus - both of them got them as fleet cars from their employer. Fleets and police - the future of the Taurus.

Ditto for me. As much as I love my Grand Marquis, I'd buy a new one if it was updated. Since Ford has basically ignored it for over a decade and has decided to kill it off, I'll just keep the one I have until 200,000 miles, and then buy a used later model Grand Marquis or Town Car to replace it. There is a small chance I might order a new 2011 Grand Marquis since it is the last model year, and then spend some money on engine upgrades, but unlikely. Other than that,

Build and Price is up for Fiesta
taxman100 replied to BrewfanGRB's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
To get a Fiesta equipped as most people want - power windows, heated mirrors, automatic, etc. I would have to get the SE without any of the gimmick-laden packages on the sedan - it would list around $17,000 for the sedan, and $17,900 for the hatch. I would think $15,000 would be more in the ballpark if I really wanted to spend the money on a car like this. I know people say it has a lot of extras on it, but I'm not interested in all of those extras. I also find the interior and exterior of newer cars to be pretty ugly. It's not just a Fiesta thing - most cars are that way. My rule of thumb is a car has to last 10,000 miles for every $1,000 of the purchase price. We are less than six months from that point with the Toyota, and the Mercury is about 2-3 years away. Would I want to drive a Fiesta for 170,000 miles? Since the transmission has no drain plug, nor a fill tube, I guess Ford doesn't expect me to either. -
The stages of decline in any empire: 1. Moral Decay - clearly past that stage 2. Economic Decay - clearly currently in that stage and moving through that rapidly. 3. Military Decay - cannot afford to maintain military forces, nor do enough citizens desire to sacrifice to serve the state - a ramification of moral decay. 4. Subjugation/Destruction 5. Rebirth or slavery I have two young sons, and my family has a tradition of serving in the Marine Corps - both my Father and I. As a Christian, in the past there was no conflict with serving God and serving the State. I no longer think that is the case, so I cannot recommend military service to my sons.

Have you ever seen some of the other minority owners in the NFL? Assorted "entertainers" that are dumb as a rock, or slutty, or kooky liberal conspiracy theorists. The rationale behind the NFL not supporting his bid shows the NFL is just another big business courting favor with the socialists in Washington. Rush is being denied this bid because of his political views, plain and simple. Not that it bothers me - the NFL is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. I feel my I.Q. go down if I waste any of my time watching it.

Ford blows it again, giving away a market they literally owned. First they give away the large car civilian market, and now the police and livery market. I can only speak for myself, but if the choice was a $28,000 RWD Caprice, and a $28,000 FWD Taurus, the Caprice wins every time.

More of what's being taught in our schools
taxman100 replied to No_Fear's topic in Lounge: Off Topic Discussion
If you really love your children, you would never let them get anywhere close to a government school for a so called "education". It also puts the mortal soul of you children at risk exposing them to the immoral values pushed by the government schools. Private school, parochial school, homeschool, etc. are all a thousand times better if you care anything at all about your children learning to think, reason, or use logic. -
Mercury is going downmarket as Lincoln goes downmarket. When Mercury stopped being marketed to men, it started dying. When the Grand Marquis dies, there is no reason to keep Mercury around. The Grand Marquis is the only real Mercury left from the days when owning one meant something more than pretty, feminine stitching on the seats.

Obama in missile shield overhaul
taxman100 replied to Ford Jellymoulds's topic in Lounge: Off Topic Discussion
Who knew Obama and Pat Buchanan have anything in common? Both seem to support the policy idea of not intruding into Russia's sphere of influence. Whether that means Poland, Eastern Europe, Urkraine, Georgia, etc. go off on a different course that is not so pro-American is yet to be seen. -
Yeah, it will be great to walk into a showroom in a few years and find nothing but overpriced little crackerbox cars. I don't see automobile sales returning to that of a few years ago simply because automakers will not be able to sell what people want to drive. People will buy when they absolutely have to, but not before.

Kanye West: #1 Reason Why People Still Use the N Word
taxman100 replied to Versa-Tech's topic in Lounge: Off Topic Discussion
I don't have a friggin clue who this guy is, but he must be indicative of modern pop music, since the story has gotten so much play. First this clown, and the way Serena Williams likes to act in public, gives me little doubt society is crumbling. Sadly, Tiger Woods is a rarity in popular culture today. -
With the coming government mandates that will lead to only little cars being available for the unwashed masses, I think your prognostication sounds reasonable. All the more reason to buy what you want very soon, as they will be going away - replaced by more expensive, less capable products.

Honda unveils 2010 Accord Crosstour

It's pretty bad - they should have just made a practical Accord wagon and called it a day. -
Much Ado About Another Do-Over
taxman100 replied to armadamaster's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Since irregardless, the Panther is being killed, I wish Ford luck with the Taurus. I think they are going to need it. I'd never buy a Taurus, but I might order one more Grand Marquis in 2011. The problem is it is hard to justify replacing a Panther with only 130,000 miles on it - that is about 6-7 years too early. The mindset of business - planned obsolescense. That is why Ford has been working on dumping the Panther for the last decade - it doesn't fit the modern business model. -
Greenies caught in another lie
taxman100 replied to sprinter's topic in Lounge: Off Topic Discussion
I've noticed the same thing as well - they just don't seem as bright. I've also noticed they don't last as long as they claim - I've replaced some that I know were in the fixture only a year or two. -
Edward Kennedy Dead at 77
taxman100 replied to Mark B. Morrow's topic in Lounge: Off Topic Discussion
That's right - murder of the innocent is none of your business. Besides, that is not as important as who is winning "American Idol". Artificial birth control is evil - maybe the intent is different, but for many types, the result is the same. -
It will be a free-for-all. Ford currently has 85% of the market - they will be lucky to keep a third of it after this. They will also lose most of the taxi and livery market as well. They have already given up most of the retail large car market - considering how many they sold in that market 10-15 years ago compared to today. Impala's will be used by larger cities, the Charger by rural forces, and the Tahoe will be in the mix as well. All of them, and whatever Ford pulls out of a hat, are/still will be inferior to the Panther. Ford's decision to internationalize every product worldwide has consequences, and this square peg in a round hole approach to large cars is no different. I love large American sedans - too bad no one will sell one after 2011. That means I'll either drive used Grand Marquis/Town Car for the next 15 years, or buy whatever is on sale when I'm in the market. Make and model becomes meaningless when everything is pretty much the same.

Ford to Police - pay more and get less. Police to Ford - Ford is out.
